Selon deux nouveaux rapports publi\u00e9s lundi par l'Initiative internationale sur la cryosph\u00e8re et le climat (ICCI), en collaboration avec le Programme des Nations unies pour l'environnement (PNUE), les calottes glaciaires du Groenland et de l'Antarctique fondent \u00e0 un rythme environ six fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui de\u00a0les ann\u00e9es 1990.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les scientifiques mettent en garde contre le fait que Un r\u00e9chauffement climatique sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 1,5 \u00b0C aura des cons\u00e9quences \u201c irr\u00e9versibles \u201d pour les glaciers, la banquise et toutes les surfaces gel\u00e9es en permanence sur Terre. <\/span>Selon eux, l'id\u00e9al serait de ramener le r\u00e9chauffement \u00e0 long terme en dessous de 1 degr\u00e9. <\/span><\/p>\n

En 2015, la communaut\u00e9 internationale s'est fix\u00e9 pour objectif de limiter le r\u00e9chauffement climatique \u00e0 1,5 \u00b0C au-dessus des niveaux pr\u00e9industriels afin d'\u00e9viter les pires cons\u00e9quences du changement climatique.<\/p>\n

\u2018 D\u00e9passement \u2019<\/h4>\n

Bien que l'objectif n'ait pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement manqu\u00e9, les Nations Unies affirment qu'il ne pourra plus \u00eatre atteint et qu'il sera d\u00e9pass\u00e9, au moins temporairement, un sc\u00e9nario connu sous le nom de \u201c d\u00e9passement \u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pour inverser ce d\u00e9passement \u00e0 long terme, l'humanit\u00e9 devra, \u00e0 terme, entrer dans une phase d'\u00e9missions n\u00e9gatives, o\u00f9 la quantit\u00e9 de dioxyde de carbone (CO\u2082) retir\u00e9e de l'atmosph\u00e8re sera sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle qui y est \u00e9mise. Un r\u00e9chauffement plus important et plus durable, sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 1,5 degr\u00e9, augmentera \u00e9galement le risque de glissements de terrain et d'incendies de for\u00eat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Certaines cons\u00e9quences sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 visibles, <\/span>avec un r\u00e9chauffement de 1,37 degr\u00e9 par rapport au niveau pr\u00e9industriel (1850-1900). <\/span>Par exemple, un cinqui\u00e8me des glaciers suisses ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 disparu.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reprise lente<\/h4>\n

Les scientifiques soulignent \u00e9galement que, m\u00eame si l'on parvenait par la suite \u00e0 freiner le r\u00e9chauffement, la reprise serait \u201c tr\u00e8s lente \u201d.\u201d <\/span>Cela pourrait prendre plusieurs d\u00e9cennies, voire plusieurs si\u00e8cles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nous nous dirigeons actuellement vers un r\u00e9chauffement de 2,8 degr\u00e9s Celsius. Si cette tendance se poursuit, le niveau de la mer pourrait augmenter de 5 centim\u00e8tres par an d'ici 2150.<\/span><\/p>\n
