Sinds zaterdag is de belangrijkste metrotunnel van Antwerpen, die de Linkeroever met het stadscentrum verbindt, volledig gesloten voor een grootschalige renovatie. Als alles goed gaat, zal de renovatie ongeveer 11 maanden duren en naar verwachting eind maart 2027 voltooid zijn.<\/p>\n

Om een verkeersinfarct te vermijden, hebben de vervoersmaatschappijen De Lijn en NMBS en de Stad Antwerpen een reeks alternatieven ontwikkeld. Maar voor Antwerpenaars, pendelaars en bezoekers die het stadscentrum aan de Schelde willen bezoeken, kan het moeilijk zijn om zich aan te passen aan de veranderingen, vooral omdat de Oosterweelaanleg nog in volle gang is, waardoor het transportnetwerk nog meer onder druk komt te staan.<\/p>\n

Geen trams tussen de linker- en rechteroever<\/h4>\n

De bouwwerkzaamheden maken deel uit van een grootscheepse renovatie van het tramnet, waarvan delen meer dan 50 jaar oud zijn. De Vlaamse openbare vervoersmaatschappij De Lijn renoveert onder andere het spoorsysteem en zes kilometer spoor, de tunnels (die asbest bevatten) en technische installaties om de veiligheid en betrouwbaarheid te garanderen.<\/p>\n

Door de werkzaamheden wordt de tunnel langs het traject Opera - Meir - Groenplaats - Van Eden afgesloten en rijden er dus geen trams tussen de Linker- en Rechteroever.<\/p>\n

Op de rechteroever zullen de tram- en busdiensten grotendeels blijven bestaan, hoewel de premetroverbinding ook dienst doet als een belangrijke slagader voor het historische stadscentrum die moeilijk te vervangen is. Als gevolg daarvan zal tram 11 de enige verbinding naar het stadscentrum zijn voor mensen die normaal gesproken een van de vier ondergrondse tramlijnen gebruiken, met een frequentie van elke 7,5 minuten en slechte verbindingen met de rest van het tramnetwerk - met het Operaplein als belangrijkste overstappunt.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast zijn ook de andere tramlijnen op de Rechteroever drastisch gereorganiseerd. Lijnen 3 en 15 zijn samengevoegd tot Tram A3. Deze lijn rijdt tussen P+R Merksem en P+R Boechout. Lijnen 5 en 9 zijn samengevoegd tot Tram A9. Deze lijn verbindt Wijnegem met Berchem Station. Deze trams rijden niet via Station Opera, maar verbinden Astrid en Diamant via een alternatieve route.<\/p>\n

Alternatieven<\/h4>\n

Om alle vervoersproblemen aan te pakken - meer dan 2 miljoen reizigers per maand maken gebruik van de tramtunnel, met ongeveer 1700 passagiers tijdens de spits - zijn er een aantal alternatieven ontwikkeld om mensen van de rechteroever naar de linkeroever te laten reizen, of andersom.<\/p>\n

De belangrijkste verbinding is de P5 pendelbus tussen Opera en het Frederik van Eedenplein op de Linkeroever. Deze rijdt regelmatig via de Kennedytunnel.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast is het busvervoer op Linkeroever en in het Waasland uitgebreid en rijden er ook kleinere pendelbussen door de Waaslandtunnel tussen Linkeroever en het ZAS Cadix ziekenhuis op Rechteroever.<\/p>\n

Bovendien is een tijdelijk NMBS-station, Antwerpen-Linkeroever, heropend - na 42 jaar gesloten te zijn geweest. Van daaruit kun je met de S-trein of IC-trein rechtstreeks naar bestemmingen als Antwerpen-Centraal, Berchem en Gent. Voor bepaalde trajecten kunnen abonnees van De Lijn tijdelijk gratis gebruik maken van deze trein, al moeten ze wel eerst een aanvraagformulier indienen.<\/p>\n

Maar let op: het station is vrij moeilijk toegankelijk voor mensen met een handicap. Er rijden ook maar 2 treinen per uur in elke richting.<\/p>\n

Fietsers en voetgangers kunnen de Schelde blijven oversteken via de Sint-Annatunnel en de Kennedyfietstunnel. Daarnaast blijven de veerdiensten en DeWaterbus actief als belangrijke verbindingen en zal de veerdienst frequenter varen.<\/p>\n

Puzzel<\/h4>\n

In de eerste dagen na de sluiting van de premetrotunnel tussen Linkeroever en het stadscentrum reageerden forenzen met een gevoel van berusting, hoewel het voor velen die afhankelijk zijn van het openbaar vervoer om op tijd op school of op het werk te komen een raadsel blijft hoe ze zich moeten verplaatsen. Anderen hebben echter het gevoel dat het allemaal wel meevalt, of ze zien er een kans in en hebben uit angst voor de voorspelde verkeerschaos of langere pendeltijden een elektrische fiets aangeschaft.<\/p>\n

Mobiliteitsexpert Kris Peeters reageert in De Morgen echter zeer kritisch. \u201cDe inhaalwerken vallen samen met de Oosterweelaanleg, die voor heel wat files zorgt. Dit gebeurt net op het moment dat het openbaar vervoer aan verminderde capaciteit draait. Er is vooraf te weinig nagedacht over hoe dit in goede banen kan worden geleid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volgens Vlaams minister van Mobiliteit Annick De Ridder (N-VA) zouden de voorgestelde alternatieven voldoende moeten zijn.
