Zoals de meeste Europese landen is ook Belgi\u00eb bezig met het organiseren van de repatri\u00ebring van Belgen die gestrand zijn in het Midden-Oosten door de militaire escalatie in Iran. Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Maxime Pr\u00e9vot (Les Engag\u00e9s) werkt hiervoor nauw samen met minister van Defensie Theo Francken (N-VA).<\/p>\n

Er zijn momenteel bijna 26.000 Belgen in de getroffen regio, waaronder bijna 2.500 toeristen. De kosten van militair transport naar een veilig buurland in het Midden-Oosten, van waaruit je dan zelf je terugreis naar Belgi\u00eb moet regelen, worden doorgerekend aan de reizigers.<\/p>\n

Focus op gestrande toeristen<\/h4>\n

De meeste Belgische toeristen zijn momenteel gestrand in Qatar en Dubai, toeristische bestemmingen en vervoersknooppunten<\/a> waarvan de internationale luchthavens zo goed als gesloten zijn door het conflict. Volgens Pr\u00e9vot komen de verzoeken om consulaire bijstand daarom vooral uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten en Qatar.<\/p>\n

De focus ligt momenteel vooral op gestrande toeristen die zich hebben geregistreerd bij Travelers Online, de website van de Belgische Federale Overheidsdienst (FOD) Buitenlandse Zaken.<\/p>\n

Zelfs als Belgi\u00eb militaire vliegtuigen naar de regio zou sturen, \u201chebben we gewoonweg niet het materiaal om enkele duizenden mensen in enkele dagen te repatri\u00ebren\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

Complexe situatie<\/h4>\n

Het kan enkele dagen duren voordat de evacuatie van militaire vliegtuigen kan beginnen. Het luchtruim boven de getroffen gebieden moet worden ontruimd en er zijn ook enorme logistieke uitdagingen. \u201cIk begrijp de ergernis en het ongeduld van onze landgenoten, maar de situatie is bijzonder complex. Onze diensten doen wat ze kunnen,\u201d zegt Pr\u00e9vot.<\/p>\n

Belgi\u00eb werkt samen met Luxemburg en andere partners in de operatie. Ongeveer 30 Belgen die momenteel gestrand zijn in Oman vliegen woensdagavond terug naar Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

De repatri\u00ebring wordt uitgevoerd met de hulp van de Luxemburgse regering. Vijf Belgen keerden dinsdagavond met een KLM-vlucht uit Nederland terug uit Oman.<\/p>\n

Het Ministerie van Defensie levert drie vliegtuigen: twee A400M transportvliegtuigen, elk met ongeveer 100 passagiers, en \u00e9\u00e9n Airbus A330 MRTT, met ongeveer 250 zitplaatsen.<\/p>\n

Bussen naar Riyad<\/h4>\n

Het is nog niet duidelijk wanneer de andere evacuaties zullen plaatsvinden. Volgens Pr\u00e9vot zou een staakt-het-vuren, \u201cal is het maar tijdelijk\u201d, voldoende kunnen zijn om een veilige repatri\u00ebring mogelijk te maken. \u201cIk heb deze zaak aan mijn Europese collega's en aan de Verenigde Staten voorgelegd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Als de veiligheidssituatie het toelaat, vertrekken de eerste bussen met Belgen donderdagavond vanuit Doha naar Riyad, Saoedi-Arabi\u00eb. Van daaruit kunnen ze met een commerci\u00eble vlucht naar Belgi\u00eb vliegen.<\/p>\n

Vanaf vrijdag vertrekken er ook bussen vanuit Dubai en Abu Dhabi naar Muscat, Oman. Mogelijk kunnen ze dan met een militaire vlucht reizen, hoewel ze ook worden aangemoedigd om hun eigen terugvlucht te regelen.<\/p>\n

Momenteel hebben 374 Belgen zich geregistreerd voor repatri\u00ebring per bus vanuit Dubai of Abu Dhabi naar Muscat, gevolgd door luchttransport naar Hurghada, in Egypte. In Qatar hebben zich tot nu toe 36 Belgen ingeschreven.<\/p>\n

Repatri\u00ebringkosten<\/h4>\n

Ondertussen is er een noodnummer ingesteld waarop de getroffen Belgen kunnen bellen en houdt het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken hen op de hoogte van alle ontwikkelingen.<\/p>\n

In overeenstemming met de Belgische consulaire wetgeving zullen de kosten voor repatri\u00ebring aan de reizigers worden aangerekend tegen een redelijk tarief.
