Door de seizoensgebonden zwakkere vraag in Europa is het eerste kwartaal structureel verliesgevend voor Europa's grootste luchtvaartgroep, de moedermaatschappij van Brussels Airlines. Bovendien is het verlies 15% lager dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar.<\/p>\n<p>Voor het hele jaar 2026 verwacht het bedrijf een winststijging van 10% ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Voor reizigers zullen de ticketprijzen echter waarschijnlijk licht stijgen door de stijgende brandstofprijzen als gevolg van de crisis in het Midden-Oosten.<\/p>\n<h4>Hogere winsten dankzij oorlog<\/h4>\n<p>De Lufthansa Group kan zelfs van die oorlog profiteren. Er is zelfs sprake van een \u201crobuuste vraag\u201d omdat passagiers de hubs rond de Perzische Golf mijden en kiezen voor andere hubs, waaronder die van Lufthansa. De omzet steeg in het eerste kwartaal met 8% tot 8,75 miljard euro.<\/p>\n<p>Toch is die oorlog ook de grootste boosdoener: de geopolitieke onrust in het Midden-Oosten maakt vliegtuigbrandstof aanzienlijk duurder, wat op de kosten drukt. Voor heel 2026 schat Lufthansa de brandstofrekening op bijna 9 miljard euro, een extra kostenpost van 1,7 miljard euro. Lufthansa verwacht ook dat de beschikbaarheid van brandstof later in het jaar zal afnemen, hoewel Lufthansa ongeveer 80% van haar brandstofbehoefte voor 2026 heeft afgedekt.<\/p>\n<h4>10% stijging van de bedrijfswinst<\/h4>\n<p>Deze hogere kosten hebben natuurlijk gevolgen voor de ticketprijzen en vluchtschema's. Om de kosten te drukken werden tot oktober al 20.000 vluchten geannuleerd. CEO Carsten Spohr wil ook de ticketprijzen verhogen.<\/p>\n<p>De financi\u00eble vooruitzichten voor Lufthansa, dat ook eigenaar is van SWISS, Austrian Airlines, ITA Airways en Eurowings, blijven ongewijzigd, met een bedrijfsresultaat dat naar verwachting aanzienlijk hoger zal zijn dan in 2025, normaal gesproken minstens 10% hoger.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-186021 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Visual-zonder-titel.png?resize=640%2C358&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"358\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Bijna 2 miljoen passagiers<\/h4>\n<p>Bij dochteronderneming Brussels Airlines woog het conflict tussen de VS\/Isra\u00ebl en Iran ook op de resultaten van het eerste kwartaal. Zo lagen de brandstofkosten per beschikbare stoelkilometer ongeveer 14% hoger dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar.<\/p>\n<p>Brussels Airlines boekte ook een operationeel verlies van 55 miljoen euro - tegenover 53 miljoen euro in dezelfde periode vorig jaar. In totaal voerde de luchtvaartmaatschappij 11% meer vluchten uit (15.000) in de eerste drie maanden, met 14,5% meer passagiers (1,88 miljoen). De inkomsten stegen met 12,8% tot 343 miljoen euro, maar dit werd tenietgedaan door hogere kosten (+11,5% tot 417 miljoen euro).<\/p>\n<h4>De vraag blijft hoog<\/h4>\n<p>Januari en februari waren sterke maanden. De capaciteit was zelfs 18% hoger dan vorig jaar en de vraag blijft hoog, met een duidelijke focus op routes naar Afrika bezuiden de Sahara. De positieve trend werd echter onderbroken in maart, met een groei van slechts 1%, deels als gevolg van een nationale arbeidersstaking die resulteerde in een verlies van 1 miljoen euro en natuurlijk de oplopende spanningen in het Midden-Oosten.<\/p>\n<p>Brussels Airlines wil geen voorspellingen doen voor de zomermaanden. Wel zegt de maatschappij de capaciteit op haar Europese netwerk te kunnen verhogen dankzij geannuleerde vluchten naar het Midden-Oosten en de vroege inzet van een Airbus A320neo.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-186022 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Table.png?resize=633%2C353&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"633\" height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Onzekerheden, maar winst aan de horizon<\/h4>\n<p>Voorlopig zijn er geen plannen om het vluchtschema te wijzigen, al blijft de grote vraag hoe lang de blokkade van de Straat van Hormuz zal duren. CEO Dorothea von Boxberg bevestigde dat Brussels Airlines garanties heeft gekregen van haar brandstofleveranciers over de kerosineleveringen voor de komende 4 tot 6 weken. \u201cOns partnerschap met onze moedermaatschappij Lufthansa, een van de grootste kerosineverbruikers in Europa, is in dit opzicht een groot voordeel voor ons gebleken\u201d, aldus de CEO.<\/p>\n<p>Von Boxberg noemt de angst van reizigers dat vluchten worden geannuleerd vanwege <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/04\/20\/is-a-worst-case-scenario-looming-with-europe-running-out-of-jet-fuel-within-six-weeks\/\">brandstoftekorten<\/a> overdreven. \u201cEr zal altijd brandstof zijn; door de problemen in het Midden-Oosten zien we nu zelfs nieuwe ladingen uit andere regio's binnenkomen.
