Provost a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que Renault r\u00e9alisait d\u00e9sormais des marges positives sur sa nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de voitures \u00e9lectriques compactes, notamment la Renault 5, la Renault 4 et la future Twingo.<\/p>\n<h4>Difficile \u00e0 rentabiliser<\/h4>\n<p>C'est une affirmation de poids. Depuis des d\u00e9cennies, le secteur automobile part du principe que les petites voitures sont indispensables pour assurer le volume des ventes et la visibilit\u00e9 de la marque, mais qu'elles sont difficiles \u00e0 rentabiliser.<\/p>\n<p>Ce sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement les voitures de grande taille, les SUV et les mod\u00e8les haut de gamme qui g\u00e9n\u00e9raient les marges les plus importantes. Renault affirme aujourd\u2019hui que cette r\u00e8gle peut \u00eatre remise en cause, \u00e0 condition que les cycles de d\u00e9veloppement soient plus courts, que les plateformes soient plus simples et que la production soit rigoureusement contr\u00f4l\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Cette d\u00e9claration renforce \u00e9galement la position de M. Provost \u00e0 Bruxelles. Renault ne demande pas \u00e0 l'Europe de renoncer \u00e0 l'\u00e9lectrification.<\/p>\n<p>Au contraire, le dernier plan strat\u00e9gique du groupe, \u00ab futuREady \u00bb, s'articule autour de 36 nouveaux mod\u00e8les d'ici 2030, dont 22 destin\u00e9s au march\u00e9 europ\u00e9en et 16 enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectriques. Renault vise \u00e9galement une marge op\u00e9rationnelle du groupe comprise entre 5% et 7% et un flux de tr\u00e9sorerie disponible moyen dans le secteur automobile d'au moins 1,5 milliard d'euros par an.<\/p>\n<h4>Plus r\u00e9aliste d'un point de vue industriel<\/h4>\n<p>La diff\u00e9rence r\u00e9side dans le fait que M. Provost souhaite que l'Europe rende cette transition plus r\u00e9aliste sur le plan industriel. Il a d\u00e9j\u00e0 averti qu'aucun constructeur europ\u00e9en ne serait en mesure d'atteindre les objectifs de r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de CO\u2082 fix\u00e9s pour 2030 concernant les voitures et les utilitaires l\u00e9gers, tels qu'ils sont actuellement d\u00e9finis.<\/p>\n<p>Il a par ailleurs appel\u00e9 \u00e0 davantage de souplesse. Dans l'interview accord\u00e9e aux Echos, son message est plus g\u00e9n\u00e9ral : l'industrie automobile europ\u00e9enne lutte pour sa survie, et la r\u00e9glementation devrait lui apporter de la stabilit\u00e9 plut\u00f4t que de lui imposer sans cesse de nouvelles contraintes.<\/p>\n<p>Cela place Renault dans une situation politiquement d\u00e9licate, notamment en France. Paris figure parmi les <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/fr\/2026\/06\/30\/seven-eu-states-oppose-further-easing-of-co%e2%82%82-targets\/\">sept \u00c9tats membres de l'UE qui ont r\u00e9cemment mis en garde Bruxelles<\/a> contre tout nouvel assouplissement du cadre relatif aux \u00e9missions de CO\u2082 pour les voitures neuves \u00e0 l'horizon 2035.<\/p>\n<h4>La France s'en tient aux r\u00e8gles relatives au CO2<\/h4>\n<p>Aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l'Espagne et de cinq autres pays, la France a fait valoir que l'Europe devait maintenir une trajectoire claire vers l'\u00e9lectrification et \u00e9viter d'\u00e9dulcorer l'objectif imposant aux voitures nouvellement immatricul\u00e9es de ne rejeter aucun gramme de CO\u2082 par kilom\u00e8tre \u00e0 partir de 2035.<\/p>\n<p>Pour le gouvernement fran\u00e7ais, le d\u00e9bat porte sur la pr\u00e9visibilit\u00e9 r\u00e9glementaire, la politique climatique, la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et la planification industrielle.<\/p>\n<p>Si les r\u00e8gles du jeu changent trop souvent, il devient plus difficile de justifier les investissements dans les batteries, les infrastructures de recharge et la production de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. La position fran\u00e7aise se rapproche donc davantage de celle des partisans d\u2019une politique industrielle verte que de la d\u00e9marche men\u00e9e par l\u2019Allemagne, qui vise \u00e0 accorder davantage de place aux technologies de combustion, aux carburants synth\u00e9tiques ou \u00e0 des d\u00e9rogations plus larges.<\/p>\n<h4>Plus de souplesse ?<\/h4>\n<p>La position de M. Provost est plus nuanc\u00e9e. Renault ne souhaite pas relancer tout le d\u00e9bat sur la transition \u00e9lectrique, mais souhaite toutefois moins de chocs r\u00e9glementaires, davantage de marge de man\u0153uvre pour les technologies de transition et plus de temps pour adapter ses flottes et ses usines.<\/p>\n<p>L'entreprise souhaite \u00e9galement que l'Europe impose davantage d'exigences aux constructeurs chinois qui p\u00e9n\u00e8trent le march\u00e9. Selon M. Provost, les constructeurs automobiles chinois ne devraient pas se contenter d'assembler des v\u00e9hicules en Europe, mais \u00e9galement s'approvisionner davantage en composants sur place, car la majeure partie de la valeur d'un v\u00e9hicule est cr\u00e9\u00e9e au sein de la cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement plut\u00f4t que sur la cha\u00eene d'assemblage finale.<\/p>\n<p>La tension est palpable et politiquement d\u00e9licate. La France souhaite que l'Europe reste ferme sur la feuille de route pour 2035, tandis que Renault, premier constructeur automobile du pays et toujours d\u00e9tenu \u00e0 15,01% par l'\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais, estime que cette feuille de route doit gagner en souplesse si l'Europe veut pr\u00e9server son tissu industriel.<\/p>\n<h4>Message politique<\/h4>\n<p>L'argument avanc\u00e9 par Renault concernant la faible marge sur ses petits v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques est donc bien plus qu'un simple d\u00e9tail financier. Il s'agit d'un message politique : l'Europe peut fabriquer des voitures \u00e9lectriques abordables tout en restant rentable, mais seulement si la r\u00e9glementation, la cr\u00e9ation de valeur locale et la comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 industrielle vont dans le m\u00eame sens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">La M\u00e9gane E-Tech et la Sc\u00e9nic E-Tech Electric ont permis \u00e0 Renault de se doter d'une gamme cr\u00e9dible de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques fabriqu\u00e9s en Europe dans les segments des voitures familiales. Mais la Renault 5 rev\u00eat une importance particuli\u00e8re, car elle \u00e9tend le champ d'action \u00e0 un segment de march\u00e9 plus restreint et plus sensible au prix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Si Renault parvient \u00e0 d\u00e9gager de meilleures marges sur ce segment que sur ses v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques plus grands, comme l'affirme M. Provost, cela laisse entendre que les voitures \u00e9lectriques compactes ne sont plus n\u00e9cessairement des v\u00e9hicules de mise en conformit\u00e9 d\u00e9ficitaires.<\/p>\n<p>La Renault 4 et la Twingo permettront de v\u00e9rifier si cette formule peut \u00eatre \u00e9tendue \u00e0 un segment encore plus bas de gamme, o\u00f9 les concurrents chinois devraient exercer la plus forte pression.<\/p>\n<p>La M\u00e9gane et la Sc\u00e9nic ont marqu\u00e9 le point de d\u00e9part de la nouvelle strat\u00e9gie de Renault en mati\u00e8re de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques ; la R5, la R4 et la Twingo permettront de voir si l'Europe est capable de d\u00e9fendre le segment des voitures \u00e9lectriques \u00e0 prix abordable.<\/p>\n<h4>Combler le foss\u00e9<\/h4>\n<p>Si Renault a raison, les petits v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques n'ont plus besoin d'\u00eatre des mod\u00e8les de conformit\u00e9 d\u00e9ficitaires. Ils peuvent devenir le pilier d'une riposte industrielle europ\u00e9enne face \u00e0 la Chine.<\/p>\n<p>Si cette hypoth\u00e8se s'av\u00e8re erron\u00e9e, le d\u00e9bat sur 2035 ne fera que s'envenimer davantage, les gouvernements d\u00e9fendant leurs objectifs climatiques tandis que les constructeurs automobiles mettront en garde contre le fait que ces mesures ne sont plus rentables.<\/p>\n<p>M. Provost tente de combler ce foss\u00e9.
