Selon un nouvel article publi\u00e9 par BMWBLOG, qui cite des sources proches du constructeur, BMW pr\u00e9voit de lancer une i4 Cabriolet 100 % \u00e9lectrique en 2028. Il serait logique que BMW concr\u00e9tise \u00e9galement le projet de la i4 Coup\u00e9, dont on parle \u00e9galement.<\/p>\n

Cela permettrait de tirer davantage parti des \u00e9conomies d'\u00e9chelle, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 la part importante des co\u00fbts qui serait r\u00e9partie entre les deux mod\u00e8les. Ces mod\u00e8les \u2018 lifestyle \u2019 seraient calqu\u00e9s sur la i3 \u00ab Neue Klasse \u00bb r\u00e9cemment lanc\u00e9e ; leurs secrets sont donc d\u00e9j\u00e0 en grande partie connus.<\/p>\n

Cabriolets \u00e9lectriques<\/h4>\n

Le segment des cabriolets \u00e9lectriques est pratiquement d\u00e9sert. Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, le seul nouveau cabriolet \u00e9lectrique disponible \u00e0 la vente est la Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, qui co\u00fbte $206 095. Maserati a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 ses concessionnaires am\u00e9ricains d'accorder des remises pouvant aller jusqu'\u00e0 $85 000 sur ses mod\u00e8les \u00e9lectriques Folgore. Ce n'est pas vraiment un march\u00e9 florissant.<\/p>\n

L'Europe en a un peu plus. Fiat commercialise une 500e cabriolet, MG propose le roadster Cyberster en Europe et sur d'autres continents, mais pas aux \u00c9tats-Unis, et la marque Mini, filiale de BMW, a produit 999 exemplaires d'une Cooper SE Cabriolet \u00e9lectrique en 2023, dans le cadre d'une s\u00e9rie limit\u00e9e r\u00e9serv\u00e9e au march\u00e9 europ\u00e9en.<\/p>\n

Tout le reste, \u00e0 l'exception de quelques tentatives men\u00e9es par de tr\u00e8s petites entreprises sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es, a \u00e9t\u00e9 retard\u00e9 ou mis en veilleuse. Polestar a rel\u00e9gu\u00e9 le Roadster 6 au second plan, derri\u00e8re la Polestar 7, sans date pr\u00e9cise. Tesla promet un nouveau Roadster depuis 2017 et vient de repousser une nouvelle fois la pr\u00e9sentation au mois d'ao\u00fbt. Audi a purement et simplement abandonn\u00e9 ses projets de voiture de sport \u00e9lectrique, tout comme ses versions d\u00e9capotables. Personne ne sait ce que Mercedes compte faire dans le domaine de l'\u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n

La S\u00e9rie 4 va-t-elle survivre ?<\/h4>\n

Lors de la pr\u00e9sentation de la berline i3, BMW a confirm\u00e9 qu'avec l'arriv\u00e9e de la nouvelle \u2018 Neue Klasse \u2019 i3 en versions berline et break, il n'\u00e9tait plus n\u00e9cessaire de commercialiser l'i4 Gran Coup\u00e9. Avec l'arriv\u00e9e \u00e9ventuelle d'un coup\u00e9 et d'un cabriolet, dont les noms de code internes sont respectivement NA2 et NA3, la S\u00e9rie 4 finira par survivre.<\/p>\n

Contrairement aux versions ICE actuelles de la S\u00e9rie 4 Gran Coup\u00e9, qui dispara\u00eetront bient\u00f4t du march\u00e9, le Coup\u00e9 et, \u00e0 coup s\u00fbr, le Cabriolet (nom de code G23) continueront d'\u00eatre produits jusqu'\u00e0 la mi-2029, co\u00efncidant ainsi avec l'arriv\u00e9e \u00e9ventuelle des versions \u00e9lectriques i4.<\/p>\n

Une i4 \u2018 Neue Klasse \u2019<\/h4>\n

Les cabriolets sont des voitures plus difficiles \u00e0 construire, d\u2019autant plus lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. Supprimer le toit r\u00e9duit la rigidit\u00e9 structurelle ; on compense cela par un surcro\u00eet de poids, et le poids est l\u2019ennemi de l\u2019autonomie dans une voiture qui embarque d\u00e9j\u00e0 une batterie dans le plancher. C\u2019est ainsi que la Mini Cooper SE Cabriolet s\u2019est retrouv\u00e9e avec une autonomie de \u00b1 200 km.<\/p>\n

C'est pourquoi le moment choisi est crucial. La berline i3 promet une autonomie WLTP pouvant atteindre 900 km gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une architecture de 800 volts et \u00e0 une recharge en courant continu de 400 kW. M\u00eame en tenant compte d\u2019une perte de 15% due au poids suppl\u00e9mentaire et \u00e0 une a\u00e9rodynamique moins favorable lorsque le toit est rabattu, la version cabriolet affiche toujours une autonomie confortable d\u2019environ 700 km.<\/p>\n

Accord naturel<\/h4>\n

C'est exactement le genre de v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique que l'on attend depuis toujours, et BMW est peut-\u00eatre justement le constructeur qu'il faut pour le r\u00e9aliser. Les cabriolets et les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques devraient former un duo naturel. Pas de bruit de moteur, pas de chaleur d'\u00e9chappement. Juste le vent et la musique qui passe \u00e0 la radio. Un v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique d\u00e9capotable offre une meilleure exp\u00e9rience sensorielle qu'une voiture \u00e0 essence d\u00e9capotable, et jusqu'\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, presque personne n'a pris la peine d'en commercialiser un que l'on puisse r\u00e9ellement acheter.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l'instar des mod\u00e8les actuels de la S\u00e9rie 4, l'i4 Coup\u00e9 et l'i4 Cabriolet seront des voitures \u00e0 deux portes pouvant accueillir quatre passagers ; cette derni\u00e8re sera \u00e9quip\u00e9e d'un toit en tissu rabattable ; un toit en acier alourdirait trop le v\u00e9hicule, le rendrait plus complexe et r\u00e9duirait consid\u00e9rablement l'espace d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux bagages.<\/p>\n

Comme elle est con\u00e7ue d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part comme une voiture enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectrique, elle ne sera pas soumise aux contraintes d\u2019agencement propres aux v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 moteur thermique. En th\u00e9orie, cela devrait permettre d\u2019allonger l\u2019empattement en d\u00e9calant les roues plus vers l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur et en r\u00e9duisant les porte-\u00e0-faux. Un \u00e9cart plus important entre les essieux se traduit g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement par un habitacle plus spacieux, ce dont un \u2018 cabriolet 2+2 \u2019 a justement besoin. Les passagers arri\u00e8re des coup\u00e9s et cabriolets actuels ne manqueront pas de le confirmer.<\/p>\n

Les coup\u00e9s et les cabriolets sont devenus des segments \u00e0 faibles volumes en d\u00e9clin constant, et aucun constructeur automobile ne peut plus se permettre d\u2019investir dans une plateforme d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 ces mod\u00e8les. Mais l\u2019approche de BMW en mati\u00e8re de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques contourne ce probl\u00e8me. La marque s\u2019est fermement engag\u00e9e \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer sa technologie \u2018 Neue Klasse \u2019 sur l\u2019ensemble de sa gamme, de sorte que les d\u00e9riv\u00e9s de l\u2019i4 n\u2019ont pas besoin de justifier une plateforme sp\u00e9cifique. Il leur suffit de justifier les variantes de carrosserie.
