Half september voltooide Alstom in Salzgitter, Duitsland, de eerste rit ter wereld met een rangeerlocomotief die was omgebouwd van diesel- naar waterstofaandrijving. Maar amper twee maanden later zet de Franse multinational, een wereldleider op het gebied van spoorvervoer, de verdere ontwikkeling van waterstoftreinen tijdelijk stil. Volgens Alstom zijn de belangrijkste redenen voor het stopzetten of opschorten van de projecten het wegvallen van overheidssubsidies en het feit dat de technologie nog niet volledig uitgerijpt is.<\/p>

Volgens de Franse krant La Lettre is het stopzetten van Franse overheidssubsidies de belangrijkste reden waarom de dochteronderneming Alstom Hydrogen haar activiteiten zal staken en haar werknemers zullen worden overgeplaatst naar andere activiteiten binnen de groep.<\/p>
