{"id":186004,"date":"2026-05-08T11:11:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T09:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=186004"},"modified":"2026-05-15T16:10:37","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T14:10:37","slug":"is-geely-choosing-valencia-over-ghent-for-european-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/05\/08\/is-geely-choosing-valencia-over-ghent-for-european-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Verkiest Geely Valencia boven Gent voor Europese productie?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Terwijl dochterbedrijf Volvo worstelt met overcapaciteit en de fabriek in Gent relevantie nodig heeft door de productie van Chinese modellen, meldt de Spaanse outlet La Tribuna de Automocion dat moederbedrijf Geely in gesprek is om een deel van de Ford-fabriek in Spanje te kopen.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese merken voeren hun productieambities in Europa op om de EU-tarieven op in China gebouwde elektrische auto's met accu's te omzeilen. BYD koos Hongarije en mogelijk VW's fabriek in Dresden, Xpeng besteedde uit aan Magna-Steyr in Oostenrijk, terwijl de Chery Group de voormalige fabriek van Nissan kocht in de buitenwijken van Barcelona en Leapmotor een deal heeft met Stellantis voor productiecapaciteit in Zaragoza.<\/p>\n<p>Tot slot heeft MG aangekondigd dat het zijn zoektocht heeft verkleind en een locatie overweegt in Ferrol, in het noordwesten van Spanje. Spanje wordt steeds meer het centrum voor Chinese productie in Europa.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Body 3 montagehal<\/h4>\n<p>Deze deals zijn nog maar het begin. Een grotere golf van Chinese productie zal Europa bereiken. Het is een belangrijke evolutie die ook de activiteiten van de laatste Belgische autofabriek toekomstbestendig kan maken: Volvo in Gent. Het merk is volledig in handen van Geely, dat zich ook onder zijn eigen naam in Europa waagt. Het ligt voor de hand dat de Chinese groep de voorkeur zou geven aan zijn eigen infrastructuur.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Maar La Tribuna lekte een andere strategie uit. Blijkbaar wil het moederbedrijf van Volvo investeren in de fabriek van Ford in Valencia, die ook kampt met overcapaciteit. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Naar verluidt wil de Chinese groep de Body 3 assemblagehal in Valencia kopen, waardoor de autofabrikant zijn eigen aparte productielijn voor zijn merk Geely zou kunnen exploiteren. Deze hal is de modernste assemblagehal van de fabriek en werd ontworpen voor Ford's voormalige midsize platformvoertuigen: de Mondeo, Galaxy en S-Max, die drie jaar geleden allemaal uit productie werden genomen. Alleen de Kuga wordt momenteel nog in de fabriek gebouwd.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>GEA-architectuur?<\/h4>\n<p>Bronnen hebben La Tribuna verteld dat Geely van plan is een model te bouwen op basis van zijn GEA-platform (Global Intelligent Electric Architecture). Deze architectuur kan worden gebruikt voor kleine, compacte, middelgrote en grote auto's met een batterij-elektrische of plug-in hybride aandrijving. Mogelijk kan Ford zelf een elektrisch model op die architectuur bouwen.<\/p>\n<p>Afgezien van de langdurige diplomatieke en politieke betrekkingen van Spanje met China, kan de keuze voor deze onderstellen verklaren waarom Geely zich niet tot Gent wendt, dat steunt op het SEA-E-platform van de EX30.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Productie in Valencia zou Chinese modellen die in Gent worden gemaakt niet helemaal uitsluiten, afhankelijk van hoeveel modellen Geely in Europa wil produceren. Terwijl de autofabrikant met onder andere Zeekr, Polestar en Lynk &amp; Co meerdere merken heeft die passen bij de Europese markten.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Maar als de bronnen van La Tribuna kloppen, laat dit zien hoe de lage lonen in Spanje en het imago van Pedro Sanchez als de meest China-vriendelijke premier in Europa (hij heeft tegen de importtarieven gestemd) het Europese autofabricagelandschap een nieuwe vorm geven.<\/p>\n<p>Dit geldt echter ook voor westerse merken. In het kader van het PERTE-programma heeft de Volkswagen Group 10 miljard euro ge\u00efnvesteerd in het ombouwen van de infrastructuur van Seat om een e-mobility hub op te zetten in Spanje. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>\u201cSpeculatie\u201d<\/h4>\n<p>Geely reageerde niet onmiddellijk op verzoeken om commentaar. Een woordvoerder van Ford zei tegen Reuters dat de berichten \u201cspeculaties\u201d waren en weigerde verder commentaar te geven. In eerdere verklaringen hebben beide bedrijven gezegd dat ze \u201cvoortdurend in gesprek zijn met verschillende partners, maar dat er nog niets is afgerond\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Afgezien van speculatie is Geely zeker op zoek naar productiecapaciteit in Europa om het opgelegde tarief van 18,8% op zijn BEV-import uit China te vermijden.
