The integrated roof spoiler and the Airpanel in the front bumper are designed to reduce drag at low speeds. At higher speeds, the spoiler pops up to create more downforce, while the Airpanel opens up to provide more cooling.

Axial motors

The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will be built on the same platform as the AMG.EA platform as the 4-door GT. While the base model uses two synchronous motors (front and rear), the most powerful versions use a setup with three axial-flux motors with integrated planetary gears (one in the front, two in the rear).

These motors, based on technology from British Mercedes-owned specialist Yasa, are both compact and very powerful. The technology might later be used in more ‘modest’ Mercedes models. A similar three-axial motor setup is already used in the AMG CLA 45 4Matic+, but at 680 hp, it can hardly be called ‘modest’.

All versions of the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV are primarily rear-wheel-drive, with one motor on the base version’s rear axle and two on the powerful models. The front motor is only used when extra grip or power is needed.

Up to 1.169 hp

The SUV will be available in three power versions. The base version is the ‘53’ model, with up to 400 kW (544 hp), 800 Nm and a 0-100 kph figure of 4.2 seconds. The ‘55’ has up to 600 kW (816 hp) and 1,860 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 time of 3.1 seconds.

The top version is the ‘63’ with up to 860 kW (1.169 hp), 2.000 Nm and a 0-100 kph sprint in 2.5 seconds. With these figures, Mercedes-AMG clearly targets the electric Porsche Cayenne. The Cayenne Turbo Electric, the most powerful version, delivers up to 850 kW and has a similar sprint time.

Apart from the headlining peak power of the two most powerful versions, their continuous output is equally impressive: 530 kW.

Up to 700 km and 710 kW DC charging

The 800V NCM battery pack uses directly cooled cylindrical cells. It has a capacity of 106 kWh (using 18 modules, standard on all versions) or 128 kWh (using 22 modules, optional on the ‘55’ and ‘63’). The latter gives the SUV a range of up to 700 km.

The maximum DC charging power is higher in the SUV than in the 4-door model, at 600 kW. With a maximum of 710 kW, the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV can charge from 10 to 80% in only 11 minutes at a charger with the appropriate power level. 10 minutes gives an extra 450 km of range.

The car’s central intelligent cooling hub oversees the cooling process of all components, both during driving and charging. This should improve the overall cooling efficiency, ensuring maximum performance in all conditions.

Driving dynamics

The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV’s sporty ambitions don’t end at its performance figures. A host of features also have to be optimized for handling and driving dynamics.
