Het systeem fungeert als een digitale copiloot die trambestuurders bijstaat in complexe verkeerssituaties in de stad door hen te helpen risico's sneller te herkennen en botsingen te voorkomen.<\/p>\n<p>Vorig jaar werd het project van het bestuurdersassistentiesysteem, dat deel uitmaakt van het Europese ARISE-project (Advanced Rail Innovation for Safety &amp; Efficiency), getest op een tram van De Lijn in Antwerpen. De installatie toonde aan dat de technologie, die continu de omgeving van de tram in de gaten houdt, ook inzetbaar is in een druk stedelijk tramnetwerk.<\/p>\n<h4>Vooral handig in complexe verkeerssituaties<\/h4>\n<p>Tijdens het testen in de verschillende projectsteden, waaronder Valencia en Zaragoza, werden meer dan 400.000 km gegevens verzameld. Het systeem behaalde een beschikbaarheidsgraad van meer dan 95% en genereerde zeer weinig valse alarmen. Het project moet uiteindelijk helpen het aantal tramgerelateerde aanrijdingen te verminderen en verstoringen op het tramnet te minimaliseren.<\/p>\n<p>De betrokken trambestuurders reageerden ook positief op de test. Ze gaven aan dat het systeem vooral nuttig is in complexe verkeerssituaties, waar extra ondersteuning hen helpt om sneller te reageren op onverwachte bewegingen van andere weggebruikers.<\/p>\n<h4>Extra functies<\/h4>\n<p>Op basis van de positieve ervaringen in Antwerpen werd in februari het nieuwe Europese TRACE-project gelanceerd, eveneens ondersteund door EIT Urban Mobility, een initiatief van het Europees Instituut voor Innovatie en Technologie (EIT), een orgaan van de Europese Unie.<\/p>\n<p>TRACE bouwt voort op de technologie van ARISE en voegt extra functies toe. Dankzij extra sensoren zal het systeem in Gent bijvoorbeeld ook potenti\u00eble botsingen langs de zijkanten van de tram kunnen detecteren.<\/p>\n<p>Daarnaast maakt het systeem gebruik van digitale route-informatie. Dit helpt de bestuurder beter te anticiperen op complexe situaties langs de route en geeft onder andere waarschuwingen wanneer een tram een gebied nadert waar een aangepaste snelheid vereist is, zoals in de buurt van wissels.<\/p>\n<p>De technologie wordt dit jaar ook getest in Karlsruhe en Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<h4>Extra paar ogen<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cOnze chauffeurs werken elke dag in een uitdagende stedelijke omgeving\u201d, zegt Ann Schoubs, Algemeen Directeur bij De Lijn. \u201cMet een bestuurdersassistentiesysteem als dit geven we hen een extra set ogen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cARISE heeft waardevolle inzichten opgeleverd in hoe technologie bestuurders kan ondersteunen.
