Walloni\u00eb en Brussel lopen achter op Vlaanderen wat betreft het woon-werkverkeer met de fiets. Natuurlijk spelen het terrein en de drukke stedelijke omgeving van de hoofdstad hierin een rol.<\/p>\n
Maar volgens Avello, een belangenorganisatie voor fietsers in Waalse en Brusselse gemeenten, zijn Walloni\u00eb en Brussel ook structureel de minst fietsvriendelijke regio's, en is het precies het gebrek aan veilige infrastructuur dat mensen er vaak van weerhoudt om met de fiets naar het werk te gaan.<\/p>\n
Laten we eens naar de cijfers kijken. Slechts 3% van de werknemers in Walloni\u00eb pendelt met de fiets naar het werk. In Brussel is dat 9% en in Vlaanderen 17%. Volgens Avello - noem het het Franse equivalent van de Vlaamse Fietsersbond - zijn deze aanzienlijke regionale verschillen te wijten aan het feit dat Vlaanderen een dicht en fietsvriendelijk netwerk van fietspaden heeft, terwijl Walloni\u00eb worstelt om zijn achterstand in te halen en in Brussel is tot nu toe slechts 31% van het geplande fietsnetwerk voltooid.<\/p>\n
En juist dit gebrek aan veilige fietspaden en de slechte staat van het wegdek weerhoudt werknemers ervan om met de fiets naar het werk te gaan, zegt Avello. Toch worden er maatregelen genomen om het fietsen onder werknemers aan te moedigen, zoals het invoeren van een fietsvergoeding van \u20ac0,37\/km of het aanzienlijk uitbreiden van speciale fietsparkeerplaatsen.<\/p>\n
Om het woon-werkverkeer met de fiets verder aan te moedigen, steunt Avello \u201cI cycle to work\u201d, een jaarlijks evenement georganiseerd door Cyclis Bike Lease, een Belgisch bedrijf gespecialiseerd in fietsverhuur voor werknemers.<\/p>\n
Het doel is dat collega's vandaag een andere manier ontdekken om samen te pendelen - het is Wereldfietsdag - en het initiatief is geen wedstrijd maar een ranglijst die bedrijven uitlicht aan de hand van het aantal gefietste kilometers. Zodra je je registreert via de website, voer je het aantal kilometers van je woon-werkverkeer in en voeg je je werkgever toe.<\/p>\n
Op dit moment hebben al meer dan 7.500 fietsers en 2.500 teams zich ingeschreven voor het evenement van vandaag. Het initiatief zamelt ook geld in voor twee goede doelen: \u2018Een Fiets voor Iedereen\u2019 van de Vlaamse Fietsersbond, die lokale initiatieven steunt om mensen te helpen met fietsen te beginnen of opnieuw te beginnen, en \u2018V\u00e9lo Solidaire\u2019, een Brussels project dat beginnende fietsers helpt veilig de weg op te gaan in en rond de hoofdstad.<\/p>\n
Nog iets: volgens Avello steeg het aantal fietsers in Brussel in de eerste helft van 2026 met 15% ten opzichte van het jaar ervoor, terwijl dat cijfer in Walloni\u00eb stagneerde.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
