Le fabricant chinois de batteries Greater Bay Technology (GBT) a lanc\u00e9 la production en s\u00e9rie de cellules de batteries tout-solide dans son usine situ\u00e9e pr\u00e8s de Guangzhou. L'entreprise affirme qu'il s'agit d'une premi\u00e8re mondiale, alors que tous les acteurs de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence en sont encore au stade des essais sur des lignes pilotes.<\/p>\n

GBT, un d\u00e9veloppeur de cellules de batterie soutenu par le groupe automobile GAC, a officiellement inaugur\u00e9 sa premi\u00e8re usine d\u00e9di\u00e9e aux cellules \u00e0 \u00e9tat solide. La capacit\u00e9 initiale est de 1 GWh, un chiffre modeste, mais le site dispose d'une capacit\u00e9 suppl\u00e9mentaire de 3 GWh pouvant \u00eatre mise en service si la demande venait \u00e0 augmenter.<\/p>\n

Difficile \u00e0 pr\u00e9voir<\/h4>\n

Le terme \u201c conversion \u201d rev\u00eat ici toute son importance, car GBT n\u2019a pas construit son usine \u00e0 partir de z\u00e9ro. Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter que le promoteur a utilis\u00e9 une ligne de production de batteries lithium-ion d\u00e9j\u00e0 existante. En effet, le hall de production peut encore alterner entre les deux types de batteries, ce qui conf\u00e8re \u00e0 cette strat\u00e9gie un avantage \u00e9conomique. \u00c0 l'heure actuelle, la technologie des batteries tout-solide est co\u00fbteuse. Il est difficile de pr\u00e9dire la taille du march\u00e9.<\/p>\n

La production est \u00e9galement co\u00fbteuse. La plupart des programmes s\u00e9rieux dans le domaine des batteries \u00e0 \u00e9lectrolyte solide, comme ceux de Toyota, Samsung SDI ou CATL, utilisent des \u00e9lectrolytes \u00e0 base de sulfure. Ceux-ci se d\u00e9sagr\u00e8gent au contact de l'humidit\u00e9 ; la production impose donc des exigences \u00e9lev\u00e9es aux installations, qui doivent garantir un s\u00e9chage sans oxyg\u00e8ne tout au long du processus.<\/p>\n

Ce processus complexe exige un niveau de savoir-faire et d'exp\u00e9rience qui n'est pas courant. Il ne devrait pas non plus permettre de passer facilement d'un type de batterie \u00e0 un autre.<\/p>\n

Durcissement \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur de la cellule<\/h4>\n

Mais GBT a contourn\u00e9 le probl\u00e8me gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un \u00e9lectrolyte composite organo-inorganique. Celui-ci p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans la cellule sous forme de pr\u00e9curseur liquide, puis durcit in situ, formant une interface \u00e9lastique avec les \u00e9lectrodes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comme l'\u00e9lectrolyte se forme \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur de la cellule, il est possible d'utiliser des \u00e9quipements lithium-ion classiques. L'environnement exempt d'oxyg\u00e8ne n'est n\u00e9cessaire que partiellement, pour le remplissage de l'\u00e9lectrolyte.<\/p>\n

Huang Xiangdong, fondateur et directeur technique de GBT, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : \u201c Il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019une nouvelle ligne construite \u00e0 partir de z\u00e9ro, mais d\u2019une ligne existante dot\u00e9e d\u2019un nouveau c\u0153ur. \u201d Les premiers \u00e9chantillons ont \u00e9t\u00e9 livr\u00e9s en avril, et la production en s\u00e9rie a d\u00e9j\u00e0 commenc\u00e9. Un d\u00e9lai de seulement six mois entre le prototype et la production, c\u2019est plut\u00f4t rapide dans le domaine de l\u2019innovation en mati\u00e8re de batteries.<\/p>\n

V\u00e9ritable technologie \u00e0 semi-conducteurs<\/h4>\n

On ne s'interroge pas non plus sur la v\u00e9ritable nature des cellules \u00e0 l'\u00e9tat solide de GBT. Souvent, les cellules semi-solides sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es comme la solution id\u00e9ale, mais il s'agit en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 d'une cat\u00e9gorie totalement diff\u00e9rente, bien plus facile \u00e0 adapter \u00e0 la production de masse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cependant, le Centre national d'innovation en mati\u00e8re de batteries \u00e9lectriques en Chine a test\u00e9 les cellules produites par GBT. Il s'agit des premi\u00e8res cellules certifi\u00e9es conform\u00e9ment au nouveau cadre r\u00e9glementaire chinois : la norme GB\/T 48093.1-2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cette norme permet de distinguer les cellules v\u00e9ritablement \u00ab tout \u00e0 l'\u00e9tat solide \u00bb des produits semi-solides et hybrides qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 commercialis\u00e9s sous la m\u00eame appellation. Elle n'entrera en vigueur qu'en 2028, mais GBT r\u00e9pond d'ores et d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 ses exigences.<\/p>\n

Et en Europe ?<\/h4>\n

Toutefois, GBT n'a publi\u00e9 aucun chiffre. Or, pour une batterie destin\u00e9e aux v\u00e9hicules, la densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et la dur\u00e9e de vie seront des facteurs d\u00e9terminants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L'actif le plus concret de l'Europe dans le domaine des batteries \u00e0 \u00e9tat solide est la gigafactory de ProLogium \u00e0 Dunkerque. Il s'agira de la premi\u00e8re capacit\u00e9 de production \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle de batteries \u00e0 \u00e9tat solide sur le sol europ\u00e9en, et elle sera d\u00e9tenue par des Ta\u00efwanais. Volkswagen a choisi de passer par une licence pour int\u00e9grer la technologie de QuantumScape dans ses propres usines PowerCo. Cela permettrait d\u2019implanter la production en Europe, mais la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 intellectuelle fondamentale resterait am\u00e9ricaine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Il se pourrait toutefois que les v\u00e9hicules de GTB fassent leur apparition en Europe.
