Ondertussen bevestigde Xpeng gesprekken met Volkswagen over het gebruik van een fabriek in Europa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tegen het einde van 2024 hadden de spanningen tussen het management en de werknemers van Volkswagen een kritiek punt bereikt. De autofabrikant dreigde fabrieken te sluiten, terwijl de werknemers zich verzetten tegen de immense druk en wijdverspreide stakingen dreigden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volkswagen en de Duitse vakbond IG Metall bereikten echter een overeenkomst. <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2024\/12\/23\/vw-wont-close-plants-in-germany-but-will-produce-less-with-fewer-people\/\">een compromis<\/a> in het collectieve onderhandelingsgeschil kort voor Kerstmis 2024, waardoor grote fabriekssluitingen werden afgewend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In ruil daarvoor omvat de overeenkomst een vermindering van 35.000 banen tegen 2030, terwijl VW van plan is om de productiecapaciteit in Duitsland met meer dan 700.000 voertuigen te verminderen, waaronder batterij-elektrische modellen. Destijds zei het bedrijf dat de collectieve overeenkomst een jaarlijkse besparing op de arbeidskosten van 1,5 miljard euro tegen 2030 mogelijk zou maken.<\/p>\n<p>Anderhalf jaar later meldt Thomas Sch\u00e4fer, CEO van het VW-merk, merkbare vooruitgang bij het terugdringen van de overcapaciteit. \u201cWe hebben alles afgerond, behalve het laatste deel, de fabriek in Osnabr\u00fcck, waar we nog steeds op zoek zijn naar een oplossing,\u201d vertelde Sch\u00e4fer aan Automobilwoche.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen realiseerde de vermindering door de productielijnen in Duitse vestigingen terug te brengen zonder fabrieken te sluiten. Alleen de Gl\u00e4serne Manufaktur Dresden heeft de autoproductie volledig stopgezet, zoals eerder gemeld, en de locatie zal nu een innovatiecampus worden.<\/p>\n<h4>Gamechanger project<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volgens Automobilwoche heeft VW de productie in de fabrieken in Zwickau en Emden teruggebracht van twee naar \u00e9\u00e9n lijn (met elk twee ploegen). In Wolfsburg heeft het bedrijf nu nog maar twee van de oorspronkelijke vier lijnen in gebruik. De vrijgekomen ruimte, zo wordt gemeld, zou ten goede kunnen komen aan het \u2018Gamechanger-project\u2019, een nieuwe productiemethode gericht op het sneller en effici\u00ebnter bouwen van modellen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volkswagen is van plan om de lancering van het nieuwe elektrische SSP-platform en de verhuizing van de Golf-productie naar Mexico te gebruiken om een nieuw productieproces te introduceren op het hoofdkantoor in Wolfsburg. Hoewel het bedrijf nog geen details over het project bekend heeft gemaakt, heeft het bevestigd dat het concept grootschalige gietmethoden zal omvatten.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dit proces, ook bekend als megacasting, vervangt talloze afzonderlijke carrosserieonderdelen door een klein aantal grote gegoten onderdelen. Tesla was pionier op dit gebied in de auto-industrie, maar sindsdien hebben verschillende autofabrikanten soortgelijke methoden toegepast, waaronder Volvo Cars voor de nieuwe Volvo EX60.<\/p>\n<h4>SSP-platform<\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Automobilwoche zegt dat het Gamechanger-project tegen het einde van het decennium in werking moet treden voor de batterij-elektrische voertuigen die in Wolfsburg op het SSP-platform worden gebouwd, namelijk de elektrische Golf en een geplande SUV-tegenhanger. Volgens de huidige naamgevingslogica zou het compacte elektrische voertuig de ID. Golf genoemd worden, net zoals de kleinere VW T-Cross de elektrische ID. Cross.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wat de tijdlijn betreft, bevestigde Sch\u00e4fer aan het Engelse tijdschrift Autocar dat VW de ID. Golf niet voor het einde van het decennium zal lanceren: \u201cWe hebben nu een fantastische line-up, we hebben geen elektrische Golf nodig in 2028. We zitten goed met wat we in ons portfolio hebben met onze voertuigen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sch\u00e4fer herhaalde ook dat de eerste voertuigen op basis van het nieuwe SSP-platform afkomstig zullen zijn van de premiummerken Audi en Porsche:  \u201cSSP, we zullen het uitrollen over de VW Group merken. We beginnen eerst met de premium merken... Het zal beginnen met Audi, dan Porsche, dan VW, en zo verder en verder.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Samenwerken met de Chinezen?<\/h4>\n<p>Ondertussen blijft de toekomst van VW's fabriek in Osnabr\u00fcck onzeker. De productie daar wordt binnenkort be\u00ebindigd en, zoals Automobilwoche meldt, \u201czijn er tot nu toe gesprekken gevoerd in alle richtingen\u201d zonder resultaat. VW's naaste Chinese partner Xpeng wordt nu ook genoemd als een potentieel ge\u00efnteresseerde partij, met naar verluidt lopende onderhandelingen over capaciteiten in Europa. Xpeng produceert zijn modellen momenteel bij contractfabrikant Magna Steyr in Oostenrijk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Financial Times citeerde Elvis Cheng, Xpeng's Managing Director voor Noordoost-Europa, als zeggende: \u201cWe zijn in gesprek met Volkswagen om te kijken of er een mogelijkheid is dat we hier in Europa een locatie kunnen vinden.\u201d  De fabriek in Osnabr\u00fcck wordt niet expliciet genoemd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrive.com\/2026\/04\/21\/vw-ceo-blume-targets-capacity-reduction-of-up-to-one-million-vehicles\/\">In april,<\/a> Oliver Blume, CEO van VW Group, zei dat de Europese fabrieken van Volkswagen nog steeds te duur en onderbenut zijn. Het bedrijf is daarom van plan om de aanzienlijke overcapaciteit in zowel China als Europa verder terug te dringen. Blume zei echter opnieuw dat Volkswagen van plan is om fabriekssluitingen in Duitsland te voorkomen door wat hij omschreef als een \u2018intelligente aanpak\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hij noemde Osnabr\u00fcck als voorbeeld: \u201cWe onderhandelen met bedrijven in de defensie-industrie die deze fabriek zouden kunnen gebruiken en de arbeidskrachten zouden kunnen behouden. Dat bedoel ik met intelligent. We moeten trajecten ontwikkelen om onze eigen overcapaciteit op een vergelijkbare manier te verminderen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het is duidelijk dat partnerschappen met Chinese bedrijven in theorie zo'n traject kunnen zijn. Stellantis denkt in dezelfde richting en is naar verluidt ook in gesprek met Xpeng over productie in onderbenutte Europese fabrieken. Het bedrijf heeft ook een joint venture met Leapmotor, die voortdurend aan het uitbreiden is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cheng vertelde de Financial Times ook dat de productielijn in Steyr de grenzen van zijn capaciteit bereikt en dat zijn bedrijf overweegt om een nieuwe Europese fabriek te bouwen. \u201cWe denken dat niet alle fabrieken kunnen voldoen aan de eisen van onze nieuwste of toekomstige producteisen,\u201d zei Cheng, eraan toevoegend dat de fabrieken van Volkswagen misschien \u201ceen beetje oud\u201d zijn.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volkswagen agreed with Germany\u2019s IG Metall union at the end of 2024 to cut domestic production capacity by more than 700,000 vehicles and has now largely completed the reduction.
