Le m\u00e9thanier nouvellement construit a \u00e9t\u00e9 baptis\u00e9 \u2018 MGC Antwerpen \u2019 et est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d'un moteur bi-carburant : cela signifie qu'il peut<\/span> fonctionnent au diesel et \u00e0 l'ammoniac. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'utilisation de l'ammoniac \u00e0 faible empreinte carbone comme carburant, le navire navigue pratiquement sans \u00e9missions. Cela se traduit par une r\u00e9duction des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre pouvant atteindre 90 % par rapport aux navires conventionnels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ce navire a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u en \u00e9troite collaboration avec HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, WinGD, Nord Gas Solutions (anciennement W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 Gas Solutions) et Lloyd\u2019s Register. Il peut transporter jusqu\u2019\u00e0 46 000 m\u00b3 d\u2019ammoniac ou de GPL et naviguer avec des \u00e9missions quasi nulles lorsqu\u2019il utilise de l\u2019ammoniac \u00e0 faible teneur en carbone comme carburant.<\/p>\n

Le MGC Antwerpen est le premier d'une s\u00e9rie de quatre m\u00e9thaniers de taille moyenne similaires, chacun portant le nom d'une ville belge. Avec la livraison de l'Antwerpen, Exmar poursuit sa tradition d'innovation et confirme son leadership dans le transport maritime et la manutention de l'ammoniac.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 complexe<\/h4>\n

Naviguer \u00e0 l'ammoniac n'est toutefois pas une mince affaire. L'ammoniac est en effet hautement toxique et explosif. Cela n\u00e9cessite donc une infrastructure de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 extr\u00eamement complexe. Les \u00e9missions d'oxydes d'azote suscitent \u00e9galement des inqui\u00e9tudes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exmar qualifie n\u00e9anmoins cette initiative d\u201c\u201d \u00e9tape tr\u00e8s importante vers un transport maritime \u00e0 faible empreinte carbone \u201c et de \u201d pas d\u00e9cisif vers la d\u00e9carbonisation du transport maritime \u00bb.
