In 2024 zal de politie\u00a0ongeveer 460 dronken fietsers beboet. Verschillende kranten meldden dit de afgelopen dagen. <\/span>En nog opvallender: ongeveer 270 keer leidde dit ook tot de intrekking van het rijbewijs. In dat geval kreeg de fietser niet alleen een fikse boete, maar moest hij ook zijn auto of motor een tijdje laten staan.<\/span><\/p>\n

De politie van Gent en Leuven nuanceert de cijfers echter. \u201cWe zoeken niet specifiek naar dronken fietsers; het merendeel van onze vaststellingen komt voort uit het feit dat we een blaastest afnemen bij alle partijen die betrokken zijn bij een ongeval, dus ook bij fietsers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

0,8 promille<\/h4>\n

Maar het is wel zo dat fietsers die beduidend te veel gedronken hebben inderdaad het risico lopen hun rijbewijs kwijt te raken, bevestigt een ervaren politierechter. \u201cIedereen die vandaag als \u2018bestuurder\u2019 meer dan 0,8 promille in zijn bloed heeft, moet in principe altijd onmiddellijk zijn rijbewijs inleveren, ongeacht met welk voertuig de alcoholovertreding werd begaan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Die alcoholcontroles zelf liggen trouwens ook onder vuur omdat de politiezones ze niet overal consequent uitvoeren. In sommige steden worden veel controles uitgevoerd, terwijl het risico om betrapt te worden in andere gebieden bijzonder laag is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gevaarlijke verkeerssituaties<\/h4>\n

Kamerlid Niels Tas (Vooruit), die de cijfers opvroeg bij minister van Mobiliteit Jean-Luc Crucke (Les Engag\u00e9s), steunt in elk geval niet het voorstel van de Fietsersbond (samen met Anders-parlementslid Vincent Van Quickenborne en de Groene partij) om dronken fietsers minder zwaar te straffen - een kwestie van mensen aanmoedigen om de auto thuis te laten en naar een feestje te fietsen. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dat voorstel werd echter ingetrokken nadat onder andere het Verkeersveiligheidsinstituut Vias verklaarde dat een dronken fietser ook voor zeer gevaarlijke verkeerssituaties kan zorgen.\u00a0<\/span>Vias wees er ook op dat bij ongevallen in het weekend meer dan de helft van de betrokken fietsers te veel had gedronken.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
