Toch heeft de Stellantis Group, het moederbedrijf van onder andere Peugeot, Jeep en Fiat, bij het Amerikaanse octrooi- en merkenbureau (USPTO) een octrooi aangevraagd voor een systeem dat gevaarlijke gassen zou afvoeren in het 'onwaarschijnlijke geval' van een accubrand.<\/p>

Oplaadbare batterijen, met name lithium-ionbatterijen die tegenwoordig in consumentenelektronica of elektrische auto\u2019s worden gebruikt, kunnen te maken krijgen met wat ingenieurs een 'thermische runaway' noemen.
