Ryanair wil verbod"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael O'Leary, CEO van Ryanair, wil alcohol verbieden op luchthavens in de ochtend, v\u00f3\u00f3r de reguliere openingstijden van restaurants en bars. De Ierse lagekostenmaatschappij moet naar verluidt bijna dagelijks een vlucht omleiden vanwege het gedrag van sommige passagiers.<\/p>\n<p>Naast het ochtendverbod op alcohol voor 10 uur 's ochtends, pleit hij er ook voor om elke passagier te beperken tot niet meer dan 2 drankjes op de luchthaven, waarbij die drankjes worden gecontroleerd via de instapkaart.<\/p>\n<h4>\u201cWie heeft er een biertje nodig op dat uur?\u201d<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cIk begrijp absoluut niet waarom mensen om vijf of zes uur \u201ds ochtends bediend worden in luchthavenbars. Wie heeft er op dat uur nog een biertje nodig?\u201c vertelde O'Leary aan The Times. \u201dAlcohol zou op die uren niet geserveerd moeten worden op vliegvelden.\"<\/p>\n<p>Zijn oproep was vooral gericht aan Ierse en Britse regelgevers. Bars en pubs in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland mogen over het algemeen pas vanaf 10 uur 's ochtends alcohol schenken, maar luchthavenbars zijn vrijgesteld van die regel, waardoor ze al vanaf 5 of 6 uur 's ochtends bier mogen schenken.<\/p>\n<p>En goedkope vluchten van Ryanair van het VK naar Spanje, Griekenland of Ierland (vooral Dublin) zijn al tientallen jaren populair voor vrijgezellenfeesten en vrijgezellenfeesten. Die combinatie heeft het beeld van de \u201cdronken Brit op de vroege vlucht naar Benidorm\u201d in de populaire cultuur gecementeerd.<\/p>\n<p>Maar tegelijkertijd haalde de CEO ook hard uit naar de bars en restaurants op de luchthavens zelf, die volgens hem \u201cmaar al te graag zoveel alcohol schenken als deze mensen willen in het geval van vluchtvertragingen, omdat ze weten dat ze daarna de schuld op de luchtvaartmaatschappijen kunnen schuiven\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Opwaartse trend<\/h4>\n<p>Ryanair zegt dat het nu bijna elke dag een vlucht moet omleiden vanwege ongepast gedrag aan boord, vergeleken met ongeveer \u00e9\u00e9n keer per week voorheen. De Ierse luchtvaartautoriteit registreerde ook niet minder dan 197 meldingen van ongepast gedrag van passagiers in 2025, een stijging van 23% ten opzichte van het voorgaande jaar. Bijna de helft van die gevallen had te maken met alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>De International Air Transport Association (IATA) stelt ook expliciet dat de meeste alcoholgerelateerde incidenten worden veroorzaakt door alcoholgebruik voor de vlucht.<\/p>\n<p>Ryanair had in juni al aangekondigd dat het een boete van \u20ac500 zou opleggen aan \u201cpassagiers die de orde verstoren en wier gedrag ertoe leidt dat ze uit het vliegtuig worden verwijderd\u201d. In ten minste \u00e9\u00e9n geval heeft de luchtvaartmaatschappij al juridische stappen ondernomen en een schadevergoeding van \u20ac15.000 ge\u00ebist van een passagier die een vlucht van 2024 van Dublin naar Lanzarote verstoorde.<\/p>\n<p>En vandaag heeft de strafrechtbank van Toulouse twee onhandelbare passagiers veroordeeld die Ryanair vlucht FR9251 van Londen Stansted naar Ibiza op 17 mei 2025 hebben verstoord, waardoor meer dan 184 passagiers en 6 bemanningsleden moesten uitwijken naar Toulouse nadat deze twee passagiers zich beledigend uitlieten tegen medepassagiers en geen gehoor gaven aan de instructies van de bemanning. Deze passagiers werden schuldig bevonden en beiden kregen voorwaardelijke straffen tot 10 maanden, met een gecombineerde boete van meer dan \u20ac10.000.<\/p>\n<h4>Niet beperkt tot Ryanair<\/h4>\n<p>Het probleem van dronken of beschonken passagiers is zeker niet beperkt tot Ryanair. Onlangs werden twee dronken passagiers gearresteerd na een vechtpartij op een Jet2 vlucht op de luchthaven van Leeds. En de Amerikaanse Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) registreerde een enorme piek in ongepaste incidenten na de COVID-19 lockdowns, met een piek van 5.973 gevallen.<\/p>\n<p>De FAA riep vervolgens op tot een nultolerantiebeleid en verbood zichtbaar dronken passagiers aan boord te gaan. Het aantal gevallen nam daarna sterk af, maar het probleem is nooit verdwenen.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-185934 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Austrian-Spirits.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Austrian-Spirits.jpg?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Austrian-Spirits.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Het voorstel pakt het probleem slechts gedeeltelijk aan<\/h4>\n<p>Luchthavenuitbaters en horecagelegenheden hebben zich traditioneel verzet tegen algemene alcoholbeperkingen met het argument dat de meeste reizigers verantwoord drinken.<\/p>\n<p>Luchthavens hebben vaak ook hun eigen huisregels. Brussels Airport, bijvoorbeeld, stelt expliciet in haar huisregels dat alcoholische dranken enkel mogen genuttigd worden in bars en restaurants, en dat het verboden is om dronken, bedwelmd of onder invloed van drugs te zijn op de luchthaven.<\/p>\n<p>De vraag is ook of het voorstel van O'Leary om passagiers op luchthavens te beperken tot maximaal twee alcoholische dranken per instapkaart haalbaar is, en of het schrappen van dat vroege venster echte en specifieke problemen kan oplossen die voortkomen uit het feit dat sommige eet- en drankgelegenheden op luchthavens 24 uur per dag open zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Niemand houdt passagiers tegen om thuis voor vertrek te drinken, belastingvrije alcohol te kopen en aan boord te openen, of om na 10 uur 's ochtends voor een middagvlucht stevig door te drinken, laat staan onbeperkt gratis alcohol te nuttigen in de lounge.<\/p>\n<p>De European Cockpit Association, de Europese pilotenvakbond, pleit daarom voor strengere handhaving en betere wetgeving in plaats van een eenvoudige alcohollimiet.<\/p>\n<p>De brancheorganisatie Airports Council International Europe stelt dat handhaving gericht moet zijn op individuen in plaats van een algeheel verbod, maar heeft toegezegd in gesprek te gaan met luchtvaartmaatschappijen en belastingvrije detailhandelaren.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ryanair CEO Michael O&#8217;Leary wants to ban alcohol in airports in the morning, before regular restaurant and bar opening hours.
