Afgelopen vrijdag kondigde autofabrikant Stellantis een nieuwe inkrimping aan van het technische personeel in het Opel Research & Development centrum in R\u00fcsselsheim. Dit betekent dat er slechts 1.000 R&D-banen overblijven in de buurt van het hoofdkantoor van Opel in Duitsland.<\/p>\n

In andere landen is Stellantis echter van plan om nieuw technisch talent aan te werven, waaronder zo'n 2.000 in de VS en 700 in Frankrijk. Stellantis verklaart de stap om het aantal mensen in zijn R&D-centra af te stemmen op de activiteiten en het belang van die centra binnen de groep.<\/p>\n

R\u00fcsselsheim<\/h4>\n

De herstructurering van de Duitse R&D-vestiging, die zich bezighoudt met de ontwikkeling van Opel en Vauxhall auto's en andere \u2018transversale\u2019 activiteiten binnen de groep, heeft als doel het concurrentievermogen van het Duitse deel van de groep te versterken,\u201d aldus Stellantis in een persbericht.<\/p>\n

Toen Opel in 2017 werd overgenomen door (toen nog) PSA, werkten er nog zo'n 7.000 mensen in de R&D-faciliteiten van Opel in R\u00fcsselsheim. Velen zijn sindsdien vertrokken, en nog niet zo lang geleden, Stellantis sloot ook tijdelijk de belangrijke testfaciliteiten in Dudenhofen<\/a>, ten oosten van Frankfurt.<\/p>\n

De ontwikkeling verontrust vakbonden en regionale overheden in Hessen, die de inkrimping zien als een verdere uitholling van Opels Duitse technische basis. Het testterrein in Dudenhofen, ooit een symbool van technische uitmuntendheid, heeft sinds de opening in 1966 niet alleen tests uitgevoerd voor Opel, maar ook voor andere autofabrikanten.<\/p>\n

Het \u2018Tech Center\u2019 in R\u00fcsselsheim blijft niettemin een van de ankerpunten van Stellantis\u2019 R&D. Naast de verdere ontwikkeling van Opel en Vauxhall auto's binnen de groep, zal het centrum ook verantwoordelijk zijn voor de ontwikkeling van verlichting, AI-toepassingen in de productie, de ontwikkeling van ADAS-systemen en de ontwikkeling van batterijen.<\/p>\n

Sochaux<\/h4>\n

Stellantis heeft ook een extra investering van \u20ac120 miljoen aangekondigd in zijn historische vestiging in Sochaux (Oost-Frankrijk), de bakermat van het merk Peugeot. De belangrijkste investering is een nieuwe, bijna volledig geautomatiseerde en koolstofarme lakstraat.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe spuiterij zal volledig ge\u00eblektrificeerd zijn, zonder gas en zal slechts de helft van het water verbruiken dat nu wordt gebruikt. Er zal slechts \u00e9\u00e9n verwarmingsmoment zijn in het hele lakproces, zegt Julien Risset, de supervisor van de spuiterij, die benadrukt dat \u201chet lakken van een auto zo'n 80% aan CO2-uitstoot vertegenwoordigt in een autofabriek\u201d.<\/p>\n

De fabriek in Sochaux produceert ongeveer 1.050 auto's per dag en is een van de grootste autofabrieken van Stellantis. Wereldwijd heeft Stellantis 42 autofabrieken, waarvan er vijf in Frankrijk staan.
