{"id":190071,"date":"2026-07-23T08:05:23","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T06:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=190071"},"modified":"2026-07-23T11:35:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T09:35:33","slug":"indian-startup-claims-rare-earth-free-electric-motor-breakthrough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/fr\/2026\/07\/23\/indian-startup-claims-rare-earth-free-electric-motor-breakthrough\/","title":{"rendered":"Une start-up indienne annonce une avanc\u00e9e majeure dans le domaine des moteurs \u00e9lectriques sans terres rares"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Une start-up de Bengaluru, en Inde, baptis\u00e9e Vimag Labs, vient d'obtenir son cinqui\u00e8me brevet indien pour un moteur \u00e9lectrique fonctionnant sans aucun aimant \u00e0 terres rares, qui utilise \u00e0 la place un logiciel et de l'\u00e9lectronique de puissance pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer son champ magn\u00e9tique.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il s'agit d'une petite entreprise, dont le chiffre d'affaires s'\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 $5 millions, qui s'attaque \u00e0 un probl\u00e8me qui a donn\u00e9 du fil \u00e0 retordre \u00e0 Tesla, GM et tous les grands constructeurs automobiles depuis des ann\u00e9es : comment fabriquer un moteur pour v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique comp\u00e9titif qui ne d\u00e9pende pas de la Chine, comme le rapporte le magazine sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 Electrek.<\/p>\n<h4>Aimants virtuels<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La quasi-totalit\u00e9 des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en circulation utilise un moteur synchrone \u00e0 aimants permanents (PMSM), qui s'appuie sur des aimants fixes en terres rares int\u00e9gr\u00e9s au rotor pour produire un couple. Le moteur synchrone \u00e0 aimants virtuels (VMSM) de Vimag se passe totalement de ces aimants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au contraire, il g\u00e9n\u00e8re et contr\u00f4le le champ magn\u00e9tique du rotor en temps r\u00e9el \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019une \u00e9lectronique de puissance et d\u2019algorithmes de commande exclusifs, tout en conservant une conception sans balais ni bagues collectrices. Le brevet, intitul\u00e9 \u201c Moteur synchrone robuste \u00e0 excitation par transformateur rotatif et son syst\u00e8me de commande \u201d, porte sur l\u2019architecture de base.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selon l'entreprise, cette plateforme offre des performances \u00e9quivalentes, voire sup\u00e9rieures, \u00e0 celles des moteurs \u00e0 aimants permanents, sans recourir \u00e0 ces derniers. Il s'agit l\u00e0 d'une affirmation qui n'a pas encore fait l'objet d'une v\u00e9rification ind\u00e9pendante \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle industrielle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Ce brevet est le fruit de plus de 87 600 heures de travail d'ing\u00e9nierie \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Manish Seth, cofondateur et PDG de Vimag Labs, qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 l'entreprise en septembre 2025. Avec ce brevet, Vimag compte d\u00e9sormais cinq brevets d\u00e9livr\u00e9s, et dix autres brevets ainsi que quinze marques d\u00e9pos\u00e9es sont en cours d'examen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vimag indique mener actuellement des projets pilotes avec des constructeurs de deux-roues et de v\u00e9hicules particuliers, et avoir r\u00e9cemment lev\u00e9 $5 millions dans le cadre d\u2019une lev\u00e9e de fonds de s\u00e9rie A men\u00e9e par Accel, avec la participation de Chakra Growth Fund et de Thinkuvate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elle a \u00e9galement sign\u00e9 un protocole d'accord de fabrication avec Jendamark afin de soutenir son d\u00e9veloppement, et vise les syst\u00e8mes industriels d'une puissance comprise entre 200 kW et 600 kW, ainsi que les applications dans les domaines de la robotique, de la d\u00e9fense et du refroidissement. De grands projets, en somme.<\/p>\n<h4>Ma\u00eetrise de la cha\u00eene logistique<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les chiffres relatifs \u00e0 la cha\u00eene d'approvisionnement expliquent pourquoi un moteur comme celui-ci rev\u00eat une telle importance. Selon l\u2019Agence internationale de l\u2019\u00e9nergie (AIE), la Chine repr\u00e9sentait environ 91% de la production mondiale de raffinage et de s\u00e9paration des terres rares et 94% de la production d\u2019aimants permanents fritt\u00e9s en 2024, soit pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment les aimants utilis\u00e9s dans les moteurs de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. La Chine ne d\u00e9tient qu'environ un tiers des r\u00e9serves mondiales ; son influence provient donc de la transformation, et non des ressources mini\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">P\u00e9kin a su tirer parti de ce levier. En avril 2025, la Chine a impos\u00e9 des contr\u00f4les \u00e0 l\u2019exportation sur sept \u00e9l\u00e9ments de terres rares lourdes et les aimants qui en sont issus ; ces restrictions ont contraint les constructeurs automobiles am\u00e9ricains et europ\u00e9ens \u00e0 r\u00e9duire leur production le temps que les autorisations soient accord\u00e9es. En octobre 2025, la Chine est all\u00e9e plus loin en adoptant une r\u00e8gle de minimis \u201c 0,1% \u201d visant tout produit fabriqu\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger contenant des terres rares d\u2019origine chinoise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le 7 novembre 2025, la Chine a suspendu pour un an cette expansion pr\u00e9vue pour octobre, dans le cadre d'une tr\u00eave commerciale plus large. Les mesures de contr\u00f4le sont suspendues, mais n'ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 supprim\u00e9es, ce qui explique pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment pourquoi les constructeurs automobiles ne rel\u00e2chent pas leurs efforts pour trouver des alternatives.<\/p>\n<h4>Pas seul<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vimag n'est bien s\u00fbr pas la seule entreprise \u00e0 se lancer dans cette qu\u00eate du \u2018 Saint Graal \u2019. Il s'agit d'un pari parmi tant d'autres, et les acteurs historiques disposent de moyens financiers bien plus importants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lors de sa journ\u00e9e des investisseurs 2023, Tesla a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que son moteur de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration n'utiliserait aucun \u00e9l\u00e9ment de terres rares, mais n'a toujours pas confirm\u00e9 de date de production. GM et Stellantis soutiennent Niron Magnetics, une start-up du Minnesota qui fabrique des aimants en nitrure de fer baptis\u00e9s \u2018 Clean Earth \u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La commercialisation du moteur \u2018 iBEE \u2019 sans aimants de Valeo n'est pas pr\u00e9vue avant 2028. Honda a apport\u00e9 son soutien financier \u00e0 Enedym, une entreprise sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e dans le d\u00e9veloppement de moteurs \u00e0 r\u00e9luctance commut\u00e9e. Quant \u00e0 Jaguar Land Rover, elle a investi dans le recyclage des aimants en terres rares \u00e0 titre de mesure de protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le point commun : tout le monde investit, et personne ne propose encore de moteur ne contenant pas de terres rares en production de masse. C'est l\u00e0 que Vimag tente de se positionner.<\/p>\n<h4>Encore au stade pilote<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cet article d\u2019Electrek a suscit\u00e9 de nombreuses r\u00e9actions ; l\u2019une d\u2019entre elles a particuli\u00e8rement retenu notre attention : \u201c L\u2019orientation technologique choisie ici est valable, et le brevet ainsi que le financement sont bien r\u00e9els \u201d, d\u00e9clare \u2018 Stetrain \u2019. \u201c Supprimer l\u2019aimant du rotor \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un champ excit\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re externe et d\u00e9fini par logiciel constitue une approche v\u00e9ritablement diff\u00e9rente de celles bas\u00e9es sur le nitrure de fer et la ferrite que la plupart des acteurs occidentaux poursuivent. Si cela fonctionne \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle, cela permet de contourner la cha\u00eene d\u2019approvisionnement en terres rares au lieu d\u2019essayer de la reconstruire, mais c\u2019est un grand \u201d si \u00bb. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vimag est une entreprise en phase pilote qui dispose d\u2019un moteur destin\u00e9 aux essais en laboratoire et \u00e0 sa flotte, et non d\u2019un moteur de s\u00e9rie. \u201c Les moteurs qui font leurs preuves lors d\u2019un projet pilote ne r\u00e9sistent pas toujours aux tests de co\u00fbt, de durabilit\u00e9 et de rendement lorsqu\u2019ils sont produits en s\u00e9rie \u201d, ajoute Stetrain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c L\u2019affirmation selon laquelle ces technologies \u201c \u00e9galent ou surpassent les performances des aimants permanents \u201d doit \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9e avec prudence tant qu\u2019il n\u2019existe pas de donn\u00e9es de banc d\u2019essai ind\u00e9pendantes. C\u2019est en mati\u00e8re de rendement, et pas seulement de puissance de pointe, que les conceptions sans aimants c\u00e8dent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement du terrain, ce qui a un impact direct sur l\u2019autonomie des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. Il convient toutefois de noter que la p\u00e9nurie de terres rares a rendu l\u2019ensemble de cette cat\u00e9gorie particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressante \u00e0 suivre. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Et Stetrain a \u00e9galement ajout\u00e9 : \u201c Fabriquer des moteurs sans terres rares, c'est facile. De nombreux v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques en sont \u00e9quip\u00e9s ; on parle alors de moteur \u00e0 induction \u00e0 courant alternatif.
