Zipse au sein du conseil d'administration et cl\u00f4t une carri\u00e8re de 35 ans chez le constructeur automobile bavarois, dont sept ans en tant que pr\u00e9sident-directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral.<\/p>\n<p>Les adieux officiels ont \u00e9t\u00e9, comme on pouvait s'y attendre, chaleureux. Le pr\u00e9sident du conseil de surveillance, Nicolas Peter, a reconnu que M. Zipse avait \u201cfa\u00e7onn\u00e9 le d\u00e9veloppement du groupe BMW\u201d et qu'il avait maintenu l'entreprise sur la bonne voie malgr\u00e9 Covid-19, les perturbations de la cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement, les turbulences g\u00e9opolitiques et la transition technologique la plus difficile \u00e0 laquelle l'industrie automobile ait \u00e9t\u00e9 confront\u00e9e depuis des d\u00e9cennies.<\/p>\n<p>Pour BMW, le nom de Zipse restera avant tout li\u00e9 \u00e0 la Neue Klasse, la nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques et d\u00e9finis par logiciel sur laquelle le groupe mise beaucoup \u00e0 partir de 2026.<\/p>\n<h4>Jamais un outsider<\/h4>\n<p>Zipse n'a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 un outsider amen\u00e9 \u00e0 secouer BMW. N\u00e9 \u00e0 Heidelberg en 1964, il a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 l'ing\u00e9nierie m\u00e9canique et a rejoint BMW en 1991 en tant que stagiaire en d\u00e9veloppement et en production.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours de sa carri\u00e8re, il est pass\u00e9 par la planification de la production, l'Afrique du Sud, l'usine MINI d'Oxford, la planification d'entreprise et la strat\u00e9gie produit. Avant de devenir PDG en 2019, il \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 membre du conseil d'administration responsable de la production. Cette exp\u00e9rience explique en grande partie son style de leadership : moins de spectacle public, plus de discipline industrielle.<\/p>\n<h4>Ouverture technologique<\/h4>\n<p>Son plus grand choix strat\u00e9gique a \u00e9t\u00e9 de r\u00e9sister \u00e0 l'id\u00e9e que BMW devait devenir le plus rapidement possible une entreprise exclusivement \u00e9lectrique. Sous la direction de Zipse, BMW a d\u00e9fendu ce qu'elle appelle \u201cl'ouverture technologique\u201d : voitures \u00e9lectriques \u00e0 batterie, hybrides rechargeables, moteurs \u00e0 combustion efficaces et, \u00e0 plus long terme, hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>Les critiques y ont vu une h\u00e9sitation. Ses partisans affirment qu'elle a permis \u00e0 BMW de rester rentable alors que la demande, l'infrastructure de recharge, la r\u00e9glementation et les co\u00fbts des mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res \u00e9voluaient \u00e0 des rythmes tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents dans le monde.<\/p>\n<p>Les chiffres donnent des arguments aux deux parties. BMW a \u00e9vit\u00e9 les probl\u00e8mes de rentabilit\u00e9 li\u00e9s aux v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques que connaissent certains de ses rivaux et est rest\u00e9 l'un des constructeurs haut de gamme les plus stables d'Europe.<\/p>\n<h4>2,46 millions de v\u00e9hicules<\/h4>\n<p>En 2025, le groupe a vendu 2,46 millions de v\u00e9hicules, dont plus de 442 000 mod\u00e8les enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectriques. Les voitures \u00e9lectriques \u00e0 batterie repr\u00e9sentaient pr\u00e8s de 18% des livraisons totales, tandis que les ventes totales de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectrifi\u00e9s d\u00e9passaient les 642 000 unit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Le b\u00e9n\u00e9fice avant imp\u00f4t du groupe a encore atteint plus de 10 milliards d'euros, bien que la marge EBIT de l'automobile, \u00e0 5,3%, soit rest\u00e9e en dessous de la fourchette cible \u00e0 long terme de BMW.<\/p>\n<p>L'objectif de Zipse n'\u00e9tait donc pas de faire de BMW le leader de l'\u00e9lectrique, mais de lui permettre de rester financi\u00e8rement solide tout en pr\u00e9parant une transformation plus profonde. La Neue Klasse est cens\u00e9e \u00eatre cette transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Elle apporte une nouvelle architecture pour les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques, des batteries plus efficaces, une nouvelle structure \u00e9lectronique et logicielle et un nouveau concept de production. BMW l'a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e comme une r\u00e9initialisation g\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelle comparable en importance \u00e0 la Neue Klasse originale des ann\u00e9es 1960, qui a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9finir la marque BMW moderne.<\/p>\n<h4>Questions sans r\u00e9ponse<\/h4>\n<p>Cependant, Zipse laisse \u00e9galement des questions sans r\u00e9ponse. La plus importante concerne la Chine. Les ventes de BMW y ont fortement chut\u00e9 en 2025, de 12,5%, car les marques \u00e9lectriques locales ont intensifi\u00e9 la guerre des prix et acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9 les cycles des produits.<\/p>\n<p>L'entreprise esp\u00e8re que l'iX3 et la famille Neue Klasse au sens large pourront stabiliser puis r\u00e9tablir sa position sur le plus grand march\u00e9 automobile du monde, mais cette preuve appartient d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 Nedeljkovi\u0107 plut\u00f4t qu'\u00e0 Zipse.<\/p>\n<p>Il y a \u00e9galement eu des probl\u00e8mes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Le rappel du syst\u00e8me de freinage, qui a touch\u00e9 plus de 1,5 million de v\u00e9hicules en 2024, a contraint BMW \u00e0 revoir ses perspectives \u00e0 la baisse et a entra\u00een\u00e9 une hausse des co\u00fbts de garantie.<\/p>\n<h4>Risque li\u00e9 au refroidisseur EGR<\/h4>\n<p>Mais un probl\u00e8me de r\u00e9putation plus persistant est le risque d'incendie associ\u00e9 depuis longtemps aux refroidisseurs EGR dans les mod\u00e8les diesel de BMW. Le probl\u00e8me est ant\u00e9rieur au mandat de M. Zipse en tant que PDG, mais il est apparu alors qu'il \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 chef de la production de BMW et a persist\u00e9 tout au long de son mandat.<\/p>\n<p>BMW a reconnu en 2018 que des fuites de liquide de refroidissement provenant du refroidisseur de recirculation des gaz d'\u00e9chappement pouvaient se m\u00e9langer \u00e0 des d\u00e9p\u00f4ts de suie et, \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es, conduire dans des cas extr\u00eames \u00e0 un incendie.<\/p>\n<p>En 2018, BMW a \u00e9tendu une campagne ant\u00e9rieure sur le refroidisseur EGR \u00e0 environ 1,6 million de v\u00e9hicules diesel dans le monde, apr\u00e8s que le probl\u00e8me ait entra\u00een\u00e9 des rappels en Cor\u00e9e du Sud et en Europe. Mais ce n'\u00e9tait pas la fin du dossier.<\/p>\n<p>En 2019, la campagne a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9largie \u00e0 232 000 v\u00e9hicules suppl\u00e9mentaires et, en 2021, BMW a lanc\u00e9 un nouveau rappel de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis pour certains mod\u00e8les diesel 2013-2018, y compris les v\u00e9hicules qui avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait l'objet du rappel de 2018, parce qu'ils n\u00e9cessitaient un refroidisseur EGR mis \u00e0 jour.<\/p>\n<p>En 2024, les m\u00e9dias allemands ont fait \u00e9tat d'une nouvelle expansion majeure touchant pr\u00e8s de 800 000 v\u00e9hicules diesel BMW rien qu'en Allemagne, et jusqu'\u00e0 1,9 million de v\u00e9hicules potentiellement concern\u00e9s dans le monde.<\/p>\n<p>La question est revenue sur le devant de la sc\u00e8ne en Belgique cette semaine, lorsque l'\u00e9mission de la VRT <em data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"951\">Pano<\/em> a enqu\u00eat\u00e9 sur la fa\u00e7on dont les rappels de millions de voitures diesel BMW ont tra\u00een\u00e9 pendant des ann\u00e9es, avec des propri\u00e9taires, des garagistes et des experts internationaux qui ont t\u00e9moign\u00e9 sur des voitures qui ont soudainement pris feu.<\/p>\n<p>Il ne fait aucun doute que la r\u00e9putation de BMW en tant que marque allemande haut de gamme joue \u00e9galement un r\u00f4le \u00e0 cet \u00e9gard. \u00c0 notre connaissance, peu de personnes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9es physiquement par les incendies, mais l'impact financier pour les propri\u00e9taires de BMW peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9rable. Le scandale des airbags Takata a eu des cons\u00e9quences bien plus importantes pour de nombreux constructeurs, avec \u00e9galement de graves blessures physiques et m\u00eame des d\u00e9c\u00e8s, mais les r\u00e9actions de la presse ont souvent \u00e9t\u00e9 plus discr\u00e8tes et plus indulgentes.<\/p>\n<p>Il convient \u00e9galement de s'interroger sur la responsabilit\u00e9 r\u00e9glementaire des autorit\u00e9s de l'UE. L'Europe, qui semble avoir des r\u00e8gles pour tout, est manifestement n\u00e9gligente dans certains aspects de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des v\u00e9hicules et dans les contr\u00f4les qu'elle doit exercer en la mati\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<h4>Donner un poids politique \u00e0 BMW<\/h4>\n<p>En Europe, les critiques r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9es de M. Zipse \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard d'une \u00e9limination progressive des moteurs \u00e0 combustion fix\u00e9e \u00e0 2035 ont fait de lui l'un des opposants les plus visibles de l'industrie \u00e0 une approche r\u00e9glementaire \u00e0 voie unique.<\/p>\n<p>Cette position a donn\u00e9 \u00e0 BMW un poids politique, notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son r\u00f4le de pr\u00e9sident de l'ACEA, mais elle a \u00e9galement fait de lui une figure de division dans le d\u00e9bat sur le climat.<\/p>\n<p>La nomination de Nedeljkovi\u0107 est un signe de continuit\u00e9 plut\u00f4t que de rupture. \u00c0 l'instar de M. Zipse, il est un habitu\u00e9 de BMW, avec une exp\u00e9rience de la production. N\u00e9 en 1969, il a rejoint l'entreprise en 1993 en tant que stagiaire et a dirig\u00e9 des usines \u00e0 Oxford, Leipzig et Munich.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis 2019, il si\u00e8ge au conseil d'administration de BMW en tant que responsable de la production et a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9troitement impliqu\u00e9 dans la pr\u00e9paration du r\u00e9seau de fabrication mondial \u00e0 l'\u00e9lectrification. Son contrat en tant que PDG court jusqu'en 2031.<\/p>\n<p>Sa t\u00e2che principale est maintenant l'ex\u00e9cution. La strat\u00e9gie a \u00e9t\u00e9 largement d\u00e9finie : lancer Neue Klasse sans retard, d\u00e9velopper les VE sans d\u00e9truire les marges, d\u00e9fendre les prix haut de gamme de BMW et reprendre de l'\u00e9lan en Chine tout en g\u00e9rant les tarifs douaniers am\u00e9ricains et le march\u00e9 europ\u00e9en des VE plus lent que pr\u00e9vu.<\/p>\n<p>Il doit \u00e9galement prouver que la strat\u00e9gie de transmission flexible de BMW peut rester un avantage alors que les r\u00e9glementations se durcissent et que les concurrents chinois introduisent en Europe des voitures \u00e9lectriques plus rapides et moins ch\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Nedeljkovi\u0107 h\u00e9rite d'une entreprise qui est loin d'\u00eatre en panne, mais qui n'est pas non plus confortablement en avance.
