Mais \u00e0 peine quelques jours plus tard, le constructeur automobile fran\u00e7ais a annonc\u00e9 un nouvel accord avec Thales qui rend cette ligne rouge plus difficile \u00e0 cerner.<\/p>\n<p>Lors d'une interview avec <em>De Tijd<\/em>\u2019Interrog\u00e9 par Bas Kurstjens et d\u2019autres journalistes lors du congr\u00e8s Automotive News Europe, M. Provost s\u2019est montr\u00e9 cat\u00e9gorique lorsqu\u2019on lui a demand\u00e9 si les contrats de d\u00e9fense pourraient constituer un nouvel avenir pour l\u2019un des plus grands constructeurs automobiles europ\u00e9ens. \u201c Renault ne deviendra pas une entreprise du secteur de la d\u00e9fense \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h4>Projet \u00ab Chorus Drone \u00bb<\/h4>\n<p>Cette annonce \u00e9tait d'autant plus marquante que Renault avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait ses premiers pas dans ce secteur avec le projet de drone \u00ab Chorus \u00bb, men\u00e9 en collaboration avec Turgis Gaillard, dont l'assemblage devait avoir lieu sur son site du Mans.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, le groupe va encore plus loin. Lors du salon de la d\u00e9fense Eurosatory, pr\u00e8s de Paris, Renault et Thales ont annonc\u00e9 un partenariat strat\u00e9gique visant \u00e0 industrialiser la production de la munition volante TOUTATIS, un drone d\u2019attaque \u00e0 courte port\u00e9e con\u00e7u pour les conflits de haute intensit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-187982\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Renault-Group-and-Thales-TOUTATIS-1.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Renault-Group-and-Thales-TOUTATIS-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C682&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Renault-Group-and-Thales-TOUTATIS-1.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Renault-Group-and-Thales-TOUTATIS-1.jpg?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Le TOUTATIS peut \u00eatre lanc\u00e9 depuis diff\u00e9rentes plateformes, rester en vol et frapper une cible apr\u00e8s validation par l'op\u00e9rateur. Renault et Thales affirment qu'il r\u00e9siste au brouillage \u00e9lectromagn\u00e9tique, qu'il peut embarquer une ogive configurable et qu'il pourrait op\u00e9rer au sein d'un essaim de drones.<\/p>\n<p>La production pourrait d\u00e9marrer en 2027, avec une capacit\u00e9 cible de 1 000 unit\u00e9s par mois d\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e. Cela repr\u00e9senterait un bond en avant consid\u00e9rable par rapport \u00e0 la production annuelle actuelle de Thales, qui s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 environ 100 unit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<h4>Produit industriel pouvant \u00eatre fabriqu\u00e9 en s\u00e9rie.<\/h4>\n<p>Le r\u00f4le de Renault n'est pas de concevoir l'arme, mais de contribuer \u00e0 en faire un produit industriel pouvant \u00eatre fabriqu\u00e9 en s\u00e9rie. Le groupe apportera son savoir-faire en ing\u00e9nierie automobile, ses m\u00e9thodes de fabrication, son expertise en moulage par injection de plastique et son savoir-faire en mati\u00e8re de r\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters a indiqu\u00e9 que ces drones seraient fabriqu\u00e9s dans l'une des usines de Renault et que la demande devrait provenir principalement des march\u00e9s d'exportation, aucun projet concret n'\u00e9tant encore pr\u00e9vu concernant d'importantes commandes de l'arm\u00e9e fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n<p>Cette nuance est importante. Le message du vice-recteur n\u2019est pas que Renault se tiendra \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart du secteur de la d\u00e9fense, mais que ce secteur ne sera pas l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u00e9terminant de Renault. \u201c Nous pouvons contribuer aux efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s en mati\u00e8re de d\u00e9fense \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 <em>De Tijd<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c C\u2019est une opportunit\u00e9, mais notre strat\u00e9gie n\u2019en d\u00e9pendra jamais. \u201d Il a \u00e9galement d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que Renault n\u2019utiliserait pas les fonds publics allou\u00e9s \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense simplement \u201c pour remplir des usines inoccup\u00e9es \u201d. Ce n\u2019est que dans le cadre d\u2019une v\u00e9ritable \u00e9conomie de guerre, a-t-il laiss\u00e9 entendre, que le secteur de la d\u00e9fense pourrait devenir une division importante.<\/p>\n<p>Pour autant, l'accord conclu avec Thales rend cette distinction de plus en plus floue. Renault ne se contente plus d'assembler des drones dans le cadre du projet Chorus. L'entreprise s'appr\u00eate d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 participer \u00e0 la production en s\u00e9rie d'un syst\u00e8me d'armement.<\/p>\n<h4>V\u00e9hicule tactique 4 TROOP<\/h4>\n<p>L'annonce concernant le TOUTATIS a fait suite \u00e0 une autre pr\u00e9sentation conjointe de Renault et Thales lors du salon Eurosatory : le v\u00e9hicule tactique 4 TROOP, une plateforme de commandement mobile s'inspirant d'un concept de v\u00e9hicule civil et \u00e9quip\u00e9e de syst\u00e8mes de communication, de capteurs, de connectivit\u00e9 tactique et d'un syst\u00e8me d'aide \u00e0 la d\u00e9cision bas\u00e9 sur l'intelligence artificielle, tous d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s par Thales.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-187981\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4-Troop.webp?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4-Troop.webp?resize=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4-Troop.webp?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4-Troop.webp?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Le 4 TROOP est capable de coordonner des drones et des v\u00e9hicules terrestres sans pilote, et d'assurer des missions de reconnaissance, d'escorte, de logistique, de surveillance et de coordination des troupes. Renault affirme qu'il pourrait \u00eatre produit rapidement et \u00e0 un co\u00fbt ma\u00eetris\u00e9 en s'appuyant sur des plateformes civiles existantes et sur ses capacit\u00e9s de production automobile. Selon Reuters, Renault serait en mesure de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 une commande de production d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de l'ann\u00e9e 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Ensemble, Chorus, TOUTATIS et 4 TROOP illustrent la mani\u00e8re dont Renault se positionne : non pas comme un fournisseur classique du secteur de la d\u00e9fense, mais comme un acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur industriel pour les syst\u00e8mes de d\u00e9fense. Cette approche diff\u00e8re de celle de Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz et Stellantis, mais elle inscrit n\u00e9anmoins Renault dans la m\u00eame tendance g\u00e9n\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen subit une pression bien plus forte pour trouver une nouvelle vocation \u00e0 son usine d'Osnabr\u00fcck, o\u00f9 la production du T-Roc doit prendre fin d'ici mi-2027, laissant 2 300 emplois dans l'incertitude.<\/p>\n<p>VW a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 diff\u00e9rentes options li\u00e9es au secteur de la d\u00e9fense pour ce site, tandis que son PDG, Oliver Blume, a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ce secteur comme une solution de secours envisageable pour les capacit\u00e9s automobiles sous-utilis\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes-Benz s'oriente de plus en plus ouvertement vers les v\u00e9hicules li\u00e9s au secteur de la d\u00e9fense. Le constructeur a conclu un accord de collaboration avec la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Tytan Technologies, bas\u00e9e \u00e0 Munich, pour d\u00e9velopper des syst\u00e8mes de lutte contre les drones embarqu\u00e9s sur des v\u00e9hicules, en utilisant la Classe G et le Sprinter comme plateformes. Contrairement \u00e0 Renault, Mercedes-Benz poss\u00e8de d\u00e9j\u00e0 une longue tradition dans le domaine des v\u00e9hicules sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s destin\u00e9s \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, au sauvetage et \u00e0 l'usage militaire.<\/p>\n<h4>Pas de surcapacit\u00e9<\/h4>\n<p>L'argument de Renault est diff\u00e9rent. \u201c Nous n\u2019avons pas de surcapacit\u00e9 dans nos usines \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Provost. Sa principale pr\u00e9occupation n\u2019est pas de savoir comment occuper les usines, mais comment prot\u00e9ger la cha\u00eene de valeur automobile europ\u00e9enne. L\u2019assemblage automobile, affirme-t-il, ne repr\u00e9sente qu\u2019une petite partie de la valeur d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule. La v\u00e9ritable force industrielle r\u00e9side dans les fournisseurs, l\u2019ing\u00e9nierie, les batteries, les logiciels et les composants.<\/p>\n<p>C'est \u00e9galement pour cette raison que M. Provost se m\u00e9fie des marques chinoises qui se contenteraient d'assembler des voitures en Europe tout en important la plupart des pi\u00e8ces essentielles issues de leurs propres \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes. Dans un tel sc\u00e9nario, les usines europ\u00e9ennes pourraient certes rester en activit\u00e9, mais les fournisseurs europ\u00e9ens risqueraient tout de m\u00eame de perdre en envergure et en pertinence.<\/p>\n<p>Son point de vue va \u00e0 l'encontre de l'approche plus pragmatique de Stellantis. Stellantis et Leapmotor pr\u00e9voient de construire des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en Espagne, notamment la Leapmotor B10 et un nouveau SUV \u00e9lectrique de la marque Opel.<\/p>\n<h4>Approvisionnement en pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es en Europe<\/h4>\n<p>Pour Stellantis, ce partenariat permet de tirer parti des capacit\u00e9s sous-utilis\u00e9es et d'acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer l'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 une technologie de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques abordable. Pour M. Provost, de tels accords ne peuvent fonctionner en Europe que s'ils s'accompagnent d'un ancrage local de l'approvisionnement en composants et de l'ing\u00e9nierie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Je pense que la meilleure voie pour l\u2019Europe est vraiment de conclure un accord avec la Chine fond\u00e9 sur cette strat\u00e9gie \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Provost \u00e0 Bruxelles, estimant que les constructeurs automobiles chinois devraient \u00eatre encourag\u00e9s \u00e0 s\u2019approvisionner en pi\u00e8ces d\u00e9tach\u00e9es en Europe, et non pas se contenter d\u2019y assembler des voitures.<\/p>\n<p>Il a compar\u00e9 cette situation \u00e0 ce que la Chine exigeait des constructeurs automobiles occidentaux il y a trois d\u00e9cennies, lorsque l'acc\u00e8s au march\u00e9 s'accompagnait d'exigences en mati\u00e8re de production locale et de partage de technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Parall\u00e8lement, Renault profite d'une forte acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de la demande en v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. M. Provost a indiqu\u00e9 que les commandes de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques avaient fortement augment\u00e9 dans des pays comme la France et l'Allemagne depuis que la guerre en Iran a fait grimper les prix des carburants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Nous d\u00e9passons actuellement la capacit\u00e9 de nos fournisseurs en raison de la guerre en Iran \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 Reuters, ajoutant que Renault avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 revu ses pr\u00e9visions de ventes de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. Selon lui, ce sont d\u00e9sormais les particuliers qui tirent le march\u00e9, en particulier les m\u00e9nages qui remplacent une deuxi\u00e8me voiture.<\/p>\n<p>Le contexte concurrentiel \u00e9volue rapidement. Volkswagen, Stellantis et Renault ont conjointement exhort\u00e9 Bruxelles \u00e0 adopter un cadre \u201c Made in Europe \u201d en vertu duquel 70% des voitures vendues dans l\u2019UE comporteraient 70% de valeur locale. Leur message commun est que l\u2019Europe a besoin de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques abordables, d\u2019un soutien en mati\u00e8re de batteries et d\u2019une flexibilit\u00e9 r\u00e9glementaire. Leurs strat\u00e9gies divergent toutefois.<\/p>\n<p>Renault souhaite localiser sa cha\u00eene de valeur sans ouvrir ses usines aux marques chinoises. Stellantis est dispos\u00e9 \u00e0 s'engager dans une coproduction avec Leapmotor. Volkswagen envisage le secteur de la d\u00e9fense comme une solution possible au sous-emploi de ses usines. Mercedes transforme les v\u00e9hicules sp\u00e9ciaux en une opportunit\u00e9 de d\u00e9fense.<\/p>\n<p>Renault insiste sur le fait que l'automobile reste son c\u0153ur de m\u00e9tier. Mais apr\u00e8s les accords conclus avec Thales, la formulation rev\u00eat plus d'importance que jamais. Renault ne deviendra peut-\u00eatre pas une entreprise du secteur de la d\u00e9fense.
