Geconfronteerd met een krimpend marktaandeel en overcapaciteit, herori\u00ebnteert Stellantis zijn wereldwijde strategie door zwaar te leunen op zijn historische Chinese partner Dongfeng. De twee autoconcerns hebben een strategische overeenkomst aangekondigd om nieuwe elektrische voertuigen voor de export in China te produceren. Dit laat zien hoe westerse autofabrikanten steeds meer vertrouwen op de effici\u00ebntie van de Chinese productie.<\/p>\n

Toen Peugeot-Citro\u00ebn onder de naam PSA ging varen, ging het een joint venture aan met de Chinese fabrikant Dongfeng (DPCA) om de ontluikende markt te betreden. Die overeenkomst is nu 34 jaar oud. Die langdurige overeenkomst krijgt nu een flinke financi\u00eble injectie van Stellantis, de huidige eigenaar van de Franse merken.<\/p>\n

Samen met de lokale autoriteiten injecteert de groep meer dan 8 miljard yuan (ongeveer \u20ac1 miljard), waarbij Stellantis ongeveer \u20ac130 miljoen bijdraagt.<\/p>\n

Peugeot en Jeep<\/h4>\n

De verschuiving is dat Stellantis in China niet langer voor China bouwt, maar ook voor de exportmarkten. Vanaf 2027 zal de DPCA-fabriek in Wuhan twee nieuwe \u2018new energy\u2019 (ge\u00eblektrificeerde) Peugeot-modellen produceren. De fabriek zal ook twee plug-in hybride terreinwagens van Jeep produceren, exclusief voor de internationale markten.<\/p>\n

Volgens verklaringen van Antonio Filosa, CEO van Stellantis, is het de bedoeling om de krachten van beide entiteiten te bundelen om baanbrekende elektrische technologie\u00ebn in te zetten. Dongfeng voorzitter Yang Qing merkte op dat de samenwerking een noodzakelijke impuls zal geven aan de DPCA alliantie, die haar productie de afgelopen jaren sterk heeft zien afnemen door de snelle opkomst van binnenlandse Chinese concurrenten.<\/p>\n

Noodzakelijk huwelijk<\/h4>\n

De heropleving van dit partnerschap komt dus op een kritiek moment voor beide bedrijven. Sinds de oprichting in 2021 heeft Stellantis een scherpe daling in zijn kernregio's meegemaakt. Tegen 2025 was haar Europese marktaandeel gedaald van 22% naar 16%, terwijl haar aanwezigheid in de Verenigde Staten was gekrompen van 11,6% naar 8,2%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dongfeng, een staatsbedrijf dat in 2014 een belang van 14% verwierf in een PSA Group in moeilijkheden (nu verwaterd tot 1,6% van Stellantis), wordt geconfronteerd met zijn eigen binnenlandse druk. Dongfeng had ooit een marktaandeel van 14% op de Chinese markt door al zijn joint ventures, maar vorig jaar waren zijn eigen merken goed voor slechts 2,3% van de binnenlandse verkoop. Beide bedrijven moeten hun activiteiten nieuw leven inblazen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ook in Europa<\/h4>\n

De verdiepte alliantie maakt deel uit van een bredere industri\u00eble ommezwaai. Om te kunnen concurreren met de toestroom van kosteneffectieve Chinese elektrische voertuigen, is Stellantis agressief op zoek naar partnerschappen om zijn toeleveringsketen te optimaliseren en overtollige capaciteit in zijn Europese fabrieken te absorberen. De groep heeft al aangekondigd dat de autofabricage in Poissy, vlakbij Parijs, vanaf 2028 wordt stopgezet.<\/p>\n

De groep is ook samenwerken met Leapmotor<\/a>, van plan om voertuigen te produceren in zijn fabrieken in Zaragoza en Madrid om de gaten op te vullen. Naar verluidt wordt een verkoop van de fabriek in Madrid aan de joint venture Leapmotor overwogen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En daar blijft het niet bij. Uit onbevestigde persberichten blijkt dat Stellantis mogelijk onderbenutte faciliteiten aanbiedt aan Dongfeng. Namen op die lijst zijn de Citro\u00ebn-fabriek in Rennes, Frankrijk, evenals vestigingen in Itali\u00eb (Cassino) en Duitsland.<\/p>\n

Hoewel Stellantis geen commentaar heeft gegeven op deze berichten, sluiten deze overwegingen aan bij een bredere trend in de sector; BYD, dat in de race is om de fabriek in Dresden van Volkswagen te kopen, en Xpeng zijn ook actief op zoek naar Europese productiemiddelen om mogelijke handelstarieven te omzeilen.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
