Het Chinese merk MG (onderdeel van SAIC Motor) en de Belgische importeur Astara hebben een overeenkomst bereikt waarbij MG Europe vanaf 1 juli zelf auto's gaat importeren. Ondertussen overweegt het op \u00e9\u00e9n na grootste Chinese automerk in Belgi\u00eb, BYD, hetzelfde te doen.<\/p>\n

De distributie van MG in Belgi\u00eb en Luxemburg zal vanaf deze zomer worden georganiseerd door een nationale verkoopmaatschappij onder de vleugels van MG Europe. De huidige importeur Astara en MG zullen samenwerken om deze overgang zo soepel mogelijk te laten verlopen. Om een stabiele overdracht te garanderen en mogelijke verstoringen voor klanten te beperken, zullen de bestaande dealers grotendeels behouden blijven in het nieuwe distributieschema.<\/p>\n

Snelle groei<\/h4>\n

MG, sinds 2020 ge\u00efmporteerd door Astara, is snel gegroeid in de Belux om het belangrijkste Chinese merk op de markt te worden. MG's portfolio omvat momenteel 9 modellen en in 2025 registreerde het merk bijna 6.000 verkopen, met een marktaandeel van meer dan 1,5%. In de eerste 4 maanden van dit jaar heeft MG al 2.620 eenheden verkocht, een stijging van 81% ten opzichte van vorig jaar en goed voor bijna 1,75% marktaandeel.<\/p>\n

Astara zal zich nu in de eerste plaats richten op de andere merken in zijn importeursportfolio, zoals Hyundai, Suzuki, Isuzu, Maxus en KG Mobility, maar het zal zeker uitkijken naar nieuwe importmogelijkheden.<\/p>\n

Nieuwe trend?<\/h4>\n

Wanneer nieuwe Chinese autofabrikanten de Belux of Europese markt betreden, doen ze vaak een beroep op bestaande onafhankelijke Europese of lokale auto-importeurs. In Belgi\u00eb importeren importgroepen zoals het Britse Inchcape of het Zweedse Hedin bijvoorbeeld Chinese merken zoals BYD (Inchcape) of Nio, Firefly, Hongqi of Xpeng (Hedin).<\/p>\n

Maar naarmate deze Chinese merken aan populariteit winnen, denken hun Europese of wereldwijde hoofdkantoren dat het rendabeler is om de auto's zelf te importeren dan om anderen te betalen voor de distributie. Het Europese hoofdkantoor van BYD (in Nederland) heeft al besloten dat de nummer twee van de Chinese autofabrikanten in Belgi\u00eb een eigen verkooporganisatie krijgt in Nederland en Duitsland, waardoor de lokale importeurs Louwman en Hedin opzij worden geschoven.<\/p>\n

Hetzelfde is gepland voor dit land, wat betekent dat Inchcape (ook de importeur van Toyota en Lexus in Belgi\u00eb en Luxemburg) zijn importeurstatus zal verliezen, maar nog steeds BYD's zal verkopen via zijn strategisch gepositioneerde dealers in Antwerpen, Brussel en Gent.<\/p>\n

De groeiende impact van Chinese fabrikanten in Europa kan niet worden overschat. Het verkoopvolume van Chinese merken in Belgi\u00eb verdubbelt praktisch elk jaar, ook omdat ze steeds meer hybride (PHEV en andere) en ICE-auto's verkopen, die niet onderhevig zijn aan de EU-invoertarieven op Chinese BEV's.<\/p>\n
