Op zondag, Belgi\u00eb\u00a0zijn Overshoot Day bereikt. Dit betekent dat als alle landen ter wereld het Belgische consumptiepatroon zouden volgen, alle natuurlijke hulpbronnen die de planeet in \u00e9\u00e9n jaar kan leveren, al opgebruikt zouden zijn. We zouden dan 3,6 aardes nodig hebben.<\/span><\/p>\n

Elk jaar berekent Global Footprint Network de Earth Overshoot Day: de datum waarop de mensheid (of een land) alle natuurlijke hulpbronnen heeft opgebruikt die de aarde in een jaar kan regenereren.\u00a0<\/span>Vanaf die dag leven we \u2018op krediet\u2019 van de planeet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Belgi\u00eb behoort tot de grootverbruikers<\/h4>\n

Dit jaar, Overshoot Day in Qatar viel al op 4 februari. Belgi\u00eb bereikte zijn Overshoot Day op 12 april. Belgi\u00eb behoort daarmee tot de zwaarste verbruikers wereldwijd. Voor Honduras zal dat pas op 27 november zijn.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Belgi\u00eb valt Overshoot Day twee weken later dan vorig jaar (27 maart), wat overigens niet betekent dat we veel duurzamer zijn gaan leven.\u00a0<\/span>Belgi\u00eb behoort daarentegen tot de grootverbruikers en presteert vergelijkbaar met Nederland, maar slechter dan Frankrijk en Duitsland.<\/span><\/p>\n

De hoge voetafdruk van Belgi\u00eb is voornamelijk te wijten aan transport en mobiliteit, industrie en energieverbruik, voeding (veel vlees en import), woningbouw en energie-effici\u00ebntie, en de consumptie en import van goederen.<\/span><\/p>\n

3,6 Aardes?<\/h4>\n

Als iedereen wereldwijd een gemiddeld consumptiepatroon zou aanhouden, zouden we al 1,7 aardes nodig hebben. Maar als iedereen evenveel zou consumeren als in Belgi\u00eb, dan zouden we 3,6 aarde nodig hebben.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overshoot Day geeft in wezen aan dat hoe vroeger de datum valt, hoe groter de ecologische druk.\u00a0<\/span>Om ervoor te zorgen dat Overshoot Day later valt, moeten we ons richten op hernieuwbare energie, bewuster omgaan met voedsel en duurzamer bouwen en verbouwen, naast andere maatregelen.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
