Volgens hem was het een hel, vooral <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">als gezin met twee kleine kinderen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Zonne-energie uit de ruimte<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Deprez begon zich te verdiepen in zonne-energie uit de ruimte (SBSP), een technologie waarbij satellieten met zonnepanelen de opgewekte elektriciteit via radiogolven naar de aarde sturen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Hierdoor kun je draadloze energie leveren op plaatsen die geen toegang hebben tot een elektriciteitsnet.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Zonnepanelen leveren meer op in de ruimte: er is geen nacht en geen bewolking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Ondertussen zijn zonnepanelen veel effici\u00ebnter dan vroeger en kost het minder om satellieten in een baan om de aarde te brengen, mede dankzij commerci\u00eble spelers als SpaceX van Elon Musk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Lage baan om de aarde<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">TerraSpark zal beginnen met kleinere satellieten op ongeveer 1.200 kilometer, in de hogere regionen van Low Earth Orbit (LEO). De eerste wordt volgend jaar gelanceerd. Daarna wil TerraSpark opschalen. Hoger en hoger, om uiteindelijk geostationaire satellieten te bereiken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>TerraSpark\u00a0<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">richt zich in eerste instantie op kleinschalige projecten, <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">maar later zou zonne-energie ook kunnen helpen om piekbelastingen op het elektriciteitsnet op te vangen. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Afhankelijk van de baan rond de aarde kun je elke locatie op aarde twee keer per dag van stroom voorzien,\u201d legt Deprez uit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201cNet zoals je een dataverbinding met de aarde tot stand brengt via een satelliet, kun je radiogolven ook gebruiken om stroom te verzenden via een goed gerichte straal. Net als een draadloze oplader, maar dan op afstand.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>\u2018Technisch haalbaar\u2019<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De manier waarop elektriciteit naar de aarde wordt gestuurd lijkt op een mobiele zendmast, die radiogolven breed uitzendt maar ze ook nauwkeurig kan afstellen.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Tijdens het transport blijft 85 procent van de opbrengst intact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nasa en het Europees Ruimteagentschap hebben herhaaldelijk bevestigd dat het project technisch haalbaar is; er zijn geen fysieke belemmeringen. Het zal echter duur blijven, omdat er enorme structuren nodig zijn in de ruimte. TerraSpark's commerci\u00eble claim voor 2030 is ambitieus en riskant.<\/p>\n<h4>Gevoelig onderwerp<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Straling is een gevoelig onderwerp en roept gemakkelijk discussies op over de effecten op de gezondheid. TerraSpark zal er daarom alles aan doen om te voldoen aan de ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) normen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het bedrijf voegt ook extra beveiliging toe: er komen hekken rond de antennes en een signaal vanaf de grond controleert of er obstakels zijn. Zodra dat gebeurt, stopt de satelliet automatisch met het energietransport. \u201cWant als ruimte-energie net zo gewoon wordt als ruimte-internet, moet het wel veilig zijn.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>TerraSpark staat niet alleen; het maakt deel uit van een wereldwijde golf. In Europa kennen we het Solaris-programma van de European Space Agency.
