Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, Renault a progressivement transform\u00e9 son monospace pionnier, l\u2019Espace, en SUV. Aujourd\u2019hui, le constructeur semble remettre en question cette d\u00e9cision. Le nouveau concept-car \u00e9lectrique E-Space renoue avec les proportions \u00ab one-box \u00bb, l\u2019habitacle spacieux et la philosophie ax\u00e9e sur la famille du mod\u00e8le original de 1984.<\/p>\n

Ce concept sera pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au grand public pour la premi\u00e8re fois au Salon de l'automobile de Paris, le 12 octobre. Pour l'instant, Renault ne d\u00e9voile qu'une partie de ses cartes, mais ce qu'il a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 est significatif : l'E-Space n'est pas un simple SUV \u00e9lectrique de grande taille de plus.<\/p>\n

Au contraire, Renault le d\u00e9crit explicitement comme une r\u00e9interpr\u00e9tation du monospace, avec une garde au sol relativement faible, une ligne de ceinture basse et un pare-brise qui s'\u00e9tend de mani\u00e8re presque homog\u00e8ne depuis le capot court. Avec ses 4,70 m\u00e8tres de long, 2,02 m\u00e8tres de large et 1,67 m\u00e8tre de haut, il occupe presque exactement le m\u00eame espace sur la route que l'Espace SUV actuel.<\/p>\n

Retour aux origines d'Espace<\/h4>\n

\u00c0 l'int\u00e9rieur, six si\u00e8ges individuels sont dispos\u00e9s sur trois rang\u00e9es, sur un plancher enti\u00e8rement plat. Les si\u00e8ges peuvent pivoter l\u00e9g\u00e8rement pour faciliter l'acc\u00e8s, tandis que d'autres configurations transforment l'habitacle en un espace de d\u00e9tente autour d'une grande table.<\/p>\n

En d'autres termes, Renault revient \u00e0 la philosophie qui avait fait de la premi\u00e8re Espace un mod\u00e8le r\u00e9volutionnaire en 1984 : optimiser l'espace utile dans un gabarit relativement compact, plut\u00f4t que d'habiller un habitacle classique d'un style SUV.<\/p>\n

Ce timing n'est peut-\u00eatre pas le fruit du hasard. Renault avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 admis, il y a plus de deux ans, qu'il envisageait de relancer un monospace Espace enti\u00e8rement \u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n

En avril 2024, Olivier Brosse, alors responsable de la plateforme \u00e9lectrique AmpR Medium de Renault, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e0 Autocar qu\u2019un tel mod\u00e8le \u00e9tait \u201c une option que nous envisageons \u201d.<\/p>\n

Selon lui, la grande question n'\u00e9tait pas de savoir si Renault \u00e9tait capable d'en construire un, mais si les acheteurs europ\u00e9ens seraient pr\u00eats \u00e0 accepter \u00e0 nouveau un monospace. Le concept E-Space semble d\u00e9sormais \u00eatre, pour ainsi dire, le moyen pour Renault de tester la r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 cette question pr\u00e9cise.<\/p>\n

Les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques pourraient offrir une nouvelle chance aux monospaces<\/h4>\n

L'\u00e9lectrification rend \u00e9galement ce format plus int\u00e9ressant qu'il ne l'\u00e9tait \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque des moteurs \u00e0 combustion. Une batterie plate log\u00e9e sous le plancher et des moteurs \u00e9lectriques compacts permettent de rapprocher plus facilement les roues des angles et de consacrer une plus grande partie de la longueur du v\u00e9hicule aux passagers.<\/p>\n

Parall\u00e8lement, la future technologie \u00e9lectrique de Renault se positionne sur le haut de gamme. Dans le cadre de sa nouvelle strat\u00e9gie \u00ab futuREady \u00bb, la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de mod\u00e8les \u00e9lectriques des segments C et D reposera sur la nouvelle architecture RGEV Medium 2.0.<\/p>\n

Cette plateforme de 800 volts est con\u00e7ue pour des v\u00e9hicules allant du segment B+ au segment D et, selon Renault, peut s'adapter \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents types de carrosserie. En version 100 % \u00e9lectrique, elle vise une autonomie pouvant atteindre 750 km selon le cycle WLTP, tandis que des versions \u00e0 quatre roues motrices et \u00e0 prolongateur d'autonomie sont \u00e9galement pr\u00e9vues.<\/p>\n

Renault n'a pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 si l'E-Space reposait sur cette plateforme, ni annonc\u00e9 de version de s\u00e9rie. Mais ce concept s'inscrit parfaitement dans la strat\u00e9gie de la marque, qui pr\u00e9voit de lancer 12 nouveaux mod\u00e8les europ\u00e9ens d'ici 2030 et de renforcer sa pr\u00e9sence sur les segments C et D, plus importants.<\/p>\n

Une partie de ce concept fait d\u00e9j\u00e0 son apparition dans les salles d'exposition. Son nouvel \u00e9cran \u00ab OpenR Panorama \u00bb s'\u00e9tend sur 1,13 m\u00e8tre \u00e0 travers l'habitacle, et Renault confirme que cette technologie \u00e9quipera ses futurs mod\u00e8les \u00e9lectriques haut de gamme.<\/p>\n

La production ? Renault dit \u00ab non \u00bb pour l'instant<\/h4>\n

Renault prend soin de ne pas faire de promesses excessives. Officiellement, il n\u2019y a \u201c pour l\u2019instant aucun projet de version de s\u00e9rie \u201d, et l\u2019E-Space est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 comme une r\u00e9flexion sur les futures voitures familiales \u00e9lectriques. Mais les concepts ne naissent que rarement de rien, et Renault \u00e9tudie ouvertement depuis des ann\u00e9es d\u00e9j\u00e0 la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019un Espace \u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n

Le march\u00e9 a lui aussi \u00e9volu\u00e9. La Volkswagen ID. Buzz a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les acheteurs peuvent \u00e0 nouveau \u00eatre s\u00e9duits par un v\u00e9hicule qui n'est ni une voiture classique ni un \u00e9ni\u00e8me SUV, alors m\u00eame que les constructeurs chinois investissent de plus en plus dans les grands monospaces \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n

La question la plus int\u00e9ressante n'est donc peut-\u00eatre pas de savoir si Renault parviendra \u00e0 relancer l'Espace sous la forme d'un monospace \u00e9lectrique, mais plut\u00f4t de savoir si l'engouement pour les SUV a enfin atteint un pic suffisant pour que les familles europ\u00e9ennes aient \u00e0 nouveau envie d'en acheter un.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
