Volgens de NGO Transport en Milieu is bijna een op de twee nieuwe bussen (49%) die in 2024 in Europa worden verkocht, geen uitstoot hebben - elektrisch of op waterstof - waarmee de doelstellingen van de Europese Unie voor CO2-normen voor bussen worden overtroffen en stadsbussen een van de eerste succesverhalen van de Europese Green Deal worden.

Brandstofcelbussen vertegenwoordigen 3% van de nieuwe EU-stadsbussen in 2024; batterij-elektrische bussen vertegenwoordigen echter verreweg het grootste deel, met een aandeel van 46%. Met dit groeitempo liggen stadsbussen op koers om in 2027 volledig emissievrij te zijn. Voor stadsbewoners betekent dat stillere straten en schonere lucht.<\/p>
