De Tsjechische autofabrikant Skoda, onderdeel van de Volkswagen Group, zal China halverwege dit jaar officieel verlaten, wat de uitdagingen onderstreept waar buitenlandse merken mee te maken hebben te midden van de hevige concurrentie op 's werelds grootste automarkt.<\/p>\n

Skoda heeft moeite om gelijke tred te houden met China's snelle verschuiving naar elektrische voertuigen (EV's) en zal zich medio 2026 uit de markt terugtrekken, meldde Reuters woensdag, onder verwijzing naar het bedrijf. Op zijn hoogtepunt was China wereldwijd de grootste markt voor Skoda, ondersteund door een dealernetwerk van meer dan 500 verkooppunten en een gevarieerd productaanbod, waaronder populaire sedans en SUV's zoals de Octavia, Superb en Kodiaq.<\/p>\n

De periode na de piek in 2018 zag Skoda echter een dramatische terugval in China. De verkoop kelderde tot 15.000 eenheden in 2025, een duizelingwekkende daling van 95% ten opzichte van de piek. Deze scherpe daling bracht het marktaandeel terug tot minder dan 0,1% en leidde tot een aanzienlijke inkrimping van de verkoopkanalen.<\/p>\n

Veel van de overgebleven dealers zijn ge\u00efntegreerd in SAIC Volkswagen showrooms als \u201cshop-in-shop\u201d formules, waardoor de onafhankelijke operationele capaciteit van het merk effectief is uitgehold. Omdat buitenlandse autofabrikanten te maken hebben met hevige concurrentie van opkomende lokale merken, daalde de verkoop van Skoda vorig jaar tot slechts 15.000 eenheden. \u201cHet bedrijf zal Skoda-modellen blijven verkopen op de Chinese markt in samenwerking met een regionale partner tot medio 2026,\u201d zei Skoda in een verklaring. De dienst na verkoop voor Skoda-auto's zal ook in de toekomst in China worden aangeboden, voegde het bedrijf eraan toe.<\/p>\n

Als onderdeel van een strategische herpositionering om zijn wereldwijde activiteiten te optimaliseren, zei Skoda dat het zijn aanwezigheid in India en Zuidoost-Azi\u00eb wil versterken. De automaker zag de verkoop in deze opkomende Aziatische markten in 2025 al groeien.<\/p>\n

Moeilijke jaren voor VW Groep<\/h4>\n

Moedermaatschappij Volkswagen heeft een paar moeilijke jaren achter de rug in China, waar oudere autofabrikanten blijven worstelen in een door technologie gedreven EV-markt. Lokale merken BYD en Geely hebben het Duitse bedrijf ingehaald in de totale verkoop, waarmee een einde is gekomen aan de jarenlange dominantie in het land.<\/p>\n
