La ministre flamande de la Mobilit\u00e9, Annick De Ridder (NV-A), a publi\u00e9 les premi\u00e8res donn\u00e9es de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 issues des trois premiers mois d'utilisation du syst\u00e8me de conduite autonome supervis\u00e9e de Tesla sur les routes belges. Ces r\u00e9sultats encourageants ne font \u00e9tat que de cinq incidents mineurs. Dans le m\u00eame temps, le syst\u00e8me FSD a connu son mois le plus meurtrier aux \u00c9tats-Unis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Depuis juin, les propri\u00e9taires de Tesla \u00e9quip\u00e9es du syst\u00e8me FSD sont autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 utiliser la fonction de conduite autonome en Flandre. Cette autorisation a d\u00e9j\u00e0 permis de recueillir des donn\u00e9es int\u00e9ressantes, ces v\u00e9hicules ayant parcouru environ 24,6 millions de kilom\u00e8tres, selon les chiffres pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s par la ministre de la Mobilit\u00e9, Annick De Ridder.<\/p>\n

Petite \u00e9gratignure<\/h4>\n

Entre le 11 juin et le 31 ao\u00fbt, seuls cinq incidents ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9s, dont un seul devait faire l'objet d'un rapport officiel : un l\u00e9ger accrochage au cours duquel le pilote aurait d\u00e9sactiv\u00e9 le pilote automatique peu avant la collision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Les quatre autres \u00e9taient ce que le ministre a qualifi\u00e9 d\u201c\u201d accidents tr\u00e8s l\u00e9gers \u00bb, comme le fait qu\u2019un guidon de v\u00e9lo effleure une porte. Aucun d\u2019entre eux ne devait \u00eatre signal\u00e9 \u00e0 la police, et la plupart impliquaient des tiers.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 titre de comparaison, les Tesla non autonomes ont parcouru 147 millions de kilom\u00e8tres au cours de la m\u00eame p\u00e9riode et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 impliqu\u00e9es dans 150 collisions devant faire l'objet d'un signalement. De Ridder en a conclu qu'en dehors des autoroutes, les Tesla autonomes pr\u00e9sentaient un risque d'accident pr\u00e8s de dix fois inf\u00e9rieur, tandis que sur les autoroutes, cette r\u00e9duction \u00e9tait d'environ 30%.<\/p>\n

Vote officiel<\/h4>\n

Ces premi\u00e8res donn\u00e9es indiquent que les premiers essais se d\u00e9roulent bien. Les machines obtiennent de meilleurs r\u00e9sultats que les humains, ce qui confirme la validit\u00e9 de cette technologie. Ces conclusions sont cruciales, alors que l'Europe s'appr\u00eate \u00e0 se prononcer officiellement, le 6 octobre, sur l'autorisation g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e de la conduite autonome compl\u00e8te (FSD), qui est actuellement autoris\u00e9e dans plusieurs \u00c9tats membres en raison d'une lacune juridique.<\/p>\n

Les pays scandinaves appellent \u00e0 voter contre, tandis que les grandes nations comme la France et l'Allemagne, qui jouent un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif dans le vote, restent prudentes.<\/p>\n

Mais face aux premiers r\u00e9sultats prometteurs observ\u00e9s en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas, une autre image, bien plus sombre, du syst\u00e8me FSD se dessine. En juillet, l'agence am\u00e9ricaine NHTSA a enregistr\u00e9 le plus grand nombre d'accidents li\u00e9s au syst\u00e8me FSD jamais recens\u00e9s en un mois.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Au total, 236 accidents li\u00e9s au syst\u00e8me de conduite autonome (FSD) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 signal\u00e9s. Quatre d'entre eux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mortels, causant la mort de sept personnes.<\/p>\n

Les deux facettes du probl\u00e8me<\/h4>\n

Dans le Maryland, une Tesla Model 3 effectuant un virage \u00e0 gauche sans protection n'a pas c\u00e9d\u00e9 le passage \u00e0 une moto, causant la mort de trois personnes. \u00c0 San Mateo, une Model S a quitt\u00e9 la route, a percut\u00e9 un lampadaire et a pris feu, entra\u00eenant la mort du conducteur. \u00c0 Ione, une Model Y a franchi la ligne m\u00e9diane et est entr\u00e9e en collision frontale avec un autre v\u00e9hicule, causant la mort de son conducteur \u00e2g\u00e9 de 25 ans. Seul un accident survenu dans le Minnesota s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9 diff\u00e9remment : il s'agissait d'une collision dans une zone de travaux routiers impliquant une Ford qui roulait, selon les informations, \u00e0 contresens. Mais le syst\u00e8me FSD \u00e9tait activ\u00e9 sur la Tesla.<\/p>\n

Le probl\u00e8me est double. Les statistiques montrent que le nombre d'accidents li\u00e9s \u00e0 la conduite autonome (FSD) aux \u00c9tats-Unis est en hausse, passant de 82 au cours du m\u00eame mois l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re \u00e0 pr\u00e8s du triple cette ann\u00e9e. Si le syst\u00e8me automatis\u00e9 s'am\u00e9liore gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'apprentissage tir\u00e9 d'un kilom\u00e9trage plus important, les chiffres brossent toutefois un tableau diff\u00e9rent.<\/p>\n

Par ailleurs, Tesla ne communique pas de donn\u00e9es sur ces incidents afin de prot\u00e9ger son mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique. C'est ce m\u00eame argument qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 avanc\u00e9 pour expliquer pourquoi l'entreprise n'avait pas rendu publiques les donn\u00e9es d'essai avant l'homologation aux Pays-Bas, ce qui a entra\u00een\u00e9 une r\u00e9action en cha\u00eene au moment du d\u00e9ploiement. Il est donc difficile de d\u00e9terminer avec pr\u00e9cision dans quelle mesure le syst\u00e8me a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le dans ces incidents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Quoi qu'il en soit, pratiquement aucun autre constructeur automobile ne fait preuve d'autant de discr\u00e9tion concernant ses donn\u00e9es relatives \u00e0 la conduite autonome.<\/p>\n

Diff\u00e9rents syst\u00e8mes<\/h4>\n

Cela dit, les versions am\u00e9ricaine et europ\u00e9enne du FSD ne sont pas directement comparables. Ni sur le plan logiciel, ni sur le plan r\u00e9glementaire. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, Tesla op\u00e8re dans le cadre d\u2019un r\u00e9gime d\u2019autocertification assorti d\u2019une surveillance apr\u00e8s commercialisation. Le logiciel propose des profils de conduite plus agressifs. La configuration europ\u00e9enne pr\u00e9voit une surveillance continue et plus stricte du conducteur via des cam\u00e9ras install\u00e9es dans l\u2019habitacle, exige que les mains restent libres pour pouvoir reprendre imm\u00e9diatement le contr\u00f4le du v\u00e9hicule et adopte par d\u00e9faut un comportement de conduite plus prudent. Par exemple, si le conducteur consulte son t\u00e9l\u00e9phone, le syst\u00e8me \u00e9met des avertissements et finit par se d\u00e9sactiver.<\/p>\n

Cet essai belge fonctionne parce que les autorit\u00e9s de r\u00e9gulation europ\u00e9ennes ont refus\u00e9 que Tesla utilise les voies publiques comme laboratoire.
