De borden zijn gemaakt <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">van hennep, suikerafval en plantaardige olie.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Echte buitenomstandigheden<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De 24 borden worden een jaar lang getest in echte buitenomstandigheden (weer, UV, slijtage) op de testlocatie bij Oirschot. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Op basis van de resultaten kunnen Rijkswaterstaat en andere overheden bepalen of de herbruikbare, biobased verkeersborden geschikt zijn om in de toekomst op grotere schaal te gebruiken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Elk jaar worden er in Europa enorme hoeveelheden verkeersborden geproduceerd, bijna altijd van aluminium en fossiele kunststoffen. De Nederlanders geloven dat dit duurzamer kan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Ze werkten voor het project samen met Plantics. De borden zelf zijn gemaakt van grondstoffen uit Nederland, waaronder hennep uit Oirschot en Groningen. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De hennep wordt gecombineerd met een biologische hars afkomstig uit reststromen van de suikerindustrie en de productie van plantaardige olie.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Volledig rond<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Vergeleken met aluminium borden slaat hennep CO\u2082 op tijdens het groeien en de productie ervan is veel minder energie-intensief. Hierdoor zijn de borden volledig circulair. Hierdoor kunnen de materialen van oude borden opnieuw worden gescheiden door middel van duurzame recycling. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Dat materiaal kan dan worden gebruikt voor nieuwe verkeersborden of andere toepassingen. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">En als zo'n bord in de natuur terechtkomt, bijvoorbeeld na een botsing, breekt het biomateriaal op natuurlijke wijze af in de bodem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Andere toepassingen<\/h4>\n<p>De biogebaseerde uithangborden zijn niet helemaal nieuw. Composieten van hennep en vlas worden al gebruikt in auto-interieurs en bouwmaterialen. Maar toepassingen voor verkeersborden zijn nog zeldzaam. Zweden heeft biobased verkeersborden ontwikkeld met ligninehars en vezels.<\/p>\n<p>Andere sectoren experimenteren ook met materialen op biologische basis, zoals bioasfalt en houten of bamboe straatmeubilair. Het idee om biologisch afbreekbare materialen te gebruiken voor verkeersborden is innovatief en duurzaam.<\/p>\n<p>Verkeersborden worden immers elk jaar in enorme hoeveelheden geproduceerd en de productie ervan is zeer energie-intensief.
