Samedi, en France, des manifestants ont protest\u00e9 contre la construction du canal Seine-Nord Europe, un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 du projet \u00ab Seine-Escaut \u00bb, un vaste projet de voies navigables int\u00e9rieures visant \u00e0 relier le fleuve fran\u00e7ais aux ports belges et n\u00e9erlandais d'ici 2032.<\/p>\n

Les manifestants s'inqui\u00e8tent tout particuli\u00e8rement de l'impact sur les cours d'eau et les zones humides, ainsi que de la perte de terres agricoles pr\u00e9cieuses ; ils brandissaient des banderoles portant des slogans tels que \u201c Halte au b\u00e9ton \u201d et \u201c L'eau, c'est la vie, pas une source de profit \u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

24 espaces naturels pr\u00e9sentant un int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e9cologique sont concern\u00e9s<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ce canal, long de 107 kilom\u00e8tres et large de 54 m\u00e8tres, qui traverse les d\u00e9partements de l\u2019Oise, de la Somme, Nord et du Pas-de-Calais, est appel\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir un maillon essentiel de la liaison Seine-Escaut, un projet soutenu par l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne visant \u00e0 promouvoir le transport de marchandises par voies navigables int\u00e9rieures, accessible aux bateaux d\u2019une capacit\u00e9 de chargement pouvant atteindre 4 500 tonnes m\u00e9triques.<\/p>\n

Ce projet s'\u00e9tend sur 3 010 hectares et implique le d\u00e9placement de 74 millions de m\u00e8tres cubes de terre, mais selon les manifestants, il affecte \u00e9galement 24 sites naturels pr\u00e9sentant un int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e9cologique.<\/p>\n

\u201c C'est un canal qui co\u00fbte tr\u00e8s cher \u201d, a expliqu\u00e9 le collectif \u00ab M\u00e9ga Canal Non Merci \u00bb, en \u00e9voquant la hausse des co\u00fbts du projet. Initialement, le projet \u00e9tait estim\u00e9 \u00e0 5 milliards d'euros, puis r\u00e9\u00e9valu\u00e9 \u00e0 7 milliards, et selon des estimations plus r\u00e9centes, il d\u00e9passe d\u00e9sormais les 10 milliards d'euros.<\/p>\n

\u201c Mais cela nuit \u00e9galement \u00e0 l\u2019environnement, tant \u00e0 la faune qu\u2019au cycle de l\u2019eau \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le collectif, l\u2019un des organisateurs de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement qui, selon ces derniers, a rassembl\u00e9 3 500 participants. La pr\u00e9fecture, qui avait \u00e9galement mobilis\u00e9 900 agents des forces de l'ordre, a estim\u00e9 ce nombre \u00e0 2 000.<\/p>\n

Les organisateurs remettent \u00e9galement en question la promesse d'un transfert massif du transport routier vers le transport fluvial. Les promoteurs du projet affirment que le canal permet de retirer de la circulation l'\u00e9quivalent de 500 000 camions chaque ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Actuellement, plus de 85% du transport de marchandises en France s'effectue par la route, contre seulement 2 \u00e0 3% par voie navigable. Le transport fluvial \u00e9met 3 \u00e0 5 fois moins de CO\u2082 que le transport routier.<\/p>\n

L'une des plus grandes \u00e9cluses d'Europe<\/h4>\n

Les manifestants avaient concentr\u00e9 leur action sur l'\u00e9cluse d'Oisy-le-Verger, un lieu symbolique puisque c'est l\u00e0 qu'a d\u00e9but\u00e9 la construction de la future \u00e9cluse, l'une des plus grandes d'Europe, apr\u00e8s 50 ans de d\u00e9bats et de controverses.<\/p>\n

Le parcours, long de 107 kilom\u00e8tres, comptera sept \u00e9cluses. L'\u00e9cluse d'Oisy-le-Verger, dont la hauteur de l'ouvrage est de 32 m\u00e8tres et la hauteur de chute de 25 m\u00e8tres, est la deuxi\u00e8me plus haute du canal.<\/p>\n

Le sas, qui mesure 195 m\u00e8tres de long sur 12,5 m\u00e8tres de large, peut accueillir des navires mesurant jusqu'\u00e0 185 m\u00e8tres de long, contre seulement 92 m\u00e8tres pour les \u00e9cluses de l'actuel Canal du Nord.<\/p>\n
