Na hun lancering in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Noorwegen en Zwitserland vorig jaar, zal MG Motor ook zijn twee volledig elektrische IM-modellen met 800 volt architectuur introduceren in Belgi\u00eb, Frankrijk, Duitsland en Nederland. De elektrische MG IM5 sedan en MG IM6 crossover SUV staan gepland voor juli. Prijzen zijn nog niet bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n

IM Motors werd in 2020 opgericht door de Chinese bedrijven SAIC, Alibaba en Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. Twee jaar later begon de joint venture met de serieproductie van haar eerste elektrische model, waarna de eerste voertuigen op de Chinese markt kwamen. In Europa debuteerde het merk in 2024 op de (laatste) Autosalon van Gen\u00e8ve. De verkoop begon echter pas in juli 2025, aanvankelijk in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, gevolgd door Noorwegen en Zwitserland.<\/p>\n

Een jaar later bereidt het merk zich voor om nog meer Europese markten aan te boren. Vanaf juli worden de elektrische auto's van IM tegelijkertijd gelanceerd in Belgi\u00eb, Frankrijk, Duitsland en Nederland. In Europa zal SAIC IM Motors positioneren als een premium submerk onder de paraplu van MG Motor in plaats van als een zelfstandige fabrikant.<\/p>\n

\u2018Intelligentie in beweging\u2019<\/h4>\n

IM staat voor \u2018Intelligence in Motion\u2019. Onder het MG-label wil het bedrijf eersteklas elektrische voertuigen aanbieden met geavanceerde aandrijflijnen, batterijen, software en rijhulptechnologie\u00ebn.<\/p>\n

De IM5 is een batterij-elektrische sedan van 4,93 meter lang, terwijl de IM6 een elektrische SUV van 4,90 meter is. In tegenstelling tot eerdere MG-modellen zijn de IM-voertuigen gebaseerd op een 800-volt architectuur. Beide modellen bieden vermogens die vari\u00ebren van 300 tot 553 kW.<\/p>\n

De voertuigen gebruiken een 100 kWh batterij met NMC-celchemie en zullen naar verwachting een actieradius tot 655 kilometer halen in de WLTP-cyclus. Snelladen kan tot 350 kW, wat resulteert in een 10-80% acculading in 17 minuten. MG heeft nog geen gedetailleerde specificaties vrijgegeven voor de afzonderlijke varianten.<\/p>\n

Anders dan in het VK?<\/h4>\n

De specificaties voor de Britse markt laten zien dat de actieradius en de lay-out van de aandrijflijn aanzienlijk kunnen verschillen per model en variant. MG geeft daar een WLTP-bereik tot 710 kilometer voor de IM5 en tot 625 kilometer voor de IM6.<\/p>\n

Voor de IM6 gebruikt de 300 kW-versie achterwielaandrijving, terwijl het 553 kW-model vierwielaandrijving heeft. Verwacht wordt echter dat MG Motor Deutschland in Duitsland alleen vierwielaangedreven varianten van de IM5 zal aanbieden, mits de 100 kWh-versies waarnaar in de Duitse aankondiging wordt verwezen de enige optie blijven. Welke varianten en actieradiuscijfers MG uiteindelijk in de EU zal introduceren, blijft onduidelijk.<\/p>\n

In het Verenigd Koninkrijk biedt MG de IM5 ook aan met een 217 kW aandrijflijn met achterwielaandrijving en een 75 kWh LFP-batterij. Deze variant wordt niet genoemd in de huidige EU-aankondiging. MG heeft tot nu toe uitsluitend verwezen naar een 100 kWh batterij met NMC-celchemie. Of er nog meer batterij- of aandrijflijnvarianten zullen volgen, valt nog te bezien.<\/p>\n

Meer premie<\/h4>\n

Onder de extra technische kenmerken benadrukt MG Motor achterwielbesturing voor de vierwielaangedreven varianten. In de MG IM5 verkleint dit de draaicirkel tot 9,98 meter. \u201cGeavanceerde rijhulpsystemen en intelligente voertuigsoftware tillen comfort, veiligheid en connectiviteit naar een nieuw niveau\u201d, aldus het bedrijf.<\/p>\n

MG wijst ook op een reeks interieurkenmerken, waaronder een geventileerde, in 12 richtingen elektrisch verstelbare bestuurdersstoel met geheugenfunctie, een in 6 richtingen elektrisch verstelbare passagiersstoel, een 26,3-inch display, een draadloze lader van 50 watt en een audiosysteem met 20 luidsprekers.<\/p>\n

Met IM breidt MG zijn Europese portfolio uit met premium elektrische modellen. De IM5 en IM6 zullen zich meer richten op laadprestaties, software, rijhulpsystemen en comfort dan de bestaande elektrische voertuigen van MG in Europa. De prijs zal echter ook een doorslaggevende factor zijn: MG is van plan om de prijzen en de exacte variantenstructuur op een later tijdstip bekend te maken. De twee modellen zullen deze zomer effectief in de showrooms van de betrokken landen worden gelanceerd.<\/p>\n
