Lufthansa, Europa's grootste luchtvaartgroep, zal haar optie uitoefenen om haar belang in de Italiaanse luchtvaartmaatschappij ITA Airways uit te breiden van 41% naar 90%. De Duitse luchtvaartgroep betaalt 325 miljoen euro voor de tweede tranche.<\/p>\n

De transactie zal naar verwachting in het eerste kwartaal van 2027 worden afgerond. In 2028 kan Lufthansa de resterende 10% kopen van de Italiaanse overheid.<\/p>\n

5e netwerk drager<\/h4>\n

ITA Airways, ontstaan uit de as van de voormalige Italiaanse nationale luchtvaartmaatschappij Alitalia, is de vijfde \u2018netwerkmaatschappij\u2019 in het portfolio van de Duitse luchtvaartgroep, naast Lufthansa Airlines, Swiss, Austrian Airlines en Brussels Airlines.<\/p>\n

De transactie<\/a> moet nog worden goedgekeurd door de Europese Commissie en het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie - de laatste vanwege de zogenaamde A+++ trans-Atlantische joint venture.<\/p>\n

De A++ joint venture stelt aangesloten luchtvaartmaatschappijen in staat om netwerken te co\u00f6rdineren en inkomsten te delen, een belangrijk concurrentievoordeel op trans-Atlantische routes. United Airlines, Lufthansa en Air Canada zijn al lid en ITA Airways wil ook toetreden.<\/p>\n

Dit vereist speciale \u2018antitrustimmuniteit\u2019 van de Amerikaanse overheid. In die context zullen ITA of Lufthansa waarschijnlijk concessies moeten doen, zoals het vrijgeven van slots op routes als Rome-New York aan concurrenten.<\/p>\n

\u201cNa de verwerving van het eerste 41%-belang in ITA Airways vorig jaar, beloofden we de snelste integratie van luchtvaartmaatschappijen in onze geschiedenis\u201d, aldus CEO Carsten Spohr. \u201cWe streefden ernaar om alle belangrijke integratiestappen in de Lufthansa Group binnen slechts 18 maanden af te ronden. We hebben ons niet alleen aan deze belofte gehouden. We waren zelfs sneller: Alle klantgerichte interfaces zijn vandaag al ge\u00efntegreerd, met uitzondering van de Noord-Atlantische vluchten, waar zoals bekend de wettelijke goedkeuring voor onze fusie nog op zich laat wachten.\u201d<\/p>\n

ITA Airways exploiteert een uniforme vloot van 99 vliegtuigen (22 wide-body en 77 narrow-body), waarvan meer dan 60% modellen van de nieuwe generatie zijn en voldoen aan de allernieuwste normen, ook op het gebied van kerosineverbruik en dus CO2-uitstoot.<\/p>\n

Nog meer uitbreidingen in het verschiet?<\/h4>\n

Ondertussen is Lufthansa ook in de race voor een minderheidsbelang in luchtvaartmaatschappij TAP Air Portugal. De maatschappij krijgt concurrentie van de Frans-Nederlandse groep Air France-KLM.<\/p>\n

De bestaande hubs van Lufthansa - Frankfurt, M\u00fcnchen, Z\u00fcrich, Wenen en Brussel - bevinden zich allemaal in Centraal- en Noord-Europa. Door Zuid-Europese hubs aan te schaffen, kan Lufthansa haar aanwezigheid in die regio consolideren en haar langeafstandsnetwerk uitbreiden via Rome en Lissabon.<\/p>\n
