Huawei heeft zijn XPixel-technologie onthuld, die de koplampen van een auto kan veranderen in een full-color bioscoopprojector. Chinese auto's worden steeds meer huizen op wielen.<\/b><\/p>\n

Terwijl de drive-in bioscoop een bekend romantisch kenmerk is uit de Amerikaanse popcultuur, is het nu China dat het concept nieuw leven probeert in te blazen door de technologie te upgraden. De projector wordt niet langer door de zaal bediend, maar verplaatst naar de voorkant van de auto.<\/p>\n

Op de Beijing Auto Show onthulde techgigant Huawei de nieuwste evolutie van zijn XPixel smart headlight platform. De nieuwe versie dumpt het monochrome palet van zijn voorgangers en gaat voor full color, waardoor de auto een 100-inch beeld kan projecteren op elke beschikbare muur met de helderheid die je zou verwachten van een speciale home cinema unit. Parkeren, richten, kijken. Het klinkt als een stunt, maar aangezien Aziaten hun auto zien als een verlengstuk van hun woonkamer, is het dat niet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Drie jaar in de maak<\/h4>\n

De onderliggende technologie van XPixel wordt al ongeveer drie jaar toegepast in productievoertuigen, met name in de Stelato S9, de premium sedan die gezamenlijk is ontwikkeld door Huawei en BAIC Motor. De koplampen van die auto kunnen al dingen doen die traditionele matrix-LED's alleen kennen uit films: navigatiepijlen rechtstreeks op het wegdek projecteren, voetgangers begeleiden bij het oversteken, rijstrookveranderingen aangeven met dynamische grondafbeeldingen en zelfs kinderen vermaken met interactieve hinkelpatronen op het asfalt voor de auto.<\/p>\n

Maar hier is de nieuwe full-color versie. Deze zal zijn debuut maken in de Aito M9 en neemt alle foefjes van de S9 en zet ze dan op elf door het volledige spectrum toe te voegen. Het maakt gebruik van DLP (Digital Light Processing) chiptechnologie, wat in principe hetzelfde principe is dat standalone projectoren aandrijft, en integreert het in wat nog steeds functioneert als een weg-legale koplamp. Het resultaat is een dubbel systeem. Een systeem dat de weg voor je verlicht en tegelijkertijd, bij stilstand, het dichtstbijzijnde oppervlak verandert in een persoonlijk buitenscherm. Aito gelooft dat het een belangrijk verkoopargument zal zijn voor zijn M lijn voertuigen.<\/p>\n

Licht als service<\/h4>\n

Het is begrijpelijk om XPixel te zien als een gimmick die op een conventionele koplamp wordt geschroefd. Maar er is meer aan de hand, want de XPixel kan ook actieve rijassistentie bieden. Het weergeven van die geleide paden bij het wisselen van rijstrook, het waarschuwen van voetgangers bij kruisingen en het in realtime over het wegdek leggen van navigatie-informatie verandert de koplamp in feite van een passief veiligheidsapparaat in een actief communicatiemiddel.<\/p>\n

Huawei breidt het concept ook naar binnen uit. Het bedrijf ontwikkelt ook een systeem dat beelden projecteert op oprolbare schermen achter de voorstoelen, of video kan afspelen vanaf een verhoogde achterklep.<\/p>\n

Europa had de blauwdruk<\/h4>\n

Het zou verleidelijk zijn om projectiekoplampen als een puur Chinese uitvinding te beschouwen. Maar dat is het niet. Audi onthulde zijn Digital Matrix Headlights in de e-tron Sportback in 2019 - 's werelds eerste productieauto die geanimeerde afbeeldingen op de weg projecteert met behulp van een zogenaamde Digital Micromirror Device-chip die werkt volgens precies hetzelfde optische principe als een bioscoopprojector.<\/p>\n

De nieuwste Audi Q3 upgrade de technologie naar micro-LED en projecteert live bochtgeleiding, rijstrookwaarschuwingen en dodehoekwaarschuwingen rechtstreeks op het asfalt. De technologie is er. Het verschil is wat Audi ermee wil doen: strikt functioneel, veiligheid voorop, alleen op de weg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Illegaal in de VS<\/h4>\n

Huawei nam dezelfde basis en voegde de entertainmentfunctionaliteit toe. Interessante twist: Audi's zes jaar oude systeem, dat voorzichtig en veiligheidsgericht is, blijft volledig illegaal in de Verenigde Staten, waar de regels voor adaptieve navigatiebundels pas onlangs werden bijgewerkt. China projecteert ondertussen Hollywood-kaskrakers in de nacht.<\/p>\n

In Europa bevinden verkeersprojectiesignalen zich in een juridische grijze zone die de regelgevende instanties nog maar net beginnen te defini\u00ebren. Filmprojectie in kleur vanuit een stilstaande koplamp is \u00e9\u00e9n ding; de geanimeerde begeleiding bij het wisselen van rijstrook die bij snelheid wordt geprojecteerd is iets heel anders.
