Volgens cijfers gepubliceerd door <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Renta<\/span><\/span>, de Belgische federatie van autoverhuur- en leasemaatschappijen, bereikte het aantal private leasecontracten 16.074 voertuigen tegen eind maart 2026, een stijging van 22% op jaarbasis ten opzichte van 13.201 een jaar eerder.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"178\" data-end=\"795\">Hoewel de groei aanzienlijk is, vertegenwoordigt het segment nog steeds amper 3% van de totale langetermijnleasewagenparken van meer dan 540.000 voertuigen die door Renta-leden worden beheerd, wat benadrukt hoe marginaal private lease blijft in een markt die nog steeds overwegend zakelijk is.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1406\">ICE en hybride domineren nog steeds<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1406\">Ook de samenstelling van de private leasevloot laat interessante trends zien. Benzine- en hybride modellen blijven domineren en zijn goed voor meer dan 86% van de contracten, maar hun aandeel daalt geleidelijk.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1406\">Volledig elektrische voertuigen winnen daarentegen snel terrein: hun aandeel is in \u00e9\u00e9n jaar tijd bijna verdubbeld van iets meer dan 4% naar 7,8%, tot 1.255 eenheden.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"1406\">Diesel- en plug-in hybride voertuigen blijven een niche in dit segment. De gemiddelde contractduur bedraagt 52 maanden, wat overeenkomt met de bredere leasetrends, maar bevestigt dat particuliere klanten, net als bedrijven, kiezen voor relatief lange verbintenissen.<\/p>\n<h4>Opvallend contrast met Nederland<\/h4>\n<p>Het contrast met de buurlanden is opvallend. In Nederland, de meest volwassen private leasemarkt in Europa, worden ongeveer 241.800 voertuigen private geleased, zelfs na een lichte daling in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Relatief gezien heeft private lease daar een aanzienlijk aandeel in de inschrijvingen van nieuwe auto's, terwijl het in Belgi\u00eb een nicheproduct blijft.<\/p>\n<p>Frankrijk laat een andere, maar verwante trend zien: leasing is wijdverspreid, maar vaak in de vorm van lease-to-own (LOA) contracten, waarbij bestuurders het voertuig aan het einde van het contract kunnen kopen. Duitsland zit daar ergens tussenin, met een sterke leasemarkt over het algemeen, maar nog steeds gedomineerd door zakelijke gebruikers in plaats van particulieren.<\/p>\n<h4>De auto van de zaak domineert<\/h4>\n<p>De achterstand van Belgi\u00eb is dus geen kwestie van beschikbaarheid van producten of recente groei, maar van structurele verschillen. Eerst en vooral is er de dominantie van de bedrijfswagen.<\/p>\n<p>Belgi\u00eb blijft een van de weinige Europese landen waar door de werkgever ter beschikking gestelde voertuigen, vaak met inbegrip van brandstof of oplaadkaarten, diep verankerd zijn in het beloningssysteem.<\/p>\n<p>Voor veel huishoudens is mobiliteit al gedekt door een fiscaal voordeel, waardoor er weinig stimulans is om priv\u00e9alternatieven te onderzoeken. Deze structurele vooringenomenheid verklaart waarom de leasemarkt in Belgi\u00eb overwegend B2B-geori\u00ebnteerd blijft.<\/p>\n<p>Een tweede factor is cultureel. Belgische consumenten geven traditioneel de voorkeur aan eigendom boven gebruik. Het idee om een vast maandelijks bedrag te betalen zonder uiteindelijk eigenaar te zijn van de auto stuit nog steeds op weerstand, ook al zijn soortgelijke abonnementsmodellen in andere sectoren algemeen aanvaard.<\/p>\n<h4>Volledige eigendomskosten onbekend<\/h4>\n<p>Renta merkt zelf op dat Belgische priv\u00e9klanten minder geneigd zijn om te kiezen voor een formule waarbij ze niet de eigenaar van het voertuig worden. Wanneer private lease echter geanalyseerd wordt vanuit het perspectief van de totale eigendomskosten (TCO), blijkt het competitiever te zijn dan veel consumenten veronderstellen.<\/p>\n<p>Een typische elektrische middenklasser zoals een Volkswagen ID.3 kan in Belgi\u00eb particulier geleased worden voor ongeveer \u20ac450 tot \u20ac500 per maand, all-inclusive.<\/p>\n<p>De aankoop van hetzelfde voertuig via een financiering kan op het eerste gezicht goedkoper lijken, met maandelijkse betalingen voor de lening rond de \u20ac600-\u20ac650, maar zodra verzekering, onderhoud, banden en andere gebruikskosten worden meegerekend, kunnen de werkelijke maandelijkse kosten gemakkelijk boven de \u20ac800 uitkomen.<\/p>\n<p>In die context biedt private lease voorspelbare kosten en neemt het de risico's weg die gepaard gaan met afschrijvingen, wat vooral relevant is voor elektrische voertuigen waarvan de restwaarde onzeker blijft.<\/p>\n<p>Deze kloof tussen waargenomen en werkelijke kosten is cruciaal. Belgische consumenten vergelijken leasebetalingen eerder met afbetalingen van leningen dan met de volledige eigendomskosten.<\/p>\n<p>In markten zoals Nederland, waar auto's van de zaak veel minder voorkomen, zijn consumenten eerder geneigd om mobiliteit te beoordelen als een dienst met een all-in maandprijs. Dit mentaliteitsverschil verklaart deels waarom de adoptie van private lease hoger kan zijn, zelfs wanneer de absolute prijzen vergelijkbaar of hoger zijn dan in Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n<p>Toch is het onwaarschijnlijk dat Belgi\u00eb op korte termijn de kloof met zijn noorderburen zal dichten, tenzij het fiscale kader rond bedrijfswagens ingrijpend verandert. De Belgische private leasemarkt is niet zozeer onderontwikkeld als wel beperkt.
