Pas la technologie \u00e0 l'\u00e9tat solide (bien qu'elle soit \u00e9galement \u00e0 venir). Pas la technologie sodium-ion (qui entre d\u00e9j\u00e0 en production de masse cette ann\u00e9e).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>L'entreprise de batteries qui a correctement pr\u00e9dit et pouss\u00e9 ces transitions affirme aujourd'hui que la v\u00e9ritable finalit\u00e9 est une batterie qui utilise l'oxyg\u00e8ne atmosph\u00e9rique comme mat\u00e9riau d'\u00e9lectrode central. Si CATL le dit, nous ferions mieux de l'\u00e9couter.<\/p>\n<h4>Le prochain grand projet<\/h4>\n<p>M\u00eame s'il s'agit d'une annonce \u00e0 laquelle personne ne s'attendait vraiment. Lors du forum 2026 Powering the Nation, Wu Kai, directeur scientifique de CATL, a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 une feuille de route technologique en trois parties. Sodium-ion : production en s\u00e9rie d'ici la fin de l'ann\u00e9e. \u00c9tat solide : production en petites s\u00e9ries \u00e0 partir de 2027. Mais ensuite, c'est le lithium-air qui sera \u00e0 l'honneur.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le m\u00e9dia CarNewsChina, c'est la premi\u00e8re fois que CATL d\u00e9signe publiquement cette technologie comme une orientation strat\u00e9gique. L'entreprise dispose d'une sorte de boule de cristal, m\u00eame s'il est plus facile d'orienter les directions lorsqu'on est le poids lourd du secteur. En 2020, CATL a fait un choix identique sur la chimie des ions sodium. Tout le monde pensait qu'il s'agissait d'une attraction, mais le fabricant de batteries a tenu parole. Exactement dans les temps.<\/p>\n<h4>Un avantage de poids incroyable<\/h4>\n<p>Comme son nom l'indique, une batterie lithium-air remplace sa cathode par de l'oxyg\u00e8ne provenant directement de l'air ambiant. Contrairement aux batteries lithium-ion classiques, qui utilisent des compos\u00e9s de m\u00e9taux lourds \u00e0 la cathode (NMC ou nickel, mangan\u00e8se et cobalt) pour accueillir les ions lithium pendant le cycle. On pourrait dire que la batterie \u2018respire\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Comme il n'y a pas de m\u00e9taux rares \u00e0 la cathode, l'approvisionnement en mat\u00e9riaux essentiels est beaucoup moins critique. Il n'est donc plus n\u00e9cessaire de naviguer dans les tensions g\u00e9opolitiques, et l'avantage en termes de poids est tout simplement spectaculaire.<\/p>\n<p>Les prototypes de laboratoire ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 atteint 1 200 Wh\/kg, soit quatre fois plus que les cellules lithium-ion courantes d'aujourd'hui. Le plafond th\u00e9orique est de 12 000 Wh\/kg, ce qui est directement comparable \u00e0 l'essence (13 000 Wh\/kg). En guise d'exemple, un pack de batteries pesant seulement 70 kg pourrait fournir une autonomie de 500 kilom\u00e8tres. Un moteur \u00e0 essence offrant une telle autonomie p\u00e8se deux fois plus.<\/p>\n<h4>Une invention des ann\u00e9es 70<\/h4>\n<p>Le lithium-air peut exister \u00e0 l'\u00e9tat liquide ou solide. Mais c'est ce dernier qui a permis une perc\u00e9e, car les \u00e9lectrolytes liquides ont tendance \u00e0 se d\u00e9composer \u00e0 cause des sous-produits de l'oxyg\u00e8ne au cours de la r\u00e9action. Le laboratoire am\u00e9ricain Argonne\/IIT a atteint 1 200 Wh\/kg en combinant l'\u00e9tat solide et l'\u00e9tat liquide. Le pack a surv\u00e9cu \u00e0 plus de 1 000 cycles de charge \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante, ce qui constitue le seuil de durabilit\u00e9 pratique pour les applications automobiles.<\/p>\n<p>L'air comme cathode est un concept assez ancien, qui remonte aux ann\u00e9es 1970. IBM a essay\u00e9 de fabriquer cette technologie, mais a discr\u00e8tement abandonn\u00e9 son programme il y a une quinzaine d'ann\u00e9es. Aujourd'hui, le r\u00e9sultat de 1 000 cycles fait passer la technologie de \u201cth\u00e9oriquement int\u00e9ressante\u201d \u00e0 \u201cdigne d'un investissement industriel s\u00e9rieux\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Si le lithium-air parvient \u00e0 \u00eatre d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 commercialement ne serait-ce qu'\u00e0 une fraction de ses performances en laboratoire, l'autonomie d'un v\u00e9hicule d\u00e9passant 1 600 km devient r\u00e9aliste. Rien de tout cela n'est garanti. Mais CATL n'est pas un groupe de recherche en qu\u00eate de financement.
