{"id":187776,"date":"2026-06-12T12:14:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T10:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=187776"},"modified":"2026-06-12T12:18:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T10:18:09","slug":"provost-draws-the-line-renault-eyes-drones-not-defence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/fr\/2026\/06\/12\/provost-draws-the-line-renault-eyes-drones-not-defence\/","title":{"rendered":"Provost met les choses au clair : Renault s'int\u00e9resse aux drones, pas \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Le groupe Renault ne se transformera pas en entreprise du secteur de la d\u00e9fense, alors que l'industrie automobile europ\u00e9enne est confront\u00e9e \u00e0 la concurrence des constructeurs chinois de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques et que le continent s'empresse de reconstituer ses capacit\u00e9s militaires.<\/p>\n<p>C'est le message qu'a fait passer Fran\u00e7ois Provost, PDG du groupe Renault, lors d'un entretien avec Bas Kurstjens, du journal De Tijd, et d'autres m\u00e9dias, \u00e0 l'occasion du congr\u00e8s Automotive News Europe qui s'est tenu la semaine derni\u00e8re \u00e0 Bruxelles.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsqu'on lui a demand\u00e9 si les contrats dans le domaine de la d\u00e9fense pourraient constituer un nouvel avenir pour l'un des plus grands constructeurs automobiles europ\u00e9ens, M. Provost a \u00e9t\u00e9 cat\u00e9gorique : \u201c Renault ne deviendra pas une entreprise du secteur de la d\u00e9fense. \u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Projet \u00ab Chorus Drone \u00bb<\/h4>\n<p>Cette d\u00e9claration est surprenante, car Renault a d\u00e9j\u00e0 pris ses premi\u00e8res mesures concr\u00e8tes dans ce secteur. Le groupe fran\u00e7ais participe au projet de drone Chorus avec Turgis Gaillard, dont l'assemblage est pr\u00e9vu sur son site du Mans. Le message de M. Provost au journal De Tijd. \u201c C'est une opportunit\u00e9, mais notre strat\u00e9gie n'en d\u00e9pendra jamais. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Il a ajout\u00e9 que Renault n'utiliserait pas les fonds publics allou\u00e9s \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense simplement \u201c pour remplir des usines inutilis\u00e9es \u201d. Ce n'est que dans le cadre d'une v\u00e9ritable \u00e9conomie de guerre, a-t-il laiss\u00e9 entendre, que la d\u00e9fense pourrait devenir un secteur d'activit\u00e9 important pour le groupe.<\/p>\n<h4>Contrairement aux autres constructeurs automobiles europ\u00e9ens<\/h4>\n<p>Cette position distingue Renault de certains de ses concurrents europ\u00e9ens. Volkswagen subit une pression bien plus forte pour red\u00e9finir le r\u00f4le de son usine d'Osnabr\u00fcck, o\u00f9 la production du T-Roc doit prendre fin d'ici mi-2027, laissant 2 300 emplois dans l'incertitude.<\/p>\n<p>VW a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 diff\u00e9rentes options li\u00e9es au secteur de la d\u00e9fense pour ce site, tandis que son PDG, Oliver Blume, a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ce secteur comme une solution de secours envisageable pour les capacit\u00e9s automobiles sous-utilis\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes-Benz s'engage \u00e9galement de mani\u00e8re plus ouverte dans le domaine des v\u00e9hicules li\u00e9s \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense. La marque a conclu un accord de collaboration avec la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 munichoise Tytan Technologies pour d\u00e9velopper des syst\u00e8mes de lutte contre les drones embarqu\u00e9s sur des v\u00e9hicules, en utilisant la Classe G et le Sprinter comme plateformes.<\/p>\n<p>Contrairement \u00e0 Renault, Mercedes poss\u00e8de d\u00e9j\u00e0 une longue tradition dans le domaine des v\u00e9hicules sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s destin\u00e9s \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, au sauvetage et \u00e0 l'usage militaire. Son activit\u00e9 dans le secteur de la d\u00e9fense reste modeste, mais elle est de plus en plus consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme un secteur de croissance strat\u00e9gique.<\/p>\n<h4>Prot\u00e9ger la cha\u00eene de valeur automobile europ\u00e9enne<\/h4>\n<p>Le point de vue du vice-recteur est diff\u00e9rent. Sa principale pr\u00e9occupation n\u2019est pas de savoir comment remplir les usines, mais comment prot\u00e9ger la cha\u00eene de valeur automobile europ\u00e9enne. \u201c Nous n\u2019avons pas de surcapacit\u00e9 dans nos usines \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. C\u2019est pourquoi Renault n\u2019a pas besoin de prendre le genre de mesures d\u00e9fensives actuellement envisag\u00e9es par d\u2019autres constructeurs, comme la production de voitures de marque chinoise dans des usines europ\u00e9ennes.<\/p>\n<p>Selon M. Provost, le v\u00e9ritable danger se situe plus en amont dans la cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement. Il fait valoir que l'assemblage automobile ne repr\u00e9sente qu'une petite partie de la valeur d'un v\u00e9hicule, tandis que l'essentiel de cette valeur provient des fournisseurs, de l'ing\u00e9nierie, des batteries et des composants.<\/p>\n<p>Si les marques chinoises assemblaient des voitures en Europe tout en continuant \u00e0 importer la plupart des pi\u00e8ces essentielles issues de leurs propres \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes, les fournisseurs europ\u00e9ens risqueraient tout de m\u00eame de perdre en envergure et en importance.<\/p>\n<p>C'est l\u00e0 que le point de vue du vice-recteur diverge de celui de Stellantis. Le groupe franco-italien a opt\u00e9 pour une approche bien plus pragmatique en s'associant \u00e0 Leapmotor.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis et Leapmotor pr\u00e9voient de construire des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en Espagne, notamment le Leapmotor B10 et un nouveau SUV \u00e9lectrique de marque Opel. Pour Stellantis, cet accord permet de mieux exploiter des capacit\u00e9s sous-utilis\u00e9es et d'acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer l'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 une technologie de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques abordables. Pour M. Provost, de tels accords ne sont b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques pour l'Europe que s'ils s'accompagnent d'un renforcement de l'approvisionnement en composants et de l'ing\u00e9nierie au niveau local.<\/p>\n<h4>S'approvisionner en pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es en Europe<\/h4>\n<p>\u201c Je pense que la meilleure solution pour l\u2019Europe est vraiment de conclure un accord avec la Chine fond\u00e9 sur cette strat\u00e9gie \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Provost lors d\u2019une autre intervention \u00e0 Bruxelles, estimant qu\u2019il fallait encourager les constructeurs automobiles chinois \u00e0 s\u2019approvisionner en pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es en Europe, et non pas se contenter d\u2019y assembler des voitures.<\/p>\n<p>Dans l'interview accord\u00e9e \u00e0 De Tijd, il a compar\u00e9 cette id\u00e9e \u00e0 ce que la Chine exigeait des constructeurs automobiles occidentaux il y a trente ans, \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 l'acc\u00e8s au march\u00e9 s'accompagnait d'attentes en mati\u00e8re de production locale et de partage de technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Parall\u00e8lement, Renault profite d'une forte acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de la demande en v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. M. Provost a indiqu\u00e9 que les commandes de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques avaient fortement augment\u00e9 dans des pays comme la France et l'Allemagne depuis que la guerre en Iran a fait grimper les prix du carburant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Nous d\u00e9passons actuellement la capacit\u00e9 de nos fournisseurs en raison de la guerre en Iran \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 Reuters, ajoutant que Renault avait \u201c d\u00e9j\u00e0 revu ses pr\u00e9visions \u201d concernant les ventes de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. Dans l'interview accord\u00e9e \u00e0 De Tijd, il a indiqu\u00e9 que ce sont d\u00e9sormais les particuliers, plut\u00f4t que les clients de flottes, qui tirent le march\u00e9, en particulier les m\u00e9nages qui remplacent une deuxi\u00e8me voiture.<\/p>\n<p>Le contexte concurrentiel \u00e9volue rapidement. Volkswagen, Stellantis et Renault ont conjointement exhort\u00e9 Bruxelles \u00e0 adopter un cadre simple intitul\u00e9 \u201c Made in Europe \u201d, en vertu duquel 70% des voitures vendues dans l'UE comporteraient 70% de valeur locale.<\/p>\n<p>Leur message commun est que l'Europe a besoin de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques abordables, d'un soutien en mati\u00e8re de batteries et d'une certaine souplesse r\u00e9glementaire, mais leurs strat\u00e9gies ne sont pas identiques.<\/p>\n<p>Renault souhaite localiser sa cha\u00eene de valeur sans ouvrir ses usines aux marques chinoises. Stellantis est dispos\u00e9 \u00e0 s'associer \u00e0 Leapmotor pour une coproduction. Volkswagen envisage le secteur de la d\u00e9fense comme une solution possible pour rem\u00e9dier \u00e0 la sous-utilisation de ses usines.
