Bestuurders van elektrische voertuigen moeten binnenkort betalen om het centrum van Londen in te mogen, als onderdeel van de plannen van Transport for London (TfL) om de congestion charge te herzien. De maatregel heeft campagnevoerders, bedrijfsgroepen en voorstanders van schone lucht verdeeld, maar past in een bredere trend waarbij steden hun beleid voor schone lucht aanpassen.<\/p>

De herziening heeft niet alleen gevolgen voor de vrijstelling voor elektrische voertuigen. Vanaf januari 2026 zal het dagelijkse tarief voor het binnenrijden van de zone stijgen van \u00a315 naar \u00a318 (\u20ac17,5 naar \u20ac21), de eerste verhoging in vijf jaar. Het feit dat elektrische voertuigen hun vrijstelling van de heffing verliezen, leidt tot controverse, maar ze profiteren nog steeds van een korting. Ze zullen \u00a313,50 (\u20ac15,8) moeten betalen, op voorwaarde dat ze zijn aangemeld voor het Auto Pay-systeem van TfL. Die korting zal in 2030 weer halveren.<\/p>
