Tegen 2030 zullen biobrandstoffen naar verwachting 70 Mt CO\u2082e meer uitstoten dan de fossiele brandstoffen die ze vervangen, gelijk aan de jaarlijkse uitstoot van bijna 30 miljoen dieselauto's.<\/p>

Op dit moment wordt voor het verbouwen van gewassen voor brandstof 32 miljoen hectare land gebruikt - ongeveer de grootte van Itali\u00eb - om te voldoen aan slechts 4% van de wereldwijde vraag naar energie voor transport.
