Les sp\u00e9culations vont bon train quant \u00e0 l'avenir de la Mazda MX-5 (\u00e9galement connue sous le nom de Miata). Cette (quatri\u00e8me) g\u00e9n\u00e9ration commen\u00e7ant \u00e0 prendre de l'\u00e2ge, Mazda doit la remplacer par un nouveau mod\u00e8le, et de nombreuses rumeurs circulent quant \u00e0 la motorisation de la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n

Et bien qu\u2019aucune motorisation sp\u00e9cifique n\u2019ait encore \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9e pour la Miata de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, le PDG de Mazda, Masahiro Moro, a clairement indiqu\u00e9 que l\u2019\u00e9lectrification faisait partie de son avenir. \u201c Le mod\u00e8le qui lui succ\u00e9dera doit \u00e9galement \u00eatre pr\u00eat pour un sc\u00e9nario sans moteur \u00e0 combustion \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 au magazine automobile allemand *Auto, Motor & Sport*.<\/p>\n

Contradiction<\/h4>\n

On dirait que Moro laisse entendre que la nouvelle MX-5 sera d'abord \u00e9quip\u00e9e d'un moteur \u00e0 pistons, mais qu'elle sera con\u00e7ue pour pouvoir accueillir \u00e0 terme une version \u00e9lectrique. On rel\u00e8ve toutefois certaines contradictions dans les d\u00e9clarations de Mazda \u00e0 ce sujet.<\/p>\n

En mars dernier, le directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des ventes et du marketing mondiaux de Mazda avait d\u00e9clar\u00e9 au site australien GoAuto : \u201c \u00c0 terme, si la technologie le permet, nous envisagerons une \u00e9lectrification compl\u00e8te. Mais pour l\u2019instant, le moteur \u00e0 combustion interne reste la voie \u00e0 suivre. \u201d<\/p>\n

Cependant, en 2025, le magazine Auto Express a d\u00e9couvert des brevets concernant une Mazda MX-5 \u00e9quip\u00e9e de batteries log\u00e9es dans le tunnel de transmission. Cela semblerait indiquer que Mazda utilise un ch\u00e2ssis classique de voiture \u00e0 moteur thermique, mais capable d'accueillir des batteries destin\u00e9es \u00e0 de futurs groupes motopropulseurs.<\/p>\n

On dirait que Mazda souhaite toujours construire une voiture de sport traditionnelle, mais capable de s'adapter \u00e0 l'\u00e9lectrification le moment venu. Heureusement, le poids \u2013 ou plut\u00f4t la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 \u2013 reste la priorit\u00e9 absolue de Mazda, car c\u2019est l\u00e0 l\u2019essence m\u00eame de ce que la MX-5, ou Miata, a toujours incarn\u00e9 : une deux places l\u00e9g\u00e8re et agile qui n\u2019a pas besoin de gros moteurs ni de puissance pour offrir un plaisir de conduite en toutes circonstances.<\/p>\n

Le poids, c'est l'ennemi<\/h4>\n

Le probl\u00e8me des voitures enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectriques r\u00e9side dans le poids de la batterie, ce qui est particuli\u00e8rement crucial pour une petite voiture qui se veut un mod\u00e8le de maniabilit\u00e9 sur la route.<\/p>\n

\u201c Le d\u00e9fi pour nous consiste \u00e0 all\u00e9ger la structure de base sans recourir \u00e0 des mat\u00e9riaux exotiques comme la fibre de carbone \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Moro au magazine *Auto Motor und Sport*. \u201c L\u2019objectif de poids fix\u00e9 aux d\u00e9veloppeurs se situe entre un peu moins de 1 000 et 1 200 kilogrammes. Et je pense que nous pouvons y parvenir. \u201d<\/p>\n

C'est \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s le m\u00eame poids que la Miata actuelle. Si Mazda parvient \u00e0 proposer une version \u00e9lectrique dont le poids \u00e0 vide serait m\u00eame proche de celui de la Miata actuelle, ce serait une r\u00e9ussite monumentale.<\/p>\n

Pas de plateforme typique pour v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques<\/h4>\n

Mazda ne serait pas la premi\u00e8re marque \u00e0 installer ses batteries dans le tunnel de transmission et, \u00e9ventuellement, sous le capot. Maserati proc\u00e8de ainsi sur la GranTurismo Folgore, avec un bloc-batterie en forme de T dont la majeure partie se trouve sous le capot, pr\u00e8s de la cloison, et le reste dans le tunnel de transmission.<\/p>\n

Non seulement cela permet de conserver une r\u00e9partition traditionnelle du poids, contrairement \u00e0 la conception habituelle des batteries de skateboard, mais cela permet \u00e9galement au conducteur de s'asseoir plus bas que dans la plupart des v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques, puisqu'il n'a pas \u00e0 s'asseoir au-dessus du bloc-batterie. Pour un mod\u00e8le comme la Miata, cela semble plus logique qu'une plateforme de v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique classique.<\/p>\n

Attendons de voir<\/h4>\n

On ne conna\u00eet pas encore de calendrier pr\u00e9cis quant \u00e0 la date de lancement \u00e9ventuel d\u2019une Miata \u00e9lectrique. On ne peut qu\u2019esp\u00e9rer que ce soit le plus t\u00f4t possible. Si Mazda parvient r\u00e9ellement \u00e0 atteindre ses objectifs en mati\u00e8re de poids et d\u2019\u00e9quilibre, tout en offrant la puissance instantan\u00e9e d\u2019un groupe motopropulseur \u00e9lectrique, une Miata \u00e9lectrique pourrait \u00eatre une voiture de sport vraiment exceptionnelle.<\/p>\n

D\u00e8s ses d\u00e9buts (1989-1997), la Mazda MX-5 \u2018 Miata \u2019 (nom de code NA) s\u2019est distingu\u00e9e par ce qu\u2019elle \u00e9tait cens\u00e9e \u00eatre : une petite roadster abordable et l\u00e9g\u00e8re, \u00e9quip\u00e9e d\u2019un petit moteur essence quatre cylindres de 1,6 litre d\u00e9veloppant 116 hp, capable de ravir son conducteur dans presque toutes les conditions de conduite, et en particulier sur les routes de campagne sinueuses o\u00f9 la tenue de route et l\u2019agilit\u00e9 priment sur la puissance brute.<\/p>\n

Avec la deuxi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration (NB, 1998-2005) et la troisi\u00e8me (NC, 2006-2014), la MX-5 a perdu un peu de son charme d'origine car elle est devenue (l\u00e9g\u00e8rement) plus grande, a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9quip\u00e9e de moteurs plus puissants et, surtout, a pris du poids, sans compter l'ajout d'une version avec un toit en acier rabattable, qui a encore alourdi le v\u00e9hicule.<\/p>\n

Heureusement, avec la quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration (ND, 2015-?) Mazda a souhait\u00e9 revenir \u00e0 ses racines et a habill\u00e9 d\u2019une superbe carrosserie (design Kodo) une petite voiture de sport \u00e0 nouveau compacte et l\u00e9g\u00e8re, dont le moteur de 1,5 litre d\u00e9veloppant 131 hp offrait des performances suffisantes, m\u00eame si, hors d\u2019Europe, le mod\u00e8le n\u2019est disponible qu\u2019avec un moteur de 2 litres d\u00e9veloppant 160 hp.<\/p>\n

La prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, la cinqui\u00e8me (NE), sera donc probablement lanc\u00e9e avec un moteur essence SkyActiv Z, tr\u00e8s certainement associ\u00e9 \u00e0 une hybridation (modeste ?). Son lancement n'aura pas lieu avant 2028 ; la version \u00e9lectrique suivra par la suite.<\/p>\n
