Duurzaam reizen in Europa is niet langer een nichemarkt; het is een beweging, net als slow travel. Niet alleen stijgen de vlieg- en autokosten door de crisis in het Midden-Oosten, maar veel mensen met vakantieplannen zijn op zoek naar alternatieven.<\/p>\n

Naast een treinreis of een actieve fiets- of wandelvakantie is reizen per zeilboot ook een duurzaam alternatief. De uitstoot is immers vrijwel nihil als je op windkracht vaart. Dit is een van de redenen waarom duurzame stedentrips per zeilboot aan populariteit winnen.<\/p>\n

Eindeloos naar de horizon staren<\/h4>\n

Voor veel Europese bestemmingen hoef je echt geen vliegtuig of auto te nemen. En zeker niet als je milieubewust wilt reizen. Wereldwijd is toerisme verantwoordelijk voor bijna 9% van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen. Vliegreizen hebben een aanzienlijke impact: recente studies schatten dat de luchtvaart verantwoordelijk is voor ongeveer de helft van de directe uitstoot van de toeristische sector.<\/p>\n

Volgens het Kennisinstituut voor Mobiliteitsbeleid (KiM) zijn vliegreizen zelfs verantwoordelijk voor 74% van de CO2-uitstoot van alle vakanties, terwijl autovakanties goed zijn voor ongeveer 19%.<\/p>\n

Een zeilverbinding op windkracht kan ook de perfecte gewetensbezwaarde consument zijn. Bovendien kun je lekker langzaam varen, eindeloos naar de horizon of de meeuwen staren en de wind slaat zelfs de bladzijden om van die roman die je al zo lang wilt lezen.<\/p>\n

Zeil mee met een 130 jaar oud schip<\/h4>\n

Belgi\u00eb heeft nog geen uitgebreid netwerk van duurzaam varende stedentrips zoals Nederland of Scandinavi\u00eb, maar er is een kleine markt voor reizen met windondersteuning aan het ontstaan - voornamelijk vanuit Oostende, Nieuwpoort en Antwerpen.<\/p>\n

Fair Ferry onderscheidt zich van dit aanbod: zij willen van de zeereis zelf een alternatief maken voor de traditionele stedentrip. Na een succesvolle eerste editie organiseren ze deze zomer opnieuw een volledig door wind aangedreven vaarroute tussen Rotterdam en Antwerpen.<\/p>\n

De reis van Rotterdam naar Antwerpen, of andersom, vindt plaats aan boord van zeilschip Bonnefooi, een 130 jaar oud schip, en duurt 7 dagen, waarvan 5 op zee en 2 in de stad van bestemming. De prijs voor de hele periode is \u20ac4.950.<\/p>\n

Tijdens de tocht vaar je door Nationaal Park Oosterschelde, langs de Grevelingen (het grootste zoutwatermeer van Europa) en door de Zeeuwse Delta. Onderweg is er tijd om te zwemmen, aan land te gaan en plekken te ontdekken die voor de meeste reizigers verborgen blijven als je een ander vervoermiddel kiest.<\/p>\n

Gasten kunnen ook actief deelnemen aan het zeilen aan boord, bijvoorbeeld door te helpen met zeilen hijsen, navigeren of sturen, maar niets is verplicht. Juist deze gedeelde ervaring maakt een tocht bijzonder, benadrukken schippers Anna Dupont en Paul Lansbergen. \u201cSchippers en gasten vormen tijdelijk een kleine gemeenschap aan boord.\u201d Of, zoals ze het zelf zeggen: De reis zelf wordt onderdeel van de ervaring, waardoor deze stedentrip niet alleen milieuvriendelijk, maar ook betekenisvoller wordt.<\/p>\n

Fair Ferry is zeker niet het enige bedrijf dat zo'n alternatieve reis organiseert. EcoClipper is een Nederlands bedrijf dat vracht vervoert per zeilschip en passagiers vervoert, met de ambitie om wereldwijd te gaan varen.<\/p>\n

Voor wie op zoek is naar een meer avontuurlijke ervaring is er ook Find A Crew, een platform waar scheepseigenaren en bemanningsleden met elkaar in contact kunnen komen en beoordelingen kunnen achterlaten.<\/p>\n

Cargo Ship Voyages biedt ook langere reizen op vrachtschepen aan, hoewel deze wel uitstoot met zich meebrengen, waaronder routes tussen Europese havens. Cargoholidays organiseert reizen op vrachtschepen en zeilschepen voor reizigers die er bewust voor kiezen om langzaam en met minder uitstoot te reizen.<\/p>\n
