Afgelopen vrijdag kondigden Stellantis en Leapmotor aan dat ze onderzoeken hoe ze hun strategische samenwerking kunnen uitbreiden door middel van een reeks initiatieven om voort te bouwen op het vroege succes van hun samenwerking. Ondertussen heeft het Duitse merk van Stellantis, Opel, de gezamenlijke ontwikkeling van een nieuwe elektrische SUV met Leapmotor officieel bevestigd. We zullen daarover in detail in een apart artikel.<\/a><\/p>\n

De intentie om het strategische partnerschap uit te breiden is gericht op verschillende niveaus. Ten eerste, het verhogen van de productie in de fabriek van Stellantis in Zaragoza, de historische productielocatie van Opel, waar een volledig nieuwe elektrische C-SUV op batterijen zou worden toegevoegd op een nieuwe lijn naast het C-SUV B10-model van Leapmotor.<\/p>\n

Ten tweede, ervoor zorgen dat de in Zaragoza geproduceerde nieuwe Opel C-SUV kan profiteren van componenten die mogelijk zijn gemaakt door het ecosysteem van Leapmotor International (LPMI), waardoor de betaalbaarheid wordt verbeterd. Ten derde, het uitbreiden van LPMI's gezamenlijke inkoopinitiatieven om de Europese BEV van Stellantis betaalbaarder te maken en de time-to-market voor nieuwe modellen te versnellen. En ten vierde, het versterken van de toekomst van Stellantis\u2019 fabriek in Villaverde, Madrid, door het toewijzen van Leapmotor's toekomstige producten voor de Europese en wereldwijde markten.<\/p>\n

Kort historisch overzicht<\/h4>\n

In oktober 2023 werd Stellantis de grootste aandeelhouder van Leapmotor door het verwerven van een belang van ongeveer 21%. Tegelijkertijd werd Leapmotor International (LPMI) gelanceerd als een 51% Stellantis\/49% Leapmotor joint venture met exclusieve rechten op de verkoop en productie van Leapmotor producten buiten Groot-China.<\/p>\n

Het LPMI-bedrijf heeft de afgelopen 18 maanden een sterke groei doorgemaakt in Europa. Sinds de lancering van de modellen T03 en C10 in 2024 heeft LPMI haar aanwezigheid in de hele regio uitgebreid tot meer dan 850 verkooppunten en service, met meer dan 40.000 verzendingen in Europa in 2025.<\/p>\n

In 2025 breidde LPMI haar activiteiten uit naar Zuid-Amerika, Azi\u00eb-Pacific, het Midden-Oosten en Afrika en introduceerde het merk in april 2026 in Mexico.<\/p>\n

Uitgebreide samenwerking<\/h4>\n

Zoals reeds vermeld, zijn Stellantis en Leapmotor van plan hun samenwerking als volgt te verdiepen en uit te breiden. Ten eerste, om de productie in de Figueruelas-fabriek van Stellantis in Zaragoza, Spanje, aanzienlijk te verhogen, onderzoeken de partijen de toevoeging van een nieuwe lijn voor de productie van het gloednieuwe C-SUV BEV-model van Opel. De timing wordt nog ge\u00ebvalueerd, inclusief een mogelijke productiestart in 2028.<\/p>\n

Dit zou bovenop de huidige productie van de Peugeot 208 en de Lancia Ypsilon in Figueruelas komen. Leapmotor zou ook de productie van zijn C-SUV B10-model naar de fabriek brengen, mogelijk al vanaf 2026. De nieuwe Opel C-SUV, die in aanmerking komt voor productie in Figueruelas, zou ook profiteren van zeer concurrerende onderdelen van LPMI, wat de betaalbaarheid voor Europese klanten aanzienlijk zou verbeteren.<\/p>\n

Ten tweede zouden Stellantis en Leapmotor ook samenwerken op het gebied van inkoop via LPMI, door gebruik te maken van hun gecombineerde schaal en kracht. Het doel zou zijn om het prijsconcurrentievermogen te verbeteren door gebruik te maken van het Chinese ecosysteem voor nieuwe energievoertuigen, terwijl de capaciteiten van de Europese toeleveringsketen worden gebruikt om de veerkracht te versterken en de time-to-market voor nieuwe modellen te versnellen.<\/p>\n

Tot slot, om de toekomst van de fabriek in Villaverde, Madrid, aanzienlijk te versterken, omvat de geplande uitbreiding mogelijk de toewijzing van een nieuw Leapmotorvoertuig aan de fabriek, met een mogelijke timing vanaf de eerste helft van 2028. Dit zou met name relevant zijn in het licht van het geplande einde van de productie van de Citro\u00ebn C4 in deze fabriek.<\/p>\n

Tegelijkertijd wordt het eigendom van de fabriek besproken met het oog op een mogelijke overdracht aan de Spaanse dochteronderneming van LPMI. De productie in Villaverde zou in lijn zijn met de toekomstige Made-in-Europe eisen en de voertuigen zouden door LPMI op de Europese, Midden-Oosten en Afrika (MEA) markten worden gecommercialiseerd.<\/p>\n
