De Belgische spoorweginfrastructuurbeheerder Infrabel trekt 200 miljoen euro uit om de infrastructuur voor het vervoer van zwaar militair materieel te versterken, aldus RTL info. Het geld zal voornamelijk worden gebruikt om bruggen te versterken, tunnels te verbreden en nieuwe sporen aan te leggen, met name rond de havens van Antwerpen en Zeebrugge.<\/p>

De investering sluit aan bij de plannen van de Europese Unie om de militaire mobiliteit binnen de lidstaten te versterken, zodat beter kan worden ingespeeld op de huidige veiligheidssituatie. Tegelijkertijd zal dit ook ten goede komen aan het civiele goederenvervoer, doordat er grotere vracht op het Belgische spoor kan worden vervoerd.<\/p>
