Jaguar se lance t\u00eate baiss\u00e9e dans son avenir \u00e9lectrique avec la Type 01, une imposante berline de luxe \u00e0 batterie con\u00e7ue pour rivaliser avec des marques telles que Bentley et Rolls-Royce. Motor1.com a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 Ian Callum, ancien directeur du design chez Jaguar et cr\u00e9ateur de plusieurs mod\u00e8les embl\u00e9matiques de la marque, ce qu\u2019il pensait de cette nouvelle venue. Son avis est bien s\u00fbr personnel, mais il est tout \u00e0 fait pertinent.<\/p>\n

Le lancement du prochain mod\u00e8le \u00e9lectrique de Jaguar, premier d\u2019une toute nouvelle \u00e8re, n\u2019a pas vraiment suscit\u00e9 l\u2019unanimit\u00e9. Sur Internet, la marque britannique embl\u00e9matique a \u00e9t\u00e9 critiqu\u00e9e pour son design et son approche marketing peu conventionnelle. Quoi qu\u2019il en soit, Jaguar poursuit sur sa lanc\u00e9e avec sa nouvelle Type 01, dont le nom a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9voil\u00e9 quelques mois seulement avant que les prototypes ne fassent leur apparition dans les rues. Le lancement officiel est d\u00e9sormais pr\u00e9vu pour la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e, apr\u00e8s plusieurs reports.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 la veille de ce qui pourrait bien \u00eatre le lancement le plus important de l'histoire de Jaguar, Motor1.com s'est entretenu avec celui qui a dirig\u00e9 le d\u00e9partement de design de la marque pendant plus de 20 ans afin de recueillir son avis sur la nouvelle image et la nouvelle orientation de Jaguar.<\/p>\n

Pas de beaut\u00e9<\/h4>\n

Ian Callum est un v\u00e9t\u00e9ran du secteur. Il a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1970 chez Ford, avant de gravir les \u00e9chelons pour prendre la t\u00eate de Jaguar en 1999. Callum a quitt\u00e9 le constructeur automobile en 2019 pour cr\u00e9er sa propre entreprise, Ian Callum Design, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans de nombreux domaines, allant de la conception de Mini r\u00e9tro tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9ciales \u00e0 celle de fauteuils somptueux, en passant par des concepts de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques adapt\u00e9s aux personnes en fauteuil roulant (comme eVita<\/a>) ou des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques tout-terrain sportifs (Callum Skye).<\/a><\/p>\n

Selon Ian Callum, il manque une chose \u00e0 la nouvelle Jaguar : la beaut\u00e9. \u201c Le concept Type 00 \u2013 dont les lignes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 largement reprises pour le mod\u00e8le de s\u00e9rie Type 01 \u2013 est tr\u00e8s audacieux et tr\u00e8s spectaculaire. Mais il lui manque la beaut\u00e9. \u2018<\/p>\n

\u201c Je ne nierai pas cette audace spectaculaire ; les proportions sont vraiment extr\u00eames. Pour moi, ce design est trop r\u00e9tro\u2026 mais cette extr\u00eame audace est courageuse. C\u2019est brutal, mais \u00e7a manque de beaut\u00e9, et je pense qu\u2019un des crit\u00e8res de Jaguar, c\u2019est justement d\u2019\u00eatre beau. Je ne dis pas que c\u2019est un mauvais design, il lui manque simplement cet \u00e9l\u00e9ment tr\u00e8s important, je dirais m\u00eame crucial, du design Jaguar : la beaut\u00e9 \u201d, a-t-il expliqu\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Au cours de ses 20 ann\u00e9es \u00e0 la t\u00eate du d\u00e9partement de design de Jaguar, Callum a con\u00e7u certains des mod\u00e8les Jaguar les plus embl\u00e9matiques de tous les temps. Comment qualifier autrement les berlines XF et XJ, ou encore les coup\u00e9s et roadsters XK et F-Type ?.<\/p>\n

Callum a \u00e9galement con\u00e7u l'I-Pace, un mod\u00e8le avant-gardiste qui a marqu\u00e9 les premiers pas de Jaguar dans l'\u00e8re \u00e9lectrique. Il le consid\u00e8re toujours comme l'une de ses plus belles cr\u00e9ations. Sa derni\u00e8re r\u00e9alisation chez Jaguar a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'incroyable concept-car C-X75. Bien qu'il n'ait jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 produit en s\u00e9rie, il est encore possible, en quelque sorte, d'en acheter un aupr\u00e8s de son entreprise aujourd'hui.<\/p>\n

Des supercars \u00e9lectriques ?<\/h4>\n

Selon Callum, la Type 1 pr\u00e9sente un autre probl\u00e8me. Il estime en effet que la motorisation \u00e9lectrique limitera \u00e9galement l'attrait de cette grande Jaguar, car de plus en plus d'acheteurs fortun\u00e9s semblent \u00e9viter ou d\u00e9tester les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques tr\u00e8s on\u00e9reux.<\/p>\n

\u201c Je pense que le plus grand d\u00e9fi du Type 01 r\u00e9side dans le fait qu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique. Ce n\u2019est pas une opinion personnelle de ma part ; c\u2019est simplement une r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Si l\u2019on regarde toutes les supercars \u00e9lectriques, personne ne semble en vouloir. Les acheteurs de supercars ne se soucient pas de la consommation de carburant, \u00e7a ne fait aucun doute. \u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018 Ils ont tendance \u00e0 cibler une tranche d\u2019\u00e2ge bien pr\u00e9cise, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement plus \u00e2g\u00e9e. Ce ne sont pas des jeunes de 25 ans, mais plut\u00f4t des personnes de 65 ans, issues d\u2019une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pour laquelle le bruit du moteur et le changement de vitesse rev\u00eatent une grande importance. Cela ne durera pas \u00e9ternellement, mais c\u2019est une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui \u201d, conclut Callum.<\/p>\n

Callum soul\u00e8ve peut-\u00eatre l\u00e0 un point important. Les dirigeants ont longuement \u00e9voqu\u00e9 les difficult\u00e9s li\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019introduction des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques sur le march\u00e9 des voitures de haute performance. Bentley et Rolls-Royce ont toutes deux fait marche arri\u00e8re ces derniers temps ; Mate Rimac, PDG de Bugatti-Rimac, qui propose une hypercar \u00e9lectrique, a r\u00e9cemment d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que les acheteurs n\u2019\u00e9taient tout simplement pas int\u00e9ress\u00e9s par les hypercars \u00e9lectriques pour le moment.<\/p>\n

Stephan Winkelmann, PDG de Lamborghini, a fait une remarque similaire, les qualifiant de \u2018 passe-temps co\u00fbteux \u00bb, et lorsque Ferrari a r\u00e9cemment lanc\u00e9 son premier mod\u00e8le enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectrique, Internet a litt\u00e9ralement explos\u00e9 de commentaires peu \u00e9logieux.<\/p>\n

L\u2019avenir du premier v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique haut de gamme de Jaguar reste donc tr\u00e8s incertain. Il ne nous reste plus qu\u2019\u00e0 attendre de voir si le charme de la marque Jaguar sera suffisamment fort pour convaincre non seulement les acheteurs les plus fortun\u00e9s, mais aussi les plus capricieux.<\/p>\n
