De Japanse autofabrikant Toyota heeft stilletjes zijn meest technologisch ambitieuze elektrische auto om zeep geholpen: de LF-ZC. Het sluit zich aan bij Honda, Mazda en Subaru die hun eigen beloften op het gebied van elektrificatie niet nakomen.<\/p>\n

Toen Toyota in oktober 2023 de Lexus LF-ZC onthulde op de Japan Mobility Show, leek het er even op dat 's werelds grootste autofabrikant had besloten om te stoppen met indekken. De lage elektrische sedan beloofde gigacasting-productietechnologie, geavanceerde prismatische batterijen met een twee keer zo groot bereik als conventionele EV's, een AI-gestuurd softwareplatform en een zelfrijdende assemblagelijn in Aichi. Maar nu is het nul-emissie halo model van de baan.<\/p>\n

Verkoop van EV's zakt in<\/h4>\n

De LF-ZC was Toyota's meest ambitieuze EV en zou later dit jaar op de markt komen. Het was bedoeld als een speerpunt om Toyota's streven naar 1 miljoen jaarlijkse EV-verkopen te leiden, maar in plaats daarvan komt een hernieuwde focus op grotere SUV's en de hybride aandrijflijnen die het bedrijf al drie decennia enorm winstgevend houden.<\/p>\n

De redenen zijn voorspelbaar: een wereldwijde terugval in de verkoop van EV en de afschaffing van de Amerikaanse federale subsidies. De wereldwijde verkoop van EV daalt echter niet; ACEA-gegevens tonen aan dat Het aantal BEV-registraties in de EU steeg alleen al in april met 38% j-o-j.<\/a>. Voor 's werelds grootste autofabrikant is dat cijfer ofwel een opmerkelijke ondermaatse prestatie ofwel het logische resultaat van een strategie die altijd voorrang heeft gegeven aan hybrides boven elektrische auto's op batterijen.<\/p>\n

Een Japans patroon<\/h4>\n

Toyota is voorzichtig geweest en heeft de beslissing gezien als een pauze. Een woordvoerder zei dat de gigacastingprocessen en het batterijonderzoek (inclusief solid-state) zullen worden meegenomen naar toekomstige voertuigen. Maar zonder een specifiek batterij-elektrisch product om een deadline af te dwingen, is die belofte misschien moeilijk vol te houden.<\/p>\n

Maar de annulering past ook in het Japanse patroon. Mazda heeft zijn eerste BEV naar 2029 verschoven en zijn elektrificatiebudget gehalveerd. Subaru heeft zijn eigen BEV-tijdlijn uitgesteld.
