Son prototype fonctionnant \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne a roul\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois par ses propres moyens, effectuant plusieurs tours de piste \u00e0 l\u2019Eastech Park de Louvain. Il s\u2019agirait ainsi de la premi\u00e8re voiture de course belge en \u00e9tat de marche \u00e9quip\u00e9e d\u2019un moteur \u00e0 combustion fonctionnant \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>Cette voiture associe un ch\u00e2ssis de course Radical \u00e0 un moteur V6 Ford EcoBoost de 3,5 litres modifi\u00e9. Il y a un an, HydroTeam avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 faire fonctionner ce moteur \u00e0 l'hydrog\u00e8ne, mais uniquement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une alimentation en carburant externe.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-192712\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/hydroteam-reveal-blog_6c0c164bd2b597ee32b68b8b5755bd2e.jpeg?resize=640%2C853&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>La derni\u00e8re version int\u00e8gre l'ensemble du syst\u00e8me \u00e0 bord, notamment le stockage d'hydrog\u00e8ne, la r\u00e9gulation de pression, l'\u00e9lectronique, le refroidissement et la cha\u00eene cin\u00e9matique.<\/p>\n<p>L'hydrog\u00e8ne est stock\u00e9 \u00e0 700 bars et sa pression est ramen\u00e9e \u00e0 environ 5 bars avant d'atteindre le moteur. Avant son installation, le syst\u00e8me a d'abord \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9 avec de l'azote, puis soumis \u00e0 un essai de pression allant jusqu'\u00e0 875 bars dans une cuve d'essai sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e du centre de recherche sur l'acier OCAS. La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d'inspection Vin\u00e7otte a ensuite homologu\u00e9 l'installation.<\/p>\n<p>Cela conf\u00e8re \u00e0 cette r\u00e9alisation une importance bien plus grande que le simple fait de faire d\u00e9marrer un moteur. Huit \u00e9tudiants \u00e0 temps plein, \u00e9paul\u00e9s par des dizaines de collaborateurs \u00e0 temps partiel, ont en effet transform\u00e9 une voiture de course existante en un laboratoire mobile d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 l'hydrog\u00e8ne. HydroTeam souhaite \u00e9galement que ce projet devienne une plateforme de recherche plus large au sein de la KU Leuven.<\/p>\n<h4>Ce n'est pas tout \u00e0 fait une premi\u00e8re mondiale<\/h4>\n<p>Il convient toutefois de nuancer l'une des affirmations relatives \u00e0 ce projet. Selon certains articles, HydroTeam serait la premi\u00e8re \u00e9quipe \u00e9tudiante au monde \u00e0 avoir r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 faire rouler une voiture de course fonctionnant \u00e0 l'hydrog\u00e8ne. Cette affirmation semble toutefois trop g\u00e9n\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n<p>L'\u00e9quipe KA-RaceIng de l'Institut de technologie de Karlsruhe (KIT) a d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait courir sa voiture de Formule \u00c9tudiant \u00e0 combustion \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne, la KIT25h, en 2025. Elle a remport\u00e9 la cat\u00e9gorie \u00ab combustion \u00bb lors de la Formula Future, puis a pris le d\u00e9part de la Formula Student Austria, o\u00f9 l'\u00e9quipe a particip\u00e9 aux \u00e9preuves dynamiques avec cette voiture \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet de Louvain semble toujours m\u00e9riter le label \u00ab une premi\u00e8re en Belgique \u00bb, et son envergure ainsi que son ambition sont hors du commun. HydroTeam ne vise pas uniquement la comp\u00e9tition Formula Student. L'\u00e9quipe souhaite d\u00e9velopper un mod\u00e8le de successeur de type GT, \u00e9tablir des temps au tour officiels \u00e0 Spa-Francorchamps, participer \u00e0 une premi\u00e8re course en ao\u00fbt 2027 et, \u00e0 terme, concourir au Mans en 2030.<\/p>\n<h4>Toyota et Alpine ont plusieurs tours d'avance<\/h4>\n<p>Cet objectif dernier place le projet \u00e9tudiant en concurrence avec des programmes consacr\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne bien plus aboutis. Le JS2 RH2 de Bosch et Ligier d\u00e9veloppe d\u00e9j\u00e0 443 kW, soit environ 602 hp, et 650 Nm gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son moteur \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne biturbo de 3,0 litres. Il a d\u00e9pass\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs reprises les 280 km\/h et a effectu\u00e9 plus de 5 000 kilom\u00e8tres d\u2019essais intensifs sur circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine est all\u00e9e encore plus loin. Son mod\u00e8le Alpenglow Hy6 est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un V6 \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne biturbo de 3,5 litres sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7u pour ce mod\u00e8le, d\u00e9veloppant 544 kW (740 ch) et 770 Nm. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne stock\u00e9 \u00e0 700 bars, il peut d\u00e9passer les 330 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Et Toyota travaille d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 la prochaine \u00e9tape. Au Mans, en juin, son prototype de course TR LH2 est devenu le premier prototype \u00e0 moteur \u00e0 combustion fonctionnant \u00e0 l'hydrog\u00e8ne liquide \u00e0 rouler en public sur le Circuit de la Sarthe.<\/p>\n<h4>Le Mans change la donne<\/h4>\n<p>C'est peut-\u00eatre l\u00e0 que r\u00e9side le plus grand d\u00e9fi technique d'HydroTeam. La FIA a choisi l'hydrog\u00e8ne liquide pour les futurs prototypes \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne du Mans, tout en autorisant \u00e0 la fois les groupes motopropulseurs \u00e0 pile \u00e0 combustible et ceux \u00e0 combustion d'hydrog\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>L'hydrog\u00e8ne liquide offre une densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique volum\u00e9trique sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de l'hydrog\u00e8ne gazeux comprim\u00e9, mais n\u00e9cessite des r\u00e9servoirs cryog\u00e9niques \u00e0 -253 \u00b0C ainsi qu'une architecture de stockage et de ravitaillement totalement diff\u00e9rente.<\/p>\n<p>Le calendrier a \u00e9galement \u00e9volu\u00e9 en faveur d\u2019HydroTeam. Une cat\u00e9gorie d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne \u00e9tait initialement pr\u00e9vue pour 2028, mais la FIA et le WEC annoncent d\u00e9sormais que l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne sera introduit en 2030, pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment l\u2019ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 les \u00e9tudiants de Louvain esp\u00e8rent prendre le d\u00e9part. Le prototype actuel, bas\u00e9 sur la Radical, ne doit donc pas \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme la voiture qui courra finalement au Mans. Il s'agit de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape d'une s\u00e9rie de v\u00e9hicules d'exp\u00e9rimentation.<\/p>\n<p>Une nouvelle promotion de treize \u00e9tudiants a d\u00e9sormais pris le relais : des tours de d\u00e9monstration sont pr\u00e9vus sur le circuit Bugatti du Mans le 9 septembre, et le d\u00e9veloppement d'une nouvelle voiture de course \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne de type GT devrait d\u00e9buter dans le courant de l'ann\u00e9e.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KU Leuven\u2019s HydroTeam has reached an important milestone on its road to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
