Les esp\u00e8ces typiques des eaux froides, telles que la crevette brune, les gobies et le hareng ou l'\u00e9perlan, sont d\u00e9sormais beaucoup moins abondantes, tandis que les esp\u00e8ces d'eaux chaudes (comme le petit poisson-scorpion venimeux) et les ct\u00e9naires prosp\u00e8rent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">C'est ce que r\u00e9v\u00e8lent les recherches men\u00e9es par le biologiste Ward Stellamans (KU Leuven) en collaboration avec l'Institut maritime flamand (Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee, VLIZ).<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Poisson-vache<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Autrefois, on trouvait en abondance des crevettes brunes dans les eaux c\u00f4ti\u00e8res peu profondes ; aujourd'hui, celles-ci regorgent de petits poissons-vip\u00e8res, d'esp\u00e8ces exotiques et de m\u00e9duses. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Quiconque s'aventurerait aujourd'hui dans les eaux peu profondes le long de notre c\u00f4te ferait bien de faire preuve de prudence, car le poisson-scorpion mineur, une esp\u00e8ce venimeuse, est bien plus fr\u00e9quent dans les eaux c\u00f4ti\u00e8res qu'il y a 30 ans. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Selon Stellamans, la faune des plages a radicalement chang\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>En d\u2019autres termes, la zone de ressac belge, que l\u2019on appelle la \u201c p\u00e9pini\u00e8re de la mer \u201d et qui s\u2019\u00e9tend de la ligne de flottaison jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une profondeur d\u2019environ la hauteur des hanches, \u00e9volue plus rapidement et de mani\u00e8re plus visible que la haute mer.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201c Plusieurs esp\u00e8ces utilisent cette zone pour se d\u00e9velopper \u201d, explique Jan Seys, du VLIZ, \u00e0 HLN et VTM. \u201c Or, c'est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment l\u00e0 que l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me subit la pression du tourisme, du d\u00e9veloppement c\u00f4tier et du changement climatique. \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Comparaison<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Pendant onze ans, l'\u00e9quipe de recherche a recueilli des donn\u00e9es le long de la c\u00f4te. Quatre fois par an, des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles tiraient des filets maillants dans les eaux peu profondes pour d\u00e9couvrir quelles esp\u00e8ces ils allaient y trouver. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Leurs conclusions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 compar\u00e9es \u00e0 des donn\u00e9es historiques datant de 1996 et 1997, recueillies par la chercheuse Bregje Beyst (Universit\u00e9 de Gand). \u00ab Les r\u00e9sultats sont spectaculaires \u00bb, d\u00e9clare Jan Seys, du VLIZ.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Une mer appauvrie<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Les esp\u00e8ces d'eau froide, en particulier, sont durement touch\u00e9es.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Par exemple, la population de crevettes grises a diminu\u00e9 d'au moins 78 %. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Les stocks de bar et de plie restent stables pour l'instant, tandis que ceux d'autres esp\u00e8ces affichent une hausse marqu\u00e9e. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Le poisson-scorpion mineur est aujourd'hui 24 fois plus r\u00e9pandu qu'\u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1990. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Par ailleurs, deux nouvelles esp\u00e8ces ont \u00e9galement fait leur apparition : la m\u00e9duse-peigne am\u00e9ricaine et le crabe nageur gris de l'Atlantique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">En conclusion, on constate que la mer s'est appauvrie et s'est r\u00e9chauff\u00e9e, et qu'elle abrite aujourd'hui beaucoup plus de ct\u00e9naires qu'auparavant. Ces animaux ne sont pas dangereux pour l'homme, mais ils consomment d'\u00e9normes quantit\u00e9s de plancton, ce qui peut entra\u00eener une baisse de la productivit\u00e9 marine.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Une eau de mer plus chaude<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">La temp\u00e9rature de l'eau de la plage est \u00e9galement source d'inqui\u00e9tude. Une temp\u00e9rature de 23,4 degr\u00e9s a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9e, ce qui est extr\u00eamement \u00e9lev\u00e9. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201d Les esp\u00e8ces qui disparaissent d\u2019ici pourraient bien se d\u00e9placer vers des eaux plus profondes et plus froides. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Un pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent rapport de synth\u00e8se de LifeWatch\/VLIZ avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 soulign\u00e9 que la mer du Nord s'\u00e9tait r\u00e9chauff\u00e9e d'environ +1,7 \u00b0C en un demi-si\u00e8cle, soit environ le double de la moyenne mondiale pour les oc\u00e9ans et les mers.<\/p>\n<p>L'Agence europ\u00e9enne pour l'environnement (AEE) inscrit les r\u00e9sultats belges dans une tendance europ\u00e9enne plus large : dans la mer du Nord et la mer Celtique, les esp\u00e8ces de poissons pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant les eaux chaudes repr\u00e9sentent d\u00e9sormais 64% de la composition des esp\u00e8ces, d\u00e9passant les esp\u00e8ces pr\u00e9f\u00e9rant les eaux froides depuis la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980, ce qui pr\u00e9sente une corr\u00e9lation positive avec la temp\u00e9rature de surface de la mer.<\/p>\n<h4>Le calendrier de Sea<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Les scientifiques ont \u00e9galement constat\u00e9 que le \u00ab calendrier \u00bb marin avait chang\u00e9 : certaines esp\u00e8ces apparaissent plus t\u00f4t ou plus tard qu'auparavant, ce qui perturbe le fragile \u00e9quilibre de l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Selon les chercheurs, il est essentiel de poursuivre le suivi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Le changement climatique semble \u00eatre un facteur d\u00e9terminant du r\u00e9chauffement de l'eau de mer et des modifications de la faune, mais ce n'est pas le seul. D'autres facteurs, tels que la pression de la p\u00eache, l'\u00e9volution des pr\u00e9dateurs, les prises accessoires, la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration des plages, le dragage, les infrastructures portuaires, les nutriments, les changements dans la composition du plancton, la pression touristique et les esp\u00e8ces envahissantes, jouent \u00e9galement un r\u00f4le important.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biodiversity in Belgian coastal waters has changed fundamentally over the past few decades due to global warming.
