La technologie est pass\u00e9e du stade de la d\u00e9couverte en laboratoire \u00e0 celui du produit industriel.<\/p>\n<p>L'encre des annonces de la journ\u00e9e technologique du CATL \u00e9tait \u00e0 peine s\u00e8che. La plus grande batterie du monde a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que sa cellule sodium-ion Naxtra entrerait en production de masse d'ici \u00e0 la fin de 2026. Cette d\u00e9claration concernait les voitures et faisait suite au salon de l'automobile de P\u00e9kin. Moins d'une semaine plus tard, l'entreprise d\u00e9montre d\u00e9j\u00e0 comment elle peut porter la technologie sodium-ion \u00e0 des niveaux sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent.<\/p>\n<h4>Le moment du bassin versant<\/h4>\n<p>CATL a sign\u00e9 un accord de coop\u00e9ration strat\u00e9gique de trois ans avec Beijing HyperStrong Technology, qui pr\u00e9voit la livraison de 60 GWh de batteries sodium-ion pour des applications de stockage d'\u00e9nergie.<\/p>\n<p>Aucun fabricant de batteries sodium-ion ne s'est jamais approch\u00e9 d'une commande commerciale de cette ampleur. Le fait que le fabricant de batteries n'ait exp\u00e9di\u00e9 que le double de cette quantit\u00e9 en cellules de stockage d'\u00e9nergie, tous types de chimie et tous continents confondus, l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, montre bien l'ampleur de la t\u00e2che.<\/p>\n<p>Plus important encore, c'est la preuve que CATL a surmont\u00e9 les d\u00e9fis de toute la cha\u00eene de production de masse des batteries sodium-ion. Cela ouvre en effet la voie \u00e0 une large adoption dans les voitures et dans l'industrie du stockage de l'\u00e9nergie ; c'est un moment d\u00e9cisif.<\/p>\n<h4>Pas la m\u00eame batterie<\/h4>\n<p>Il existe toutefois une diff\u00e9rence importante, d'ordre technique. La cellule utilis\u00e9e dans les syst\u00e8mes de stockage d'HyperStrong n'est pas la m\u00eame que la batterie Naxtra EV d\u00e9voil\u00e9e lors du Tech Day. La version pour le stockage d'\u00e9nergie est une cellule de grand format avec une densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique d'environ 160 Wh\/kg, un peu en dessous des 175 Wh\/kg de Naxtra.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> Le lithium-ion double ce chiffre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mais ce qui manque \u00e0 ces cellules sodium-ion en termes de densit\u00e9 brute, elles le compensent en termes d'endurance : plus de 15 000 cycles tout en conservant une capacit\u00e9 de 80%. Cela signifie que les packs peuvent durer quarante ans d'utilisation quotidienne de charge et de d\u00e9charge, alors que la fen\u00eatre de fonctionnement thermique s'\u00e9tend de -40\u00b0C \u00e0 +70\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<h4>Le probl\u00e8me de la fabrication<\/h4>\n<p>La chimie des batteries sodium-ion est comprise depuis des d\u00e9cennies. Tout comme pour les versions \u00e0 semi-conducteurs, l'obstacle \u00e0 la commercialisation n'\u00e9tait pas tant le manuel d'\u00e9lectrochimie que la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de l'usine. L'annonce du CATL mentionne les probl\u00e8mes de fabrication sp\u00e9cifiques qu'il a maintenant r\u00e9solus : la formation de mousse dans les lignes de production de carbone dur et le contr\u00f4le de l'humidit\u00e9 pendant l'assemblage des cellules.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Les solutions d\u00e9ploy\u00e9es sont des r\u00e9alisations techniques peu glorieuses (ajustement de la taille des pores \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle de l'angstr\u00f6m, verrouillage de l'eau mol\u00e9culaire en surface et processus de formation dynamique adaptatif, pour \u00eatre pr\u00e9cis). N\u00e9anmoins, elles font ce qu'elles sont cens\u00e9es faire : transformer le prototype en une cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement fiable.<\/p>\n<h4>Debrecen, Hongrie<\/h4>\n<p>Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter que CATL a \u00e9galement con\u00e7u les nouvelles cellules pour qu'elles partagent les m\u00eames dimensions physiques que ses produits de stockage d'\u00e9nergie lithium-ion existants. Ainsi, des clients comme HyperStrong peuvent d\u00e9ployer des cellules sodium-ion dans leurs architectures existantes sans devoir proc\u00e9der \u00e0 une refonte fondamentale. Cela permet d'\u00e9viter les co\u00fbts d'adaptation et, bien s\u00fbr, constitue un argument commercial convaincant.<\/p>\n<p>Les batteries sodium-ion figurent sur la feuille de route de CATL depuis que l'entreprise a d\u00e9voil\u00e9 publiquement cette chimie en 2021. Bien que ce contrat de 60 GWh \u00e9tablisse un nouveau rythme pour la chimie sodium-ion, il ne s'agit pas d'une perturbation surprise, mais plut\u00f4t d'un plan de production m\u00e9ticuleusement \u00e9labor\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Le sodium est environ 1 000 fois plus abondant dans la cro\u00fbte terrestre que le lithium, et ses cha\u00eenes d'approvisionnement ne pr\u00e9sentent aucun des risques de concentration g\u00e9opolitique que connaissent le lithium, le cobalt et le nickel.<\/p>\n<p>Les conversations sur le stockage de l'\u00e9nergie en Europe ont tendance \u00e0 se concentrer sur le phosphate de fer lithi\u00e9. CATL poss\u00e8de une usine europ\u00e9enne de cellules \u00e0 Debrecen, en Hongrie.
