L'usine devrait cr\u00e9er 50 emplois permanents, en plus d'environ 300 emplois pendant la p\u00e9riode de construction de trois ans.<\/p>\n<h4>L'\u00e9thanol d'ArcelorMittal comme mati\u00e8re premi\u00e8re<\/h4>\n<p>LanzaTech est une entreprise technologique am\u00e9ricaine cot\u00e9e en bourse, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans la conversion du carbone des flux de d\u00e9chets industriels en nouvelles mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res, en combustibles durables et en produits chimiques.<\/p>\n<p>Selon Jennifer Holmgren, directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, Gand a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisie en raison de son \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me industriel existant et de l'infrastructure logistique le long du canal Gand-Terneuzen.<\/p>\n<p>L'usine serait situ\u00e9e juste en face de l'usine Steelanol d'ArcelorMittal. Le producteur d'acier fabrique de l'\u00e9thanol \u00e0 partir de gaz r\u00e9siduels industriels captur\u00e9s. Cet \u00e9thanol servira d\u00e9sormais de mati\u00e8re premi\u00e8re \u00e0 la nouvelle usine de LanzaTech, o\u00f9 un processus chimique le convertira en carbur\u00e9acteur durable.<\/p>\n<p>Le r\u00f4le de Steelanol, qui utilise la technologie d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par LanzaTech, dans le nouveau projet est frappant. Pas plus tard qu'\u00e0 la fin de l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, des questions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soulev\u00e9es quant \u00e0 la viabilit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique de l'installation, qui a co\u00fbt\u00e9 quelque 200 millions d'euros et qui est op\u00e9rationnelle depuis \u00e0 peine 3,5 ans. \u00c0 l'\u00e9poque, on parlait ouvertement d'une \u00e9ventuelle fermeture.<\/p>\n<p>Le cadre r\u00e9glementaire a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le particuli\u00e8rement important : l'\u00e9thanol produit n'\u00e9tait pas encore reconnu comme un biocarburant avanc\u00e9 ou un carburant recycl\u00e9, ce qui signifie que les avantages pour le climat n'ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 suffisamment pris en compte dans le bilan des \u00e9missions.<\/p>\n<p>Selon ArcelorMittal, sans solution, l'installation risquait de devenir \u00e9conomiquement intenable. La SAF est actuellement consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme l'une des principales alternatives au k\u00e9ros\u00e8ne conventionnel dans le secteur de l'aviation, o\u00f9 les pressions se font de plus en plus fortes pour r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de CO2. Les r\u00e9glementations europ\u00e9ennes exigent \u00e9galement que les compagnies a\u00e9riennes augmentent la proportion de carburants durables dans leur m\u00e9lange de carburants dans les ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n<p>L'usine SAF fait partie du consortium FLITE (Fuel via Low carbon Integrated Technology from Ethanol) et b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie du soutien du programme europ\u00e9en Horizon 2020. L'installation doit se conformer aux normes internationales pour les SAF, notamment CORSIA et les normes europ\u00e9ennes pour les SAF. <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/fr\/2025\/03\/28\/european-airlines-pull-the-emergency-brake-on-targets-around-saf\/\">ReFuelEU<\/a> R\u00e9glementation a\u00e9rienne.<\/p>\n<p>Actuellement, il n'existe qu'une seule usine commerciale LanzaJet dans le monde, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 Soperton, en G\u00e9orgie (\u00c9tats-Unis). Cette usine a une capacit\u00e9 d'environ 10 millions de gallons de carburant par an.<\/p>\n<p>Au Royaume-Uni, LanzaJet - la filiale de LanzaTech qui commercialise la technologie Alcohol-to-Jet - poss\u00e8de \u00e9galement des usines, notamment \u00e0 Teesside. L'usine produira plus de 90 000 tonnes de SAF et de diesel renouvelable par an. Toutes les SAF produites sont destin\u00e9es \u00e0 British Airways, ce qui r\u00e9duirait les \u00e9missions de CO2 de la compagnie a\u00e9rienne de 230 000 tonnes par an.<\/p>\n<h4>Aucune date de d\u00e9but n'a encore \u00e9t\u00e9 annonc\u00e9e<\/h4>\n<p>\u00c0 l'heure actuelle, les \u00e9tudes pr\u00e9liminaires seraient en grande partie termin\u00e9es, les lettres d'intention pour l'approvisionnement en mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9es et les grandes lignes des accords d'exploitation ont \u00e9t\u00e9 finalis\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, l'investissement doit encore faire l'objet de proc\u00e9dures d'autorisation suppl\u00e9mentaires et d'une d\u00e9cision d'investissement finale.<\/p>\n<p>La notification de l'\u00e9valuation des incidences sur l'environnement (EIE) sera bient\u00f4t soumise aux autorit\u00e9s comp\u00e9tentes, marquant ainsi une \u00e9tape importante dans la phase suivante du projet. Un calendrier pr\u00e9cis pour le d\u00e9but de la construction n'a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 annonc\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h4>\u2018Impact 2030\u2019<\/h4>\n<p>Selon North Sea Port, le projet d\u00e9montre \u00e9galement pourquoi le port de Gand reste un site attractif pour les nouveaux projets \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques et chimiques. Le port dispose de vastes installations de stockage pour le vrac liquide, d'une infrastructure existante pour les carburants et de connexions multimodales via le transport maritime, les voies navigables int\u00e9rieures, le rail et la route.<\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00e9sence de grands acteurs industriels joue \u00e9galement un r\u00f4le important, tout comme la strat\u00e9gie \u2018Impact 2030\u2019, qui s'engage pleinement en faveur de la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, de l'\u00e9conomie circulaire et des carburants alternatifs tels que l'hydrog\u00e8ne et les biocarburants. La zone portuaire accueille 550 entreprises et cr\u00e9e des emplois directs et indirects pour 106 000 personnes.<\/p>\n<p>Les SAF sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 produites en Belgique, bien qu'il s'agisse d'un d\u00e9veloppement relativement r\u00e9cent. En ao\u00fbt dernier, TotalEnergies a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 produire des FAS dans sa raffinerie d'Anvers. Les FAS sont produites par co-traitement, une m\u00e9thode int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dans laquelle les mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res renouvelables sont trait\u00e9es en m\u00eame temps que le p\u00e9trole dans une installation de raffinage existante.<\/p>\n<p>Les mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res utilis\u00e9es sont l'huile de cuisson et les graisses animales.
