BMW Group werkt samen met Rimac Technology om de vernieuwde volledig elektrische BMW i7 uit te rusten met Gen6 cilindrische batterijcellen, gericht op een hogere energiedichtheid, een groter bereik en sneller opladen. De productie van het nieuwe hoogspanningsbatterijsysteem vindt plaats in Kroati\u00eb in de aanloop naar het debuut van de i7 tijdens Auto China 2026.<\/p>\n

De kern van het nieuwe systeem wordt gevormd door cilindrische lithium-ioncellen van het 4695-formaat, waarmee Gen6-celchemie wordt ge\u00efntroduceerd in het luxesegment van BMW. Volgens BMW bieden de cellen een volumetrische energiedichtheid die ongeveer 20% hoger ligt dan die van de prismatische cellen die in de vorige Gen5 architectuur werden gebruikt. De batterij combineert deze Gen6-cellen met een beproefd Gen5-moduleontwerp en vormt zo een hybride benadering die bedoeld is om de introductie te versnellen.<\/p>\n

BMW stelt dat deze configuratie een \u2018aanzienlijk grotere actieradius\u2019 mogelijk maakt voor de vernieuwde i7, hoewel specifieke cijfers worden bekendgemaakt tijdens de wereldpremi\u00e8re van de auto op 22 april tijdens Auto China 2026 in Beijing.<\/p>\n

De huidige i7 xDrive60 is goed voor 624 kilometer (WLTP), een benchmark die het herziene model naar verwachting zal overtreffen. Tegelijkertijd zullen de oplaadmogelijkheden verbeteren, met een hoger oplaadvermogen en navenant kortere oplaadtijden.<\/p>\n

Neue Klasse-technologie\u00ebn verspreiden<\/h4>\n

\u201cWe zijn de technologie\u00ebn van de Neue Klasse snel aan het uitrollen over ons hele modellenportfolio, waaronder natuurlijk in onze volledig elektrische luxe sedan. De teams van beide bedrijven hebben een op maat gemaakte oplossing ontwikkeld voor de nieuwe BMW i7\u201d, zegt Thomas Engelhardt, Senior Vice President Development High-Voltage Storage and Charging bij BMW Group. \u201cDe uitstekende samenwerking met Rimac Technology is een goed voorbeeld van de Europese innovatiekracht.\u201d<\/p>\n

De hoogspanningsbatterijsystemen worden vervaardigd door Rimac Technology op de campus in de buurt van Zagreb, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van speciale productiecapaciteit van ongeveer 15.000 m2.<\/p>\n

De systemen worden klaar voor assemblage geleverd aan de BMW Group fabriek Dingolfing in Duitsland, de enige productielocatie voor de BMW 7 Reeks, waar ze in de voertuigbodem worden ge\u00efntegreerd.<\/p>\n

De bijgewerkte i7 zal naar verwachting geselecteerde elementen van BMW's nieuwe Neue Klasse technologieplatform overnemen, terwijl delen van de bestaande Gen5 aandrijflijnarchitectuur behouden blijven. Naast de upgrade van de accu worden verdere details over het design en het interieur bekendgemaakt tijdens de premi\u00e8re in Beijing later deze maand.<\/p>\n

Rimac Technologie<\/h4>\n

Rimac Technology, een Tier 1-leverancier binnen de Rimac Group, is gespecialiseerd in elektrificatiesystemen waaronder hoogspanningsaccu's, e-assen en elektronische regeleenheden. De samenwerking met BMW betekent een verdere stap in de overgang van een niche-leverancier voor high-performance voertuigen naar een partner voor grootschalige automotive programma's.<\/p>\n

\u201cBMW heeft altijd bekend gestaan om het opvoeren van engineering naar het hoogste niveau, wat deze samenwerking bijzonder spannend voor ons maakte,\u201d zei Mate Rimac, oprichter en president van Rimac Group en CEO en CTO van Bugatti Rimac.<\/p>\n

\u201cSamen hebben we een hoogspanningsbatterijsysteem ontwikkeld dat het volledige potentieel van de nieuwe cilindrische cellen in recordtijd ontsluit en aanzienlijke verbeteringen levert op het gebied van energie, actieradius en oplaadprestaties. BMW en Rimac al kondigden hun samenwerking in 2024 aan.<\/a> Destijds leek het erop dat Rimac geen deel zou uitmaken van de ontwikkeling van de zesde generatie BMW eDrive technologie.
